I started this blog with one daughter, kept it up with the other, to spend time together doing something we enjoyed.
However, things change and people evolve. My daughters are older, busier, and not as interested in writing.
From now on this blog will be mostly mom with occasional contributions from my daughters and maybe even my husband.
Nothing else will change. We'll still focus on sharing fun places to go, fun things to do, and more, and we would  still love to hear your views too

Theater Thursday - How to Steal an Election

We were given complimentary tickets to How to Steal an Election for review purposes. Any and all opinions expressed are our own.

What: How to Steal an Election

Where: Theater at St. Jean's
             150 E. 67th St.
             New York, NY

Who: Recommended for Ages 13 and Up

When: Through September 3, 2023

Although it was created in 1968, the musical, How to Steal an Election, is extremely relevant and timely and not just because of the title. This musical takes a harsh look at politics but does so in a fun way through a series of extremely lively and energetic song and dance numbers which include campaign slogans and more. There is a bit of story to the musical, but not much really.

The musical numbers and the cast that performs them make this a show worth seeing. The singing voices are lovely, and the dancing is incredible. The best way to enjoy this show is not to concentrate on politics and how little things have changed but just think about the opportunity to see a group of talented performers strutting their stuff.

And that's our view. For more about How to Steal an Election or other upcoming shows in York Theater's Musicals in Mufti series, visit www.tdf.org/shows/19835/musicals-in-mufti-fall-2023

Tips for Tuesday- Books: The Breakaway & Secrets Never Die & Misc.: Technics AZ40 True Wireless Digital Wireless Stereo Earphones

Books: The Breakaway & Secrets Never Die

Today we are recommending The Breakway by Jennifer Weiner. Working gig jobs instead of establishing a career and not sure she's happy in her relationship with the childhood sweetheart she met at Fat Camp, Abby is at a crossroads in her life. Always happiest riding her bike, she takes a job leading a group on a bike trip from NYC to Niagara Falls. However, it turns out to be much more than she bargained for when both Sebastian, the one-night stand, she can't forget, and her mother, a woman who could never accept Abby's size and has always pushed her to lose weight, join the trip.

This is a really lovely story full of lots of found family. The relationships formed between the people in the group and the way they grow to care about each other and be there for each other is really beautiful. The way Abby's relationships with Sebastian and her mother grow and change is very touching as well.

As a plus-size woman who is fairly comfortable with her size, Abby is a very admirable character. Her moments of doubt only make her that much more relatable. At first, Sebastian seems like a typical cad. When he becomes the one who gets shamed and becomes the subject of harsh public scrutiny, it is a unique and exciting twist.  However, his character does grow and change a lot over the course of the book which is also nice to see. All in all, it's another winner from Weiner.

Today we are recommending Secrets Never Die by Vincent Ralph. Every Halloween, Sam and his friends go to an abandoned hut they call the Dark Place and hold a funeral for their deepest darkest secrets. However, now someone has discovered their secrets and is blackmailing them.

This story is both chilling and thrilling like a cross between a horror movie and a  crime mystery. It is extremely compelling and hooks you in immediately and doesn't let go. The characters are interesting and the story is unique and satisfyingly unpredictable. It is quite an exciting ride that will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very end.

Misc.: Technics AZ40 True Wireless Digital Wireless Stereo Earphones

Today we are recommending Technics AZ40 True Wireless Digital Wireless Stereo Earphones. At first, you may be overwhelmed by the sheer volume of instructions that accompany these earbuds. However, they are easy to connect easy to use, and work well. However, if you are looking for a less expensive alternative than Airpods. This brand is only slightly cheaper.

And that's our view. Tune in tomorrow for Where-To-Go Wednesday.

Sharks also explores the conservation issues facing sharks today, including overfishing and habitat destruction, demonstrating that while these amazing animals pose few threats to people, we represent a serious danger to them.

16) PHILADELPHIA ZOO ANNOUNCES ARRIVAL OF TWO ORPHANED PUMA CUB SIBLINGS RESCUED FROM WASHINGTON STATE

Philadelphia Zoo announces the arrival of two orphaned puma cubs that will now call America's first Zoo their new permanent home. The cubs, one male and one female, are now under Zoo care and were rescued in Kalama, Washington this past summer. Prior to their arrival in Philadelphia, they were cared for by Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife experts before being flown across the country to the Zoo. The cubs are currently living behind-the-scenes inside the Zoo’s on-site Animal Hospital as they complete their quarantine period before moving to Big Cat Falls. They will NOT be on exhibit or visible to the public until later this summer or early fall. Philadelphia Zoo was chosen as the new, permanent home for the cubs because of the Zoo's expertise in caring for this species. Look for more information coming about their public debut coming in the next few week

The Zoo staff aptly named the cubs Elbroch and Olympia. The male is named Elbroch (pronounced el-brock) in honor of Mark Elbroch who is the leading puma researcher for Panthera, a conservation organization devoted to the protection of the world’s 40 species of wild cats. The female is named Olympia after the state capital of Washington where the cubs were rescued. You can tell the two apart by their size. Elbroch is a little bit bigger than his sister Olympia. He's confident and not afraid to explore and Olympia follows along, looking to her brother for reassurance.
