Me - Our River Lady Cruise was a lot of fun. There were a lot of different notable sites we passed as we sailed along Tom's River. You could buy a map in advance to tell you about the sites. However, we were also told little about each place as we passed it. Plus, we were told which side of the ship you could see each site on.
The tour was interesting. I was especially fascinated by the fact that we passed the house where the exterior shots for the Amityville horror movie were shot. Although the actual house is in Long Island, the outside of this house looks very similar. I have never really seen the film because I am not really a fan of horror. However, I find the backstory of the movie intriguing, and I am interested in knowing more about so it was exciting to see the house used in the film.
We passed a lot of really nice-looking houses as we sailed along. A lot of them were quite big and very expensive looking. My family definitely couldn't afford houses like that, but I enjoyed looking at them. We also passed a lot of other boats. They were mostly colorful little sailboats.
Our cruise included lunch. We picked our meals when we ordered our tickets. There were several different entrees available, but everyone got bread and salad. Mom and I had Penne Vodka. It was delicious, and the portions were really big. We both had to bring some home because it was way too much to eat in one sitting. Luckily, take-home boxes were available.
All in all, it was quite an enjoyable way to spend a few hours.
Mom - The River Lady is a replica paddlewheel riverboat that sails along the Tom's River and Barnegat Bay. Several different cruises are available on the boat from May through October. They include lunch, and dinner cruises as well as just general sightseeing cruises. One of them is sure to fit your budget and your schedule.
The tour we attended was the Extended Lunch Cruise. The price of this tour includes both the cruise and a delicious midday meal. Meals are chosen in advance from several different alternative offerings when you sign up for your cruise. Our choices included a fish dish and a pasta meal. All meals also include salad, bread, and dessert. The food was quite tasty and the portions were quite large. Take-home containers are available upon request in case you cannot finish your meal and would like to take home your leftovers.
On your cruise, you will have the opportunity to view and learn about various points of interest along the way. They include Huddy Park, Money Island, Good Luck Point, and even the home where the Amityville Horror movie was filmed and more. Souvenir Maps are available for purchase in advance so you can follow along as you sail and/or read more about the locations you see during or after your cruise.
All in all, a River Lady Cruise is nice, relaxing, informative, and fun.
