I started this blog with one daughter, kept it up with the other, to spend time together doing something we enjoyed.
However, things change and people evolve. My daughters are older, busier, and not as interested in writing.
From now on this blog will be mostly mom with occasional contributions from my daughters and maybe even my husband.
Nothing else will change. We'll still focus on sharing fun places to go, fun things to do, and more, and we would  still love to hear your views too

Tips for Tuesday - Books: The Vet at Noah's Ark & Misc.: Just Pure Foods Tomato Chips

We may have been given complimentary copies and/or access for review purposes to any products, and/or visual or audio media mentioned below. Any and all opinions expressed here are our own.

Books: The Vet at Noah's Ark

Today we are recommending The Vet at Noah's Ark by Dr. Doug Mader. This is the incredibly fascinating true story of an inner city veterinarian who not only had to contend with the animals in his care and the personal and professional wellbeing of his human staff but also with the dangers and civil unrest in the city around him including fires, gang violence and even the riots caused by the aftermath of the Rodney King verdict.

If you are an animal lover, this book will definitely stir up all your emotions. It will make you smile,  and it will make you cry in equal measure. At times, tt will fill you with anger. At times, it will touch your heart, and fill you with happiness. At times, it willeven make you laugh.

If you are particularly sensitive, there definitely will be sections of this book that will trigger you, and  we highly recommend that you skip the bottom of page 216 through page 219 although there will probably be other parts of the book that will be triggering as well that section is definitely the worst of it. All in all, however, this is a quite captivating book full of  extremely vivid depicitions of wide array of unique characters of both the human and animal variety that is definitely worth reading.

Misc.: Just Pure Foods Tomato Chips

Today we are talking about Just Pure Foods Tomato Chips. These healthy snacks are vegan, nut-free, gluten-free, plant based and keto-friendly. They are made from vegetables and whole foods and are neither baked nor friend but dried at a low temperature so they don't lose all the healthy enzymes and nutrients during the preparation process. Plus, they are only 50 calories per bag.

Just Pure Foods Tomato Chips come in three varieties: cheese, barbeque and jalapeno. For more information or to make a purchase, visit www.amazon.com/dp/B0B9ZZW52D?ref_=cm_sw_r_cp_ud_dp_8FNQ29NHBTSM3WD7HQJX

More Theater Monday: EmpathitRaX

We were given complimentary tickets to EmpathitRaX for review purposes. Any and all opinions expressed here are our own.

What: Empathitrax

Where:  Suzanne Roberts Theatre
              480 S. Broad Street
               Philadelphia, PA

Who: Recommended for Ages 17 and Up Due to Language and Subject Matter

When: Through March 5, 2023

EmpathitRaX imagines a world where there is a  pill you can take that lets you feel someone else emotions in the way that they experience them. A young couple commences a course of treatment with the drug to try and repair their damaged relationship. They are not even given names, a city, or any other identifying information (the only personal thing we know about them is their dog's name) so they could be any couple anywhere at any time. This makes the audience feel as emotionally distanced from the couple as they are from each other.

Since a lot of what happens in this show happens internally, obviously, we cannot feel how another person experiences their emotions especially when those emotions are only being acted in a play, it takes a couple of strong performances to really sell the idea that this can and is happening. Makoto Hirano as the male half of the couple and Claire Ine Richards as the female do a nice job of it. Still, it is all so visceral that it is hard to really imagine. However, what is clear is that a pill isn't going to clear up what's wrong with this couple's relationship and may even make things worse (those dreaded side effects). If they want their relationship to work, they are going to have to work at it, and that is an important lesson for us all.

And that's our view. For more about EmpiathirtRaX or to purchase tickets, visit philadelphiatheatrecompany.org

Tune in tomorrow for Tips for Tuesday.

Bob Fosse’s DANCIN’ is Fosse’s full-throated, full-bodied celebration of dancers and dancing. Utterly reimagined for the 21st century, this DANCIN’ brims with a level of warmth, emotion, and color seldom seen in modern interpretations of Fosse’s influential style and features some of his most inventive and rarely performed choreography. With New York’s hottest cast performing 120 minutes of wall-to-wall dance, DANCIN’ delivers the quintessential Broadway experience for Fosse fans and first timers alike.

2) brainsmash

After Maisie gets hit by a car, a traumatic brain injury turns her life upside down. Suddenly computer screens hurt to look at, a haun

ting reptile taunts, and why did no one ever tell her that speech-to-text would be this hard?

Dog Man follows the chronicles of a canine superhero who loves to fight crime and chew on the furniture. But while trying his best to be a good boy, can he save the city from Flippy the cyborg fish and his army of Beasty Buildings? Can he catch Petey, the world’s most evil cat, who has cloned himself to exact revenge on the doggy do-gooder? And will George and Harold finish their show before lunchtime?? Find out in this epic musical adventure featuring the hilarity and heart of beloved characters from Dav Pilkey, the award-winning and worldwide bestselling author and illustrator of  Captain Underpants  and  Cat Kid Comic Club

New World Stages (350 West 50th St.)
3/4 - 4/30
Opening Night 3/13

For more information or to purchase tickets, visit  DogManTheMusical.com

4) Sleeper

The play follows Sleeper, a millennial archetype of an every-person, who, from a self-imposed, bedridden exile ponders the imperative of a lived existence. Why wake up? What, or who, do we rise for? Throughout what should be a quick nap, Sleeper encounters a shape-shifting cast of characters, both real and imagined, as they grapple with burnout and self-doubt. Will our Sleeper ever escape (or accept) their somnolence? Can they draw back the curtains and let in the light? Ultimately, the key to Sleeper’s liberation hinges on a visit from their mother and a return to their Indigenous Chickasaw roots, where dreams have the power to unlock the relationship between parent and child, descendant and ancestor, body and earth. sleeper is a manifesto and a circus, a heartfelt appeal to the burnout generation to fall fully, wholeheartedly, and headfirst into sleep.

The Tank’s 56 Seat Theater (312 West 36th St.)
3/2 - 3/26

For more information or to purchase tickets, visit thetanknyc.org/sleeper

5) Truckers

Mayor, Lollipop and Freckles don’t know when they’ll leave a truck stop with their unusual cargo, or where they’ll be directed to take it next, but what the DO know is that things are really starting to get weird tonight. Between unexpected guests, a strange rest stop clerk, and otherworldly energies, the less questions they ask the better. Mariana Carreño’s darkly humorous new play places madcap characters in a situation more bizarre than they are.

INTAR Theater (500 West 52nd St., 4th Fl.)
