I started this blog with one daughter, kept it up with the other, to spend time together doing something we enjoyed.
However, things change and people evolve. My daughters are older, busier, and not as interested in writing.
From now on this blog will be mostly mom with occasional contributions from my daughters and maybe even my husband.
Nothing else will change. We'll still focus on sharing fun places to go, fun things to do, and more, and we would  still love to hear your views too

Theater Thursday - Cornelia Street

What: Cornelia Street

Where: Atlantic Stage 2 330 W. 16th St. New York, NY

Who: Recommended for Ages 12 and Up

When: Through March 5, 2022

There is a cafe on Cornelia Street that is destined to be closed but Jacob Towney who has worked and lived there with his daughter for as long as he can remember is determined to find a way to keep it open. That is the gist of the story of the new musical, Cornelia Street. This is not by any means an uplifting musical. It is more of a sad commentary on a perhaps too rapidly changing world.

The show is full of interesting characters but the story is mostly depressing.  The songs are not very memorable either nor are the voices very impressive. Most of them are just average particularly that of Lena Pepe, the daughter of the director, who plays Towney's daughter. Fortunately, her acting skills are a lot better than her singing skills. Vocally, the standouts are Norbert Leo Butz in the role of Jacob and Gisele Jiminez in the role of his stepdaughter. Although the acting, on the whole, is good, Butz is definitely the standout there as well. In the end, however, this show will not enlighten you, encourage you, or cheer you up in any way nor will it provide you any closure.

And that's our view. For more about Cornelia Street or to purchase tickets, visit atlantictheater.org/production/cornelia-street

Tune in Sunday for this week's Sunday Scoop.
