I started this blog with one daughter, kept it up with the other, to spend time together doing something we enjoyed.
However, things change and people evolve. My daughters are older, busier, and not as interested in writing.
From now on this blog will be mostly mom with occasional contributions from my daughters and maybe even my husband.
Nothing else will change. We'll still focus on sharing fun places to go, fun things to do, and more, and we would  still love to hear your views too

Where-To-Go-Wednesday - The National Lighthouse Museum

We were given complimentary tickets to the National Lighthouse Museum for review purposes. Any and all opinions expressed here are our own.

What: The National Lighthouse Museum

Where: The Promenade at Lighthouse Point
             Staten Island, NY

Who: All ages

Me - The National Lighthouse Museum had a lot of miniature lighthouses from all over the world. They were fun to look at. There was even one we have actually been to. I did not know that the Statue of Liberty is considered a lighthouse. I would like to visit more lighthouses.

There was also information about lighthouse keepers at the museum. There were even women lighthouse keepers. We watched a video about lighthouses. There were different examples of lighthouse lights. It was a small but fascinating museum.

Mom - The National Lighthouse Museum is located not far from the St. George Ferry Terminal in Staten Island in what used to be the U.S Lighthouse Services Depot which housed supplies for various lighthouses. Although the museum currently only uses a small portion of the site, its mission is to restore and fully develop it. Princess Anne of England, who is particularly interested in lighthouses, is a patron of the museum.

The centerpiece of the museum is a display of numerous miniatures of lighthouses located throughout the United States and some from around the world as well. They are arranged alphabetically by state so you can easily find your own state if you are so inclined, Lighthouses in the collection include the Pharos of Alexandria Lighthouse, the Titanic Memorial Lighthouse, the Sandy Hook Lighthouse, and many more.

There is also a timeline tracing the history of lighthouses as well as lighthouse equipment and other things on display including several examples of different illuminants or light sources used in lighthouses. You can also learn things about specific lighthouse keepers including female lighthouse keepers Katie Walker and Ida Lewis. On the whole, it is an interesting and unique museum.

And that's our view. For more about The National Lighthouse Museum, visit lighthousemuseum.org.

Tune in tomorrow for Theater Thursday.
