Fixed in the public imagination as toothy, fearsome predators, sharks are far more fascinating and more complex than their depiction in popular culture. Sharks at the American Museum of Natural History brings to life the incredible diversity of this intriguing group of fishes through a spectacular “parade” of dozens of lifelike shark models that range from 33 feet to 5 inches long, including the prehistoric megalodon, the “Tyrannosaurus rex of the seas,” digital interactive, and fossils from the Museum’s extensive collections.
Sharks also explores the conservation issues facing sharks today, including overfishing and habitat destruction, demonstrating that while these amazing animals pose few threats to people, we represent a serious danger to them.

The Bryant Park Picnic Performances season of free, live performances, presented by Bank of America, continues on Friday, September 1 with Young, Gifted and Black, a special program from the The Classical Theatre of Harlem. The performance features Tony-nominated actress Crystal Lucas-Perry.
Inspired by playwright Lorraine Hansberry and songwriter Nina Simone, "To be young, gifted and Black" is a positive and uplifting message to celebrate resilience, pride and the endless promise of our youth. It refers to recognizing the unique talents, abilities, and potential they possess, and acknowledging the value and contributions they bring to society despite policies, various challenges and systemic barriers in their lives. This presentation is an expression of young excellence in New York City – a place that appreciates the worth and potential of those who are about to inherit this world.
Attendees to Bryant Park Picnic Performances may bring their own food or purchase from on-site food and beverage vendors near the Lawn. The New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC), a non-profit multidisciplinary performing arts center and one of the nation’s largest arts education providers, announces new fall classes at the Colton Institute for Research and Training in the Arts.
The Colton Institute for Training and Research in the Arts supports programs championing the whole child. Arts training, mentorship from working artists, career counseling, and a talent program that pays NJPAC Arts Education students and alums for performances across New Jersey are some of the initiatives advanced by the $10 million catalytic gift from Judy and Stewart Colton.
The Colton Institute increased NJPAC’s arts education offerings. It advances its services for students — many of whom come from economically disadvantaged circumstances — including mentorship and field training, ultimately creating a pathway for college and career opportunities in the performing arts, whether onstage or behind the scenes working in entertainment in a corporate setting. Harmony is set to play Broadway’s Barrymore Theatre (243 W 47th St.) with previews starting Wednesday, October 18, ahead of a Monday, November 13 official opening night.

16) PHILADELPHIA ZOO ANNOUNCES ARRIVAL OF TWO ORPHANED PUMA CUB SIBLINGS RESCUED FROM WASHINGTON STATE
Philadelphia Zoo announces the arrival of two orphaned puma cubs that will now call America's first Zoo their new permanent home. The cubs, one male and one female, are now under Zoo care and were rescued in Kalama, Washington this past summer. Prior to their arrival in Philadelphia, they were cared for by Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife experts before being flown across the country to the Zoo. The cubs are currently living behind-the-scenes inside the Zoo’s on-site Animal Hospital as they complete their quarantine period before moving to Big Cat Falls. They will NOT be on exhibit or visible to the public until later this summer or early fall. Philadelphia Zoo was chosen as the new, permanent home for the cubs because of the Zoo's expertise in caring for this species. The Zoo staff aptly named the cubs Elbroch and Olympia. The male is named Elbroch (pronounced el-brock) in honor of Mark Elbroch who is the leading puma researcher for Panthera, a conservation organization devoted to the protection of the world’s 40 species of wild cats. The female is named Olympia after the state capital of Washington where the cubs were rescued. You can tell the two apart by their size. Elbroch is a little bit bigger than his sister Olympia. He's confident and not afraid to explore and Olympia follows along, looking to her brother for reassurance.

All classes are structured around a proprietary curriculum that integrates breath work, movement, Linklater voice and speech training, Stanislavsky objective work, and more.
Take Choice Acting is currently accepting applications from performers for its inaugural workshop series kicking off in October at New York’s Open Jar Studios (1601 Broadway). These classes will offer a select group of students, aged 9 to 17, the opportunity to hone their craft and take brave, bold choices in a respectful, creative, and encouraging environment. Weekly classes will take place on Saturdays, beginning on October 7 and running through November 4.
