NYC's Book of Wonder
121 Christopher Street
New York, NY
Tuesday Mary 2, 2017
Off-Broadway’s hit show, The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical and NYC’s Books of Wonder (booksofwonder.com) will celebrate the release of Rick Riordan’s newest book by creating a Book of Wonder pop-up shop at the Lortel Theatre (121 Christopher Street). They will be selling signed copies of The Trials of Apollo: The Dark Prophecy for $19.99 to those with tickets to The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical. Also available at the theatre, are official t-shirts of the Off-Broadway musical.
Percy Jackson has newly discovered powers he can’t control, monsters on his trail, and he is on a quest to find Zeus’s lightning bolt and prevent a war between the Greek gods. Normal is a myth when you’re a demigod. Based on the best-selling Disney-Hyperion novel by Rick Riordan, featuring live music, The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical is an action-packed theatrical adventure that will rock your world.
In The Trials of Apollo: The Dark Prophecy, Zeus has punished his son Apollo–god of the sun, music, archery, poetry, and more–by casting him down to earth in the form of a gawky, acne-covered sixteen-year-old mortal named Lester. The only way Apollo can reclaim his rightful place on Mount Olympus is by restoring several Oracles that have gone dark. What is affecting the Oracles, and how can Apollo/Lester do anything about them without his powers? After experiencing a series of dangerous–and frankly, humiliating–trials at Camp Half-Blood, Lester must now leave the relative safety of the demigod training ground and embark on a hair-raising journey across North America. Fortunately, what he lacks in godly graces he’s gaining in new friendships–with heroes who will be very familiar to fans of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians and Heroes of Olympus series. Come along for what promises to be a harrowing, hilarious, and haiku-filled ride.

The performance schedule isFriday at 6 PM; Saturday at 2:30 PM & 6 PM; and Sunday at 2:30 PM. Performances are at Dorothy Strelsin Theatre (312 West 36th Street, between 8th & 9th Avenues). Rebel Playhouse’s production transports audiences into the faraway world of the Old Turtle and Little One in this immersive, musical adventure.
In OLD TURTLE AND THE BROKEN TRUTH, a truth falls like a star from the sky and breaks into two pieces. When the villagers discover only half of the truth, it causes so many problems that Little One, a brave young girl, decides to search for the missing half. With the help of Old Turtle, and many animal friends, Little One is able to mend the broken truth and make it whole again — “you are loved…and so are they” — creating a better world for everyone.
OLD TURTLE AND THE BROKEN TRUTH is powerful allegory about accepting and welcoming differences, which will resonate with children and adults alike, particularly at a time when the world is doing otherwise. (Recommended for ages 6 and up.)
Rebel Playhouse will host a 45-minute donation-based workshop for children after each Sunday matinee. Participants will work with the actors to play theater games and explore themes from the show.

3/Fifths turns 3LD Art & Technology Center into SupremacyLand, an interactive romp through a dystopian theme park that puts white privilege on display
3-Legged Dog (Kevin Cunningham, Artistic Director) presents the world premiere of 3/Fifths, conceived and written by James Scruggs, directed by Tamilla Woodard andKareem Fahmy, with video design by Jon Bremner and Cam Vokey, choreographed by André M. Zachery, and an original score composed by Melanie West. 3/Fifths begins performances on Monday, May 1 for a limited engagement through Sunday, May 28. Press opening is Tuesday, May 9 at 7:20 PM. The performance schedule is Tuesday – Saturday at 7 PM & 7:20 PM; Sunday at 4 PM & 4:20 PM.Please note, the performance time on Sunday, May 28 is at 6:30 PM & 6:50 PM. Performances are at3LD Art & Technology Center (80 Greenwich Street, at Rector, in downtown Manhattan). 3/Fifths, an interactive romp through the minefields of racism in the US, turns 3LD Art and Technology Center into SupremacyLand, a dystopian theme park that puts white privilege on display.
Choose your race when you get to the door, but choose carefully because you cannot change your mind. Once you enter SupremacyLand, you are guided to The Atrocity Carnival where historical and contemporary atrocities are transformed, elevated, and celebrated, as fun, radically interactive games, contests and experiences. Win Supremacy Dollars (good for beer!) at the Noose Making Booth! Climb aboard The Race Ride, where audience members can experience an alternate race! Sing out with Rodney King Karaoke! Take a selfie in a chalk outline! (Fragility nurses are available during the Carnival for short sessions.)
The audience leaves the The Atrocity Carnival through 3LD’s tubular lobby, which is transformed using video mapping into a slave ship in the middle of a transatlantic crossing. The ship deposits audience members into SupremacyLand’s Cabaret, where re-enactments of daily incidents of white supremacy are performed.
Incorporating large-scale immersive video, performance, text, music, and radical interactivity, 3/Fifths is a bold examination of America’s shameful history of racism and a daring commentary on the virtual weaponization of black skin that remains prevalent in this country. James Scruggs’ ethno-theme park presents racism as viewed through a fun house mirror, and offers a close approximation of the smorgasbord of carnage perpetrated upon African Americans simply by virtue of the color of their skin. Shocking, grotesque, and uncomfortably entertaining, 3/Fifths upends the audience's notions of racial identity, safety, and privilege.

LABA
Presents the World Premiere of
birds sing a pretty song.
birds sing a pretty song.receives its World Premiere at the Theater at The 14th Street Y, 344 E. 14th Street, NYC, as a LABA second stage production, from May 4-7, 2017. Performances: Thursday-Saturday at 7:30pm, and Sunday at 3pm. Join us opening night, May 4 for a Rooftop Party which will include meet and greet with artists and champagne toast. Tickets are $18 and available online at 14streety.org/birdssing or by phone at 646-995-4310.
birds sing a pretty song., choreographed by Rebecca Margolick (Sidra Bell Dance New York, UNA Projects, Patricia Noworal) and co-created and directed with Maxx Berkowitz, seamlessly fuses dance, live music and interactive media. Developed last year during their Fellowship at LABA: A Laboratory for Jewish Culture at The 14th Street Y, birds sing a pretty song. is back for a much anticipated full-length production.
This full-lengthwork revolves around two dancers, suspended in an environment where our hyper social nature reaches a point in which the lines of virtual and reality are obscured. The audience follows the dancer's wanderings through a world manipulated and influenced by the "curators" (the three live musicians) and projected light structures that move and direct the world onstage. Throughout the piece they encounter an attempt at a relationship, fleeting glimpses of memory, and a fight for connection. Tied in with sound and video reactive visuals, the piece explores how surveillance and confinement through our digital and physical surroundings affect one's sense of reality and self. Addressing these questions through contemporary dance, interactive/responsive film and live music, all tied together by audio manipulation and seamless integration.
