I started this blog with one daughter, kept it up with the other, to spend time together doing something we enjoyed.
However, things change and people evolve. My daughters are older, busier, and not as interested in writing.
From now on this blog will be mostly mom with occasional contributions from my daughters and maybe even my husband.
Nothing else will change. We'll still focus on sharing fun places to go, fun things to do, and more, and we would  still love to hear your views too

3) Conversations With My Divorce Attorney

What if love is not enough? Conversations with My Divorce Attorney is a fast-paced 90-minute 2-hander about a heartbroken NYC playwright who strikes up a cross-country connection with her LA Divorce Attorney at the top of his game. A brutally funny dramatic comedy about love, loss and never letting go.

4) Dali's Dream

Salvador Dali worshiped the famous psychoanalyst – Doctor Sigmund Freud, ardently wished to meet him and discuss his own complexes as well as paranoia. One such meeting had occurred, but the exhausting imaginary conversations with Doctor Freud continued.

Once, in a dream, Dali visits a sanitarium, where he becomes witness to the sessions of psychoanalysis held by Doctor Freud and, eventually, the painter finds himself on the doctor’s couch!  So, who is he – a genius or a paranoiac? The surrealistic fog which envelops the figure of Dali starts to dissipate…

5) Faster

The pace of change is messing with our heads, and to psychotherapist, improviser and storyteller Jude Treder-Wolff, comedy is part of the cure. Through true stories about trying to understand her partner’s opposite approach to change, she frames a narrative about the impact of constant uncertainty as the pace of change picks up speed and transforms the world faster - and more often - than our brains are built to process. Weaving the personal with the universal, FASTER is about how the pace of change impacts mental health and what love has to do with expanding into a future that will definitely be improvised.

6) The Human Dream Project

The Human Dream Project is an irreverent, moving multimedia performance project that collects recordings of people candidly describing their dreams and illustrates these recordings onstage with vivid puppetry performance and live music. Admiral Grey's technicolor handmade puppets and costumes and Chad Raines' rich textural foley and music manifest these dreams onstage, alongside in the dexterous abilities of the puppeteers/performers of the Snake In The Boot Collective. Cross the liminal curtain and navigate the odd, sometimes hilarious, sometimes despairing world of dreams that all humans experience as they sleep. The dreams are recorded via The Human Dream Project Dream Hotline (1-845-750-8891), a 24-hour hotline run by artist Admiral Grey. The hotline is becoming an international archive of human dreams from our time.

8) Lolo's Boyfriend Show

Lolo lands a dream-come-true European tour with her punk cabaret show. But when it gets canceled after just a few weeks, she’s forced to pack up her red platform boots and move back to her mom’s house in suburbia. Lolo’s Psychic Therapist told her she’d be famous and happily married by now. Instead, she’s stuck in her childhood bedroom, taking a wild and traumatic trip through boyfriends past. From The Yogi to The Phantom Texter to The S&M Enthusiast, Lolo’s penchant for attracting the bizarre really cuts her up. As she grapples with her ghosts, and considers abandoning everything for a British Beau, Lolo has a radical realization: maybe…just maybe…she has a different path to happiness in this world…

9) The Lydian Gale Parr

The Lydian Gale Parr is a surreal and poetic chamber oratorio with ballet: a child emissary sent from a city under siege to deliver a letter to the attacking general. But the emissary cannot find him; at every place of arrival, the general has just left. Traveling through space and time, the emissary begins to shapeshift, to manifest freely: as boy, as girl, as man, as woman, as the Lydian Gale Parr, who journeys from ancient cities to cargo ships on an infinite errand to ask for an end to violence. They slip in and out of disparate webs of belonging yet hold fast to their quest: a ghost child of war.

11) The Poisoner

A universal tale, The Poisoner is an unraveling of the deception, abuse of power, and utter negligence of early 2000’s Midwestern water politics. In a neo-noir thriller driven by a determined journalist who returns to his hometown and uncovers more than he bargained for, The Poisoner invites you to question, are we ever safe?

12) Stereophonic

Stereophonic mines the agony and the ecstasy of creation as it zooms in on a music studio in 1976. Here, an up-and-coming rock band recording a new album finds itself suddenly on the cusp of superstardom. The ensuing pressures could spark their breakup — or their breakthrough. In Stereophonic, Adjmi invites the audience to immerse themselves—with fly-on-the-wall intimacy—in the powder keg process of a band on the brink of blowing up.

Every thousand years, all of the Great Birds of the world gather to perform a secret, sacred ritual that keeps the music of the spheres--and all life with it--humming smoothly. But this year something is wrong...and a tiny unlikely hero is the only hope of saving everything.

Think of it as Faerie Queen Story Hour. Written as part of her Enchanted Islands project, Melody Bates' original fairy tale, All the Birds of the World, brings Phoenix, Roc, Thunderbird, Hugin and Muninn, and many more to vibrant life in a lyrical, high-spirited tale of magic and heroic adventure. This virtuoso feat of live storytelling features an incredible couture costume created by Jennifer Paar, in an all-new staging that includes aerial design by 5th Wall Studio. Directed by Nicki Miller, with rigging coordinator Benjamin E. 26) NEW YORK GILBERT & SULLIVAN PLAYERS

Announces Casting of

The Sorcerer & Trial By Jury

April 6-7, 2024

New York Gilbert & Sullivan Players (NYGASP) concludes its 49th season with a double bill of Gilbert & Sullivan’s first two extant collaborations, The Sorcerer and Trial By Jury. The repertory company will present three performances at New York’s Kaye Playhouse at Hunter College (68th Street between Park and Lexington Avenues) on Saturday, April 6th and Sunday, April 7th.

Originally billed as a “Dramatic Cantata, Trial By Jury was written as a one-act afterpiece for Offenbach’s La Perichole. Having been trained as an attorney, it is not surprising that W.S. Gilbert would aim some of his first satirical jabs at the law in this over the top send up of the legal system. Edwin, tiring of his sweetheart Angelina, falls in love with another and Angelina accordingly hauls him into court for breech of promise.  At the rise of the curtain, the Usher, while enjoining impartiality on the jurymen, shows a definite partiality himself for the fair Plaintiff.  Edwin explains that he simply happened to fall in love with another girl.  Though both Jury and Judge indicate that they have had similar episodes in their own pasts, they have little sympathy for him. Finally, the Judge, disgusted at the objections and eager to get away, marries Angelina himself. Trial By Jury was last produced by NYGASP in 2011.

Set in a quaint English village, The Sorcerer is the story of Alexis, a young military officer who purchases a love-at-first-sight potion from a respectable and old-established Family Sorcerer. Of course, this potion is compounded on the strictest of moral principles so as to have no effect on married persons. The power of love is tested when, after drinking tea spiked with the potion, the whole village finds itself engaged in hilarious mismatches – including the sorcerer himself! Even the well meaning, but misguided, Alexis is unhappy with this situation, so the sorcerer agrees to make a personal sacrifice in order to set things back the way they were - disappearing magically to the delight of all. Combining Gilbert's favorite theme of class distinction with magical and theatrical illusions, the production features Sullivan's lilting melodies, glorious harmonies, and just the right touch of pastoral sentiment to convey the essence of Gilbert's light-hearted satire. The New York Times said this production “packs ample charms, including a felicitous score that charms a modern audience!” NYGASP last produced the work in 2012.

Performance schedule is as follows:

Saturday, April 6th at 2:00pm* & 7:30pm

*Family Overture: Musical introduction and plot summary made entertaining for the entire family (12:45 in theatre prior to the Saturday afternoon performance)

Sunday, April 7th at 3:00pm

34) Stefanie Nelson Dancegroup and David Shenk

present

the Moving Memory Project

a festival devoted to memory and forgetting

what we share

featuring an interactive audience gameshow ‘what we share’,

the latest iteration of Nelson’s in-process performance piece Dea v.5.2,

and post-performance discussion led by best-selling author, David Shenk

Friday, April 5 at 8pm at

Broadway Presbyterian Church

Free Admission, RSVP required

Stefanie Nelson Dancegroup and David Shenk present The Moving Memory Projectwhat we share on Friday, April 5th at 8pm at Broadway Presbyterian Church, 601 W. 114th Street New York, NYC.

RSVP HERE.

Launched in 2019, The Moving Memory Project embodies its founders’ vision of bringing together artists, caregivers, and seniors to create a community of care surrounding issues connected to memory loss and destigmatizing the diagnosis of dementia, with the goal of raising awareness, to increase funding, until a cure is found. “Works like this can help the world think and talk about Alzheimer's in important new ways” says co-producer David Shenk, whose writings on Alzheimer's and dementia garnered him international acclaim as an authority on the subject.

PROGRAM DETAILS

The evening begins with an interactive game designed to bring people together through unexpected discoveries about what they have in common, followed by a performance of Nelson’s latest iteration of Dea, a 30-minute extended version of the piece recently presented on Feb. 9 at the previous Moving Memory Project event. The evening culminates with a post-performance discussion led by David Shenk who will discuss exciting breakthroughs in Alzheimer’s related research.

Dea, performed by Paige Doku; soundtrack by composers Borut Krzisnik and Katie Jenkins; light design by Lauren Parrish, is inspired by the play Nostra Dea (Our Goddess), written by Massimo Bontempelli in 1925. The protagonist is memoryless. Multiple identities, traits, and appearances meet on this constantly renewed blank slate. Without any sense of self or past, Dea bridges the gap between human and other, questioning our sense of self and others with evolving identities and renewed behaviors. Previous iterations of Dea in solo, trio, and larger groups have been presented at the Festival Quartiers Danses in MontrĂ©al, Motore 592 in Lucca, Indiana University, and Les Champs MĂ©lisey in Burgundy. This research will culminate into an evening length piece to premiere in 2025 in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the play.
