A) Beginning Performances
In New York
1) A Doll's House
A Doll’s House thrust drama firmly into the modern age when it premiered in 1879. Now, nearly a century-and-a-half later, Tony Award nominee Jamie Lloyd and acclaimed playwright Amy Herzog will make freshly relevant a story that shocked audiences and brought forth a new era of theater. One of the most acclaimed actors of her generation, Jessica Chastain will inhabit one of the theater’s most iconic roles, re-energizing the play for a whole new generation.
Hudson Theatre (141 West 44th St.)
Beginning performances 2/13
Opening Night 3/9
2) Black Odyssey
Obie-winning playwright Marcus Gardley blends classic mythology, African-American history, and modern theatricality to create the poetic black odyssey. This vibrant reimagining of the Odysseus saga is set in modern-day Harlem, telling the epic tale of Ulysses Lincoln, a soldier facing the most daunting of voyages to reunite with his family. While fate may seem in control of Ulysses’ destiny, his ancestors and their buried history will help guide his journey home.
Classic Stage Company (136 E. 13th St.)
2/9 - 2/26
Opening Night 2/26
3) Othello
It will bring New Place Player’s signature dynamic interplay of music, Lecoq movement, swordplay, and language to a new level — with musicians and actors collaborating with one another to inspire an extraordinarily fresh take on Shakespeare’s powerful and timely story.
Casa Clara (218 East 25th St.)
Now through -2/25
Opening Night 2/11
4) Princess Phooey
This original musical is not your typical fairy tale, and Phooey is not your typical princess. She doesn’t want to curtsy, smile, or be rescued by a prince (although he tries), because she can rescue herself, if need be, and she would rather run around with the chambermaids and the stable people. Her older sister Elessia, along with the Good Fairies, try to make Phooey into what they consider a proper princess, while Morbidia has other plans for them all.
TADA! Youth Theatre (15 W. 28th St.)
2/10 - 2/26
5) Proud
In May 2018, four peacocks escaped the Philadelphia Zoo and proceeded down I-76, tying up traffic and evading capture. They were on a mission. This is their story, from their perspective.
6) Untitled Calamity Jane Play
A rough and tumble cowgirl, a prostitute with a heart of gold, a generous motherly woman of the west, a hardened criminal who cared for no one. Calamity Jane is all of these things and none of them in this nonlinear exploration of the contradictory stories of the life of Calamity Jane. When the truth of a woman is unknowable, does the difference between reality and what we want her to be really matter?
(The above shows are running in repertory)
The 14th Street Y Theater (344 E. 14th St.)
2/10 - 2/26
7) The Very Hungry Caterpillar
Children and families will see author Eric Carle’s beautifully imagined stories come to life at this very special event featuring a variety of enchanting puppets and special audience participation elements. Plus, all attendees will have the opportunity of taking a photo with The Very Hungry Caterpillar.
DR2 Theatre (01 East 15th St.)
Beginning 2/10
Opening Night 2/27
In Pennsylvania
8) Empitrax
The futuristic Empathitrax is a searing, darkly funny sci-fi story of a young couple who turn to a breakthrough in pharmacology to save their fractured relationship. When “Empathitrax” hits the market promising instant emotional intimacy by divining what others feel, one couple takes the leap to eliminate all boundaries between them. Like any new drug, there are unforeseen side effects which in this instance have catastrophic and poignant consequences.
Philadelphia Theatre Company (480 S. Broad St.)
2/10 - 3/5
B) Extension of the Run
9) Immortal Jellyfish Girl
Part coming-of-age story and part dystopian tragedy, The Immortal Jellyfish Girl soars through dimensions, unconfined by time, gravity, or biology. The year is 2555: large swaths of the earth’s surface are considered dead zones and global extinction has begun. Yet in this age of loneliness and destruction there is still hope…

Award-winning Playwrights David Henry Hwang, Idris Goodwin, Lauren Gunderson, Zora Howard, Samuel D. Hunter, Antoinette Nwandu, Octavio Solis, and Lloyd Suh
Will Judge the 3rd Annual Teen Playwriting Festival
ENOUGH! Plays to End Gun Violence
Nationally recognized playwrights Idris Goodwin, Lauren Gunderson, Tony Award winner David Henry Hwang, Drama Desk winner Samuel D. Hunter, Pulitzer Prize-finalist Zora Howard, Antoinette Nwandu, Octavio Solis, and Lloyd Suh will select the winning plays for ENOUGH! Plays to End Gun Violence, a playwriting contest for teens.
Teens ages 13-19 are encouraged to submit ten-minute plays for consideration now through April 20, 2023 – the 24th anniversary of the Columbine shootings. The six playwrights of the chosen plays will have an opportunity to workshop their plays and be teamed up with a dramaturg mentor to guide them through the revision process. Following the summer workshops, the winning plays will be made available to communities to be produced nationwide in a series of simultaneous readings on November 6, 2023 – exactly one year from the next presidential election.
The teen playwrights will receive memberships and craft training from The Dramatists Guild and a $500 stipend sponsored by Change the Ref, a gun violence prevention organization co-founded by Manuel and Patricia Oliver in honor of their son Joaquin Oliver who was murdered in the 2018 Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting. In addition, Playscripts, an imprint of the Broadway Licensing Group, will publish the plays.
Gun violence has become the leading cause of death among children and teens, surpassing car accidents and cancer. So what does the generation impacted the most by this uniquely American scourge have to say about it? Now in its third cycle, ENOUGH! aims to reveal just that. Since 2019, teen writers from 35 states have submitted 333 plays confronting gun violence to ENOUGH!. More than 100 organizations have staged readings of the chosen plays, involving nearly 2,000 artists and reaching more than 10,000 people, sparking critical conversations about gun violence in communities nationwide. Last year’s reading culminated with a flagship performance by Roundabout Theatre Company’s Youth Ensemble at Lincoln Center featured on PBS NewsHour, NPR, and the BBC.
Students can submit their plays at enoughplays.com/writing. Educators, theaters, and organizations looking to bring ENOUGH! to their community should visit enoughplays.com for more information or contact producer Michael Cotey at mcotey@enoughplays.com. Previous winning ENOUGH! scripts are available for purchase and licensing through Playscripts. Visit playscripts.com to learn more.

ANNOUNCES ITS LAUNCH
Dedicated to nurturing and producing new theatrical works, Good Apples Collective is co-led by director Nina Goodheart (Walking with Ghosts (Broadway), Jagged Little Pill (Broadway)) and playwright Sophie McIntosh (macbitches (NYT Critic’s Pick)).
Founded in response to the scarcity of opportunities for emerging theatermakers of marginalized genders to collaborate professionally, Good Apples Collective will empower artists to create work with trusted creative peers and revolt against oppressive hierarchies that undercut and isolate new voices.
Over the past few years, the theater community at large has finally begun to acknowledge that many longtime industry practices — from demanding weeks of unpaid labor to siloing artists of marginalized identities into “diversity slots” — are inequitable, insufficient, and unjust. Good Apples Collective is invested in moving the needle when it comes to such practices, which are too often ruinously unsustainable for working artists. As co-leaders of the Collective, Goodheart and McIntosh will strive to ensure equitable compensation and healthy workloads for all collaborators.
Furthermore, as part of its work to break down barriers to entry for emerging theatermakers, Good Apples Collective aims to build a repository of information and resources that will serve to demystify the indie theater landscape in New York City.
Good Apples Collective will launch their inaugural season in May 2023 with a world premiere of a soon-to-be-announced play written by McIntosh and directed by Goodheart. This fall, Good Apples Collective will present a reading of a new play to be determined, with more information coming soon.

The festival will feature 30 new films over four days from February 10-13, 2023, with programming focusing on global diversity and reflecting on the human experience and power for community. Tickets go on sale Thursday, January 19 at 12pm ET and are $12 for Film at Lincoln Center Members, $14 for Students, Senior (62+), and Persons with Disabilities, and $17 for the General Public. For additional information regarding the festival, please visit Film at Lincoln Center at filmlinc.org and Dance Films Association at dancefilms.org, and follow us on social media @filmlinc and @dancefilms.
Mother Melancholia is a multi-layered portrait of four women and a eulogy for the planet set to, and inspired by, Icelandic instrumentalist SĆ³ley's album of the same title. A self-proclaimed soundtrack for the end of the world as we know it, the dance film approaches patriarchal politics and ecofeminism through an unguarded, unsettlingly beautiful meditation on the difficulty, and immediacy, of being fully present in the world. Filmed in the surreal and eroding Icelandic landscape, Mother Melancholia is a quiet, yet urgent, conduit between the internal world of the human experience and the planet we inhabit.
Mother Melancholia was created by Samantha Shay in collaboration with the other performers: longtime Pina Bausch collaborator and dancer Barbara Kaufmann, Slave Play’s Tony Award-nominated Chalia La Tour, and Breanna O’Mara, former Tantzheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch dancer currently working with Dmitris Papaiouannou.
