I started this blog with one daughter, kept it up with the other, to spend time together doing something we enjoyed.
However, things change and people evolve. My daughters are older, busier, and not as interested in writing.
From now on this blog will be mostly mom with occasional contributions from my daughters and maybe even my husband.
Nothing else will change. We'll still focus on sharing fun places to go, fun things to do, and more, and we would  still love to hear your views too

1) Rock of Ages

Did someone say “1980’s”?!?! ROCK OF AGES takes you back to the time of big bands with big egos playing big guitar solos and sporting even bigger hair! This five-time Tony Award-nominated Broadway hit will transport you back to a simpler time – 1987! Featuring 80’s rock hits like “We Built This City”, “We’re Not Gonna Take It”, “Here I Go Again,” “Hit Me With Your Best Shot”, “Sister Christian”, “Every Rose Has Its Thorn”, and “Don’t Stop Believin”, ROCK OF AGES is a non-stop party that will have you rock and rollin’ all night long!! (or at least until the curtain goes down…). ROCK OF AGES takes place on Hollywood’s Sunset Strip and follows Stacee Jaxx, aspiring rock star Drew, and small-town girl Sherrie, as developers sweep into town with plans to turn the fabled Strip into just another capitalist strip mall. Can Drew, Sherrie and the gang save the strip (and themselves) before it's too late? Only the music of hit bands Styx, Journey, Bon Jovi, Whitesnake, REO Speedwagon, Pat Benatar, Twisted Sister (and more) hold the answer! You DON’T want to miss ROCK OF AGES at ACT of CT! It’s gonna be “totally tubular dude”! (PG-13)

36 Old Quarry Rd., Ridgefield, NJ

2) Clean Slate

From the minds of Kate Brennan and David Lee White comes Clean Slate, a new musical that tells the story of a group of disaffected high school students who are sent to a rehabilitation camp. The show is the second installment in Brennan and White’s Infinity Trilogy and makes its world premiere this winter in a co-production with Rider University and Passage Theatre Company. While at Camp Clean Slate, the campers notice that they may, or may not, be haunted by the souls of former campers who have gone missing. A story of radical empathy, the piece explores the need to remember who we used to be in order to move forward.

KISSING THE FLOOR is a radical retelling of the Antigone myth. Set in Depression Era America, the play investigates the relationships among a set of siblings, all survivors of their family’s agonized, infamous legacy. Annie and her disturbed and disturbing brother, Paul, are knotted together by fate and a tortured love as their sister Izzy and their brother Eddie look on with dismay and all too much understanding. Can one extricate oneself from a terrible past? What do we owe those who share our blood, however tainted?

5) Mama I Want to Sing

In 1983, Vy Higginsen, alongside husband Ken Wydro co-wrote, produced, and directed Mama, I Want to Sing!, a musical based on the life of Vy’s sister, Doris Troy, and her dream of becoming a singer. Doris made her mark on African-American music as a soul and R&B singer-songwriter throughout the 60's and 70's. Vy and Doris's father was a Pentecostal minister, and Doris began her musical journey singing in the choir at his church. Despite her parents' disapproval, Doris competed in and won amateur night at the Apollo Theater, jumpstarting her career.

THE “AMERICAN IDOL OF ACTING”

Battle Acts Is a Live Audience Acting Competition to Find New York City’s Greatest Actor

This Month’s Industry Judges

Stephen McKinley Henderson, Jeffrey Dreisbach, Joel Waggoner and Ayanna Prescod

New York’s only acting competition, Battle Acts, will continue at the Chelsea Musical Hall on Monday, February 20, 2023; doors open at 7 PM and the battle begins at 8 PM. Audience and performer tickets can be purchased by visiting www.BattleActsLive.com.

Battle Acts features actors battling it out in front of a live audience and top entertainment industry professionals. This month’s industry professionals include the 2023 Lortel Lifetime Achievement Award winner Stephen McKinley Henderson (currently starring on Broadway in the Pulitzer Prize-winning Between Riverside and Crazy), Jeffrey Dreisbach (Casting partner at McCorkle Casting), and Joel Waggoner (Broadway’s  School of Rock, Be More Chill) and Ayanna Prescod (freelance journalist, Broadway producer and Social Media Manager) joined by DJ Keith Shocklee (Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s Public Enemy).

Hosted by the Galinsky Brothers, whose long-running Manhattan Monologue Slam became a staple of the New York City acting community and was touted by the New York Times as “performers looking for that fabled big break are squaring off against one another in a flurry of monologues, with industry professionals sitting as judges,” Battle Acts brings together stage and film actors who go head-to-head in front of celebrity and industry insiders in an evening of raucous, fast-paced performances to be crowned the “Battle Acts Champ.” Produced by a team of industry vets whose credits include five TONY Awards, Executive Producer of the International Emmy Awards, Producer of multiple HBO Max Comedy Specials, and producer/director of over 50 TED talks. Battle Acts will give actors an opportunity to showcase their work in front of some of the top decision makers in the business and a live audience.

ACT ONE: The Championship Set

The team behind Battle Acts searches far and wide through multiple casting calls to find six of the best stage and on-screen talent to compete against each other by performing a two-and-a-half-minute monologue in front of a panel of judges consisting of Hollywood and Broadway managers, agents, celebrities, casting producers, and directors to find that month’s “Battle Acts Champ.” The “Champ” wins a cash prize and will return the following month to defend their title against a new set of actors.

Past judges of the Manhattan Monologue Slam included: James Gunn, Producer, “Guardians of the Galaxy”; Sarah Silverman, Actor, "The Sarah Silverman Program”; Michael K. Williams, Actor, “The Wire”; Tariq Trotter, Emcee, "The Roots”, “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon."

ACT TWO: The 30-second Set

This is where 15 “fresh faces” each perform for 30 seconds, judged by the live audience, and compete for a chance to battle the big dogs in next month’s Championship Set, as well as a cash prize.

The 2023 finale of Battle Acts is a year-end Championship show where one actor will be crowned the “Ultimate Battle Acts Champion” giving them the year-long bragging rights as the Best Actor in New York City.

Tickets $35-$45, Choose What You Pay

Ahead of its world premiere, go behind the scenes of this epic and viciously funny new musical by Michael R. Jackson, the Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize–winning creator of A Strange Loop. In White Girl in Danger—a fever dream mashup of classic daytime and primetime soap operas, Lifetime movies, and red-hot melodrama—the citizens of the soap opera town Allwhite face high-stakes drama and intrigue all the days of their lives. Meanwhile Keesha Gibbs and the other Blackgrounds have been relegated to backburner stories of slavery and police violence for all of theirs. But Keesha is determined to step out of the Blackground and into the center of Allwhite’s juiciest stories. Can Keesha handle the Allwhite attention—especially from the Allwhite Killer on the loose? What role do the other Blackgrounds play in Keesha’s Allwhite schemes? And just whose story is this anyway? Members of the creative team discuss the show and their creative process. Cast members perform highlights before previews begin March 15 at Second Stage’s Tony Kiser Theater

White Girl in Danger was originally developed by Vineyard Theatre and will be co-produced by Vineyard Theatre and Second Stage Theater this spring.
