I started this blog with one daughter, kept it up with the other, to spend time together doing something we enjoyed.
However, things change and people evolve. My daughters are older, busier, and not as interested in writing.
From now on this blog will be mostly mom with occasional contributions from my daughters and maybe even my husband.
Nothing else will change. We'll still focus on sharing fun places to go, fun things to do, and more, and we would  still love to hear your views too

Modern Pinball NYC & Matilda

We were given free passes to Modern Pinball NYC for review purposes.  Any and all opinions expressed here are our own.
Me- Modern Pinball NYC, wow! Modern Pinball NYC was fun. I loved the Wizard of Oz pinball machine.  That was my favorite. They also had The Simpsons, Monopoly and a bunch of others. I tried a bunch of different machines when I was there. I just liked The Wizard of Oz one best. I like the movie the Wizard of Oz, and it was a really fun machine. It reminded me of the movie. It was cool to see all the different kinds of pinball machine they had there. There were machines of TV shows, movies, games and other things. There was even a really old fashioned clown one. I didn't really like that one. It wasn't like the pinball machines I am used to. I liked that you didn't have to put money in the machines. You just paid for the time and played as long as you want. I am not really a big pinball player. However, I enjoyed Modern Pinball NYC.
****************************************************************************************************
Me -Matilda, wow! Matilda was a great show. It was really funny. The acting was good. The songs were good although only 3 or 4 were memorable. It was much darker than the movie. I read the book too, but I don't really remember it because it was so long ago. The show also had a lot of new things that weren't in the book or the movie that was the stuff that made it darker. My favorite songs are Revolting Children and Naughty. Parts of both of those songs are in the commercial for the show. Of course, my favorite character is Matilda. In this version, her brother was kind of funny. They way over exaggerated his stupidity. In the movie, he was much meaner. Also, in this version, the parents were much meaner than they were in the movie. I would definitely recommend seeing this show but just don't expect a light happy musical.

And that's Melia's view.

Funtivity Friday will be closed this week. Have a Happy New Year!

Tune in Sunday for this week's Sunday Scoop.

Where-To-Go Wednesday - Modern Pinball NYC & Matilda

We were given free passes to Modern Pinball NYC for review purposes. Any and all opinions expressed here are our own.

What:  Modern Pinball NYC

Where: 362 3rd Ave.
             New York, NY

Who: All ages
Mom's view: If you like to play pinball, you will love Modern Pinball NYC. Even if you don't like to play pinball, it is still a really fun place. It is like a museum of pinball. They have some really unique and interesting pinball machines from all different eras. Our favorite was a Wizard of Oz pinball machine complete with a house that can spin as if hit by a Cyclone, scary looking trees, and ruby slippers as flippers. The game actually plays clips of the movie as well. Other pinball machines available include ones based on CSI, The Walking Dead, Terminator, Avatar, Monopoly and The Simpsons. Modern Pinball NYC is not just for adults and big kids. Stools are available so smaller kids can reach the games. Another great thing about Modern Pinball NYC is that you don't have to worry about scrounging for coins or buying endless tokens to play. You pay for the amount of time you want to play and you have unlimited play for that time period. You can even leave and come back and the period of time you were gone will not count as part of the play time you paid for. Modern Pinball also offers birthday parties as well as science lessons for schools and camps during which classes will actually be able to see and examine an opened pinball machine. Modern Pinball is open every day from 11:00am to midnight. For more information go to

What: Matilda the Musical

Where: Shubert Theater
             225 W. 44th Street
             New York, New York

Who: 6 and up
Mom's view: Matilda is not the best show I have ever seen. However, there is a lot to like about it. The acting is good. The singing is good. A few of the songs are even memorable, a rarity in this day and age. I specifically like Naughty, When I Grow Up and Revolting Children. Naughy is really fun song despite the title. When I Grow Up is both sweet and sad. Revolting Children is a rousing anthem. The set dominated by giant scrabble tiles is unique and interesting,  There are a lot of comedic moments in the show. The character of Matilda is inspiring in the way that she ultimately manages to thrive no matter what.  However, despite, the likeability of the main character, this is not at all a bright sunny musical. Those who like their entertainment a little bit darker will  probably love Matilda. Those who have read the book or seen the movie and enjoyed them will probably enjoy the show. The show is a bit darker in tone than either the book or the movie, however. I would not recommend  it for very small children or those who are easily frightened especially if they are unfamiliar with the story. On the whole, the show is more enjoyable if you are familiar with the story before you go.  Not only because it is less likely to be frightening that way, but also because sometimes the English accents are hard to understand. Over all though, somehow the show was not like I thought it would be. I really expected to enjoy it a lot more than I did especially considering all the accolades the show received including 12 Tony nominations and 4 Tony wins. The show also won a special Tony Honor for Excellence in theater for the four young girls who initially played Matilda as well as two Drama Desk Awards, a New York Drama Critics Circle Award and a Theatre World Award. For more information or to order tickets go to http://us.matildathemusical.com/.
And that's Mom's view. Tune in to tomorrow's Talking Topics post for more about Modern Pinball NYC and Matilda.

Tips for Tuesday - Movies: He's Just Not That Into You and The Intern

This post may contain affiliate links. If you click on a link and make purchase, we may be compensated.
Me - Today I am recommending He's Just Not That Into You. This is movie based on the non-fiction best seller. It involves several intersecting stories about love and relationships. This was a really romantic movie. Instead of one happy ending there were a bunch of happy endings. The movie also had a really good cast. I would highly recommend it.
Mom - Today I am recommending The Intern. Ben a retired executive in his 70s goes to work as an intern to Jules Ostin a much younger woman who owns her own  clothing company. She ends up learning much more from him than he learns from her. This a really sweet movie. The acting is first rate from the stars Robert De Niro and Anne Hathaway right on down through the cast. The movie shows that despite what they may think the young still have a lot to learn from those who came before them.

And that's our view. Tune in tomorrow for Where-To-Go Wednesday.

Monthly Mash-up December, 2015 Curling and Straightening Hair and The End of the Year 2015

Me - My topic for this month is curling and straightening hair. I straighten my hair almost every day. I wish I could have been born with naturally straight hair. When I was younger my hair was wavy and I used to want curly hair. Now, that I am older my hair got curly, and I wish it was not. Over the years, I have had several different curling irons and flat irons. None of the curling irons worked well at all. The flat irons worked but they took a long time. I recently got a new curling iron and flat iron. The new curling works really well. The new flat iron works nicely too. It is really annoying that I have to go through all that curling and/or straightening to have the hair I want every day!

Mom- My topic for this month is the end of the year 2015. This has been quite an up and down year not only for myself but for the US and the World at large. On the downside, there seemed to be mass shootings every week including but not limited to terrorist attacks both in the US and abroad. There were also numerous natural disasters around the country and the world as there seem to be every year. On the upside, the Pope visited the U.S. While this did not affect me directly because I am not a Catholic, I do have to say that even for me and other non-Catholics like myself, there is a lot to like about this Pope. Another highlight of the year was the birth of Princess Charlotte in England which definitely bumped up the cute factor of the royal family, I mean is there any cuter family than Will and Kate and their two adorable youngsters? For me personally, I would not say it was a great year, but it definitely wasn't as bad as it could have been. On the bright side, our blog has grown by leaps and bounds. As a result, we got to go to a lot of cool places including, amusement parks, museums and other places, and see a lot of great things including many shows on Broadway, Off-Broadway, and way off Broadway. I think for me personally the highlight of my year was that I got to see 18 Broadway shows some of which I loved, a lot of which I liked and very few of which I didn't like at all. All of the places we went and the things we saw this year, we have already talked about in one of our Where-To-Go Wednesday posts or we will be talking about in an upcoming Where-To-Go Wednesday in the coming year.

And that's our view. What's on your mind?

Tune in tomorrow for Tips for Tuesday.

Where-To-Go Wednesday: Inside Broadway Tours and The Gazillion Bubble Show

We were given a free Inside Broadway Tour for review purposes. Any and all opinions expressed here are our own.

Me - Inside Broadway Tours, wow! Inside Broadway Tours was fun. It was really interesting to learn stuff about Broadway. For instance, I never knew how much it costs to advertise on the big billboard at Times Square. It costs millions for the tiniest amount of time like a day or a week or something. Also, I found out that there was a show called Moose Murders that lasted one performance. It got booed so much that the leading lady quit after the show and never did another show. Our tour guide Samantha was really good. She was really informative. She was really impressed by the amount of shows my Mom and I have been to. A lot of the other people on the tour were out-of-town tourists who haven't been to a lot of shows. Even though I go to New York and Broadway a lot, I still like to learn new things about them, and Inside Broadway Tours is a good way to do that.

We were given free tickets to The Gazillion Bubble Show for review purposes. Any and all opinions expressed here are our own.

Me - The Gazillion Bubble Show was a great show for little kids. All the little kids that got picked to volunteer where so cute. It is also a great show for older kids that love little kids because there are a lot of little kids at the show. Even if you are older and you really really love bubbles, you will like this show. If you go and sit in the front row or near the front row, you might want to bring a raincoat, rain boots, and maybe even sunglasses or goggles because you will get wet. When they say, "A Gazillion Bubbles", they mean it. I liked when the guy told the audience he was using a magical spray to make the bubbles last longer. Then, he said he was just kidding and that it was just water. I also liked when they played a video and showed a bubble that they made that was a bubble replica of the great wall of China. It was just as big. He said it was the biggest bubble in the world. Kids will also like that there is audience participation in this show and those participating get prizes. The prizes are really fun too. They give away really cool bubble related prizes. If your kids like bubbles, they will love this show.*

*The above is a guest post by little sister, Aurella.

Funtivity Friday will be closed tomorrow.

Tune in Sunday for this week's Sunday Scoop.

Where-To-Go Wednesday - Inside Broadway Tours and the Gazillion Bubble Show

We were given a free Inside Broadway Tour for review purposes. Any and all opinions expressed here are our own.
George M. Cohan Statue at Times Square
What: Inside Broadway Tours

Where: From: The George M. Cohan Statue          To:  Shubert Alley
             46th St. & Broadway                                          225 W. 44th St.
Times Square                                                    (between 8th Ave & Broadway)
New York, NY                                                    (linking W. 44th St. to W.45th St. )
                                                                                        New York, NY
When: 4:00pm daily

Who: all ages

Mom's view: There are a number of walking tours through New York's  Broadway district. We would definitely recommend Inside Broadway Tours.  Their tours teach you not only about the theater district the way it is now but also about the area the way it was long before there were any theaters there. Even if you think that you already know everything there is to know about the area, you will still learn things. The tour guides are all involved in the professional theater themselves and are pleasant and informative. They will share not only historical and current information about the area and shows that have played in the past or are currently playing but also about their own lives and what it is like to work in the theater. Once you've met your tour guide, you will always feel like you've got a friend in the theater. That is one thing that makes this tour special. Our tour guide, Samantha was especially great and let us in on a bunch of great ways to save money on theater tickets. However, the tour is a lot of fun on the whole, and the hour and forty five minutes will go by in a flash. Inside Broadway Tours are open to all ages. We would recommend them for adults and children who are able to stand up and walk for long periods of time and do not get bored easily listening to people talk a lot. We especially  recommend the tour for those  children and/or adults who are interested in theater and/or history. The tour is reasonably priced especially compared to some others. It is $35.00 per person and is free of charge for children 12 and under. For more information or to book a tour go to http://www.insidebroadwaytours.com/broadway-tour

We were given free tickets to the Gazillion Bubble Show for review purposes. Any and all opinions expressed here are our own.
What: Gazillion Bubble Show

Where: New World Stages
              340 W. 50th St.
              New York, NY

Who: All ages
Mom's view: If you have very young children that you want to take to the theater, this is the perfect show for them. Children that love bubbles will especially love this show where they will see different colored bubbles and bubbles as big as people among other things. To add to the fun, your child may even be picked to volunteer on stage and win a cool prize. Kids definitely should not be bored at this show since the show is not very long and doesn't really have a plot. It is just about an hour and twenty minutes of bubble fun. While children do need to stay in their seats during the show unless they are invited to come up on stage, they do not have to be quiet. This is another reason the show is such as great choice for anyone with small children but not necessarily anyone without as the noise level can get quite high. It is definitely not a show that teens or adults (or probably even most tweens) would enjoy without a younger child around. If you are planning to attend the show, just be aware that if you are seated close enough to the stage, there is a good chance you will come home sticky with bubble juice so if you do not find that appealing, keep that in mind when buying tickets. Also, you will be bombarded with an array of bubbles and bubble related toys outside the theater for purchase. For more information or to order tickets go to http://gazillionbubbleshow.com/
And that's Mom's view. For more about Inside Broadway Tours and the Gazillion Bubble Show, see tomorrow's Talking Topics post.

Tips for Tuesday - Misc.: NuMe Soiree Holiday Set and Kenz Laurenz Cotton Stretch Headbands

Me - Today I am recommending NuMe Soiree Holiday Set. It consists of  a curling iron with 8 different wands and a straightener. It works really well. The curling irons I had previously did not really curl my hair at all. It is also nice to have so many options for how you want to curl your hair. The straightener heats up faster and works quicker than other straighteners I have had. All in all, I would definitely recommend these products.

For more about NuMe Holiday collections or more about NuMe in general go to
http://numeproducts.com/holiday-gifts

Mom - Today I am recommending Kenz Laurenz Cotton Stretch Headbands. They have a nice thick band. They come in lots of colors and patterns. You can order them from Amazon. What is especially nice is that you can pick the colors you want that way you don't have to take the chance of gettting too many of the same color or too many colors you don't like.

For more about Kenz Laurenz cotton stretch headbands or their other hair products go to
http://www.kenzlaurenz.com/ or find them on Amazon.com.

And that's our view. Tune in tomorrow for Where-To-Go Wednesday.
