I started this blog with one daughter, kept it up with the other, to spend time together doing something we enjoyed.
However, things change and people evolve. My daughters are older, busier, and not as interested in writing.
From now on this blog will be mostly mom with occasional contributions from my daughters and maybe even my husband.
Nothing else will change. We'll still focus on sharing fun places to go, fun things to do, and more, and we would  still love to hear your views too

Tips for Tuesday - Books: Love Interest & Only in New York & Movie: We Are Not Alone

We may have been given complimentary copies and/or access for review purposes to any books, products, and/or any other visual or audio media mentioned below. Any and all opinions expressed here are our own.

Books: Love Interest & Only in New York

Today we are recommending Love Interest by Clare Gilmore. Casey is poised to dislike Alex because he got the job she applied for, but when they are thrown together on a project, they quickly become friends and maybe even more. However, things are happening in their company that may not only change each of their lives and dreams but their relationship as well.

This is a really cute story that even manages to make a career in finance sound interesting. Both of the main characters are really good, kind, caring, and thoughtful people who don't try to overthink things like characters in novels usually do. This is not to say that they are perfect or don't have their flaws. However, it is refreshing that the author doesn't use the same boring plot devices to try to create tension in their relationship.  In fact, they are together for most of the story, and when they are not there is a good reason for it. That is refreshing. It makes the story more original and exciting to read.  Not knowing exactly what's going to happen keeps you interested but the feeling that it is all going to work out okay in the end keeps you invested in this charming book.

Today we are recommending Only in New York by Heather Alexander. This is an extremely delightful book not just about New York City but all of New York State. It is full of fun facts and information about all five New York City boroughs as well as other areas of New York and general facts about the state too. There is information about food, sports, weather, famous people born in the state and so much more. Each page of the book is packed with interesting tidbits (along with the whimsical drawings of J. Moffat-Pena) but it's all very quick, easy, and quite enjoyable to read. Although the book is primarily meant for 7 to 11-year-olds, anyone can enjoy it and probably learn things they didn't know about the state of New York even those who have lived there their whole lives.

Movies: We Are Not Alone

Today we are talking about We Are Alone which is a movie about UFOs and the possibility of alien life forms visiting Earth. However, it is not your typical UFO-related film trying to determine whether UFOs really exist and whether there is life on other planets. Rather, it seems to take for granted that they do exist and have visited us and posits that what is important is what they want from us and that is to warn us about climate change. Since there are many more pressing and believable arguments for the importance of climate control, this film is only really interesting if you are super into UFOs or if you are a climate control extremist.

We Are Not Alone is available On Demand now.

And that's our view. Tune in tomorrow for Where-To-Go Wednesday.
