Funny Friday - I'll Have What You're Having
Me -
When I was little, we went to lunch with my great grandmother. She gave me some of her fruit. The whole rest of the meal, I kept pointing to her plate, and I only wanted to eat what was on her plate.
Mom -
When Aurella was little, she always wanted a taste of my food even we were eating exactly the same thing.

The Love Note
Me- The Love Note, wow! The Love Note was mostly good. My favorite character in the show was Jessie, the main character's imaginary friend, Airy. She was just such a great actress! She was so animated. I love the way she over-exaggerated all her emotions. There was something about Jessie that bothered me. The character of Brittany was a typical mean girl except that later you learn there is a reason for her meanness. I love the mean music that played every time she came on. The bookworms played their parts very well, and they were very believable as nerds. The girls who played the mean girl's entourage were good too. The music was good but only one song was really memorable, and I can only remember one line from that song. The songs were entertaining though. There was one about detention and one about lunch, for example. There was another about a love note. There was one that was a duet between Jessie and her imaginary friend. That was the best song in the show. There was one that the lunch lady sang about mean people. It was sad. It seems like there should have been romance in the show, and they seemed to be heading that way. However, nothing ever happened with that. I was disappointed because I love romance. The story started out great and had so much potential. I didn't like the end though. There were too many lose ends that didn't get wrapped up. It was good that the show dealt with the important subject of bullying. However, the way they dealt with it in the end was unrealistic. Over all, it was a decent show.
And that's our view. What do you think is a good way to deal with bullying?
Mom- There was a lot to like about The Love Note. Bethany McNeill was suitably sweet and innocent as the bullied Jessie. Courtney Rada was ebullient and childlike as Jessie's only and imaginary friend. Katie Mebane personified the typical mean popular girl. I love the evil theme music that played every time she entered. The bookworms and the mean kids were all well cast and suited their roles well. The songs were for the most part enjoyable including songs about a food fight and about a boy and a girl wanting to approach and talk to each other but not really sure how. I like the show's ultimate message that you should put yourself in the other person's shoes. However, I don't think that is always so easy to get people to do. The other message of the show is that all people have worth, we need to show people that they have worth to us. The Love Note of the title is not a note to a boy from a girl or vice versa. It is a note from a mother to her child. Jessie's mother hand packs her daughter's lunch every day and leaves her a love note in it. The bully, Brittany's parents neither pack her lunch nor leave her love notes. The authors seem to imply that Jesse knows she is loved and that she is able to get past being bullied because of that and because Brittany does know that she is loved she is a bully. However, I don't think things are always so simple or else there would be a lot less teen suicide and bullying. A lot of kids who are bullied have very loving families, but that doesn't take away all of the outside of the family pressures. Also, not all kids who bully come from homes where they are not shown love. However, I do agree that we need to show people (kids in particular) that we love and cherish them as is suggested on the show's web-site. Also, I think that anything that shines a light on the problem of bullying and at least attempts to deal with the issue in anyway is worthwhile and that is why this show is important and worth seeing.
And that's our view. What do you think is a good way to deal with bullying?

Where-To-Go Wednesday - The Love Note
What: The Love Note
Where: The Actor's Temple Theater
339 West 47th Street
New York, New York
When: Now through December 21, 2014 Wednesdays at 11:00 AM
Sundays at 10:00 AM
Who: Age 6 and up
Our view: The Love Note is an important musical in that it deals with the serious subject of bullying . The acting is good. The singing is good. The songs are fun although not necessarily memorable. The problem with the show is that the ending is a little simplistic and doesn't seem real. Also, there are a lot of parts to the story that don't seem to fit together in the end. It is still a show worth seeing, however, especially for teens and tweens because whether they are the bullies or the bullied or just the bystanders, they will recognize themselves in this show. This show doesn't have all the answers. The problem of bullying has been around for much too long and is much to complex to solve in an hour and a half. However, it does focus attention on the subject and could easily serve as catalyst for a serious discussion of this very important topic. Therefore, it is an especially great show for schools and other youth groups to see. However, it is also a good show for parents and their kids to see together particularly if they are prepared to really talk about the important issues raised by this play. So if this show gets people talking about the issue of bullying and gets them thinking about what can be done about it, that is important and that is worthwhile in and of itself.
And that's our view. Tune in tomorrow for more about The Love Note.

Tips for Tuesday- Apps., Web-Sites and YouTube Channels: Covet Fashion and AIP Surveys
Me-Today I am recommending Covet Fashion. It's a really cool fashion game. You enter contests where you have to make a specific type outfit. You earn money for entering contests that you can use to buy new outfits from the store. When you win contests, you get a prize like a piece of clothing for free. It is so much fun to put together so many different outfits. It's really addicting.
Mom- Today I am recommending AIP Surveys. You won't necessarily get a lot of surveys from AIP. However, they do not send you a lot of surveys that you won't qualify for and their surveys generally do not take a lot of time. For more information go to http://us.aipsurveys.com/en/.

Monthly Mash-up for November, 2014: Waiting and Holiday Shopping
Me -My topic for this month is how much I hate to wait for things. Right now, I am waiting for June 8 because the final book in my favorite series is coming out. It is called Forever. It is by Chanda Hahn. It is part of the An Unfortunate Fairytale series. I am waiting for the holidays because I want presents, and I want to be off from school. I am waiting for my birthday because I am getting an iPhone, and I am also looking forward to having red velvet cake. We really don't eat red velvet cake that much except on my birthday because my father hasn't gotten over when I was 2, and I got my red velvet cake all over him. However, it is one of my favorites. I always can't wait for Wednesdays because I love to watch Nashville. It is is so dramatic! I can't wait for all the couples I love on the show - Rayna and Deacon, Skyler and Gunnar, and Juliet and Avery to get back together. The only thing I can wait for and don't look forward to is getting up for school every weekday morning.
Mom- My topic for this month is holiday shopping. I have a love/hate relationship with holiday shopping. I love buying things for my kids for the holidays. I like to surprise them with a mix of things they asked for and things they may not have specifically asked for but I know they'll love. My younger daughter is still at the age when she usually loves everything I get for her. With my older daughter, I never know. Sometimes, I think she will love something, and she doesn't even like it. I hate buying things for other people not because I don't like to get things for other people because I never know what to get them. Now, in our extended family we mostly shop for the kids anyway. Years ago, everybody bought presents for everybody. Then, we started doing a grab bag where each person got a present for one other person. Now, we haven't even bothered with that in years. I love that it makes things easier having less people to figure out what to buy for. I hate that it makes the holidays just another time that was a lot more special when you were a kid like birthdays. We don't exchange birthday gifts in our family either. In fact, we barely exchange birthday cards (as in we sometimes send cards to each other we sometimes don't) although we do call each other on our birthdays. I hate shopping in the stores for the holidays. I can't stand the crowds, and I think that holiday shopping really brings out the worst in people rather than bringing out the holiday spirit in people. I don't even like to set foot in the stores from Thanksgiving until New Year's unless I have to. I love shopping on-line. It's quicker. It's easier. It's less stressful. I only don't like it if I have to pay shipping fees, but since I do most of my shopping through Amazon, and I have Amazon Prime that is not that much of a problem. In any case, love it or hate it, I am always glad when my holiday shopping is done.

Funny Friday - Whose Birthday Is It Anyway?
Me -
When I was little I told my Mom I was going to say Happy Birthday to my brother "You said Happy Birthday to him." she replied. "Yesterday was his birthday. It's not his birthday every day, you know."
"It's not?" I said.
Mom-
We had a whole bunch of family birthdays in a row. After that Melia seemed to want a birthday in the family every day. She would wake up in the morning and say. "Happy Birthday, Mommy!"
I would say "It's not my birthday."
She would say "I'm gonna say Happy Birthday to my brother."
I would say "His birthday passed."
Then, she would just keep naming different people in the family who's birthday she thought it could possibly be.
We welcome you to share your funny stories with us. Tune in tomorrow for another Talking Topic.

Galli Theater
We were not financially compensated for this post. We received free tickets to Galli Theater's production of Rapunzel for review purposes. All opinions expressed here are our own based on our experience.
Me - Galli Theater, wow! We went to see Rapunzel at Galli Theater's Fairytale Theater. It was adorable the way all the little kids were participating in the show. At one point the prince was blind and he was walking around asking all the little kids if they were Rapunzel. One little girl said, "I'm Rapunzel." When the prince asked if anyone wanted to escort him to the princess all the little girls got up and grabbed his arm and were leading him to Rapunzel. The actors were so good with the kids they found ways to incorporate all the little kids into the show while still staying in character. I especially loved the character of the prince in the show. He had this amazing accent. I don't know if it was real or not, but I loved it. The theater itself was so cute. It is tiny, but it is perfect for little kids. They had these cute little chairs in the front row just for the kids. They were adorable. Both the kids and the chairs. I had as much fun watching the reactions to the show of the little kids at Galli Theater's Fairytale Theater as I did watching the show itself.
Mom - I was very impressed by Galli Theater's production of Rapunzel. Galli Theater doesn't have a big fancy theater. They have a tiny theater and a small stage. They don't have elaborate productions. Their sets kind of look like something you'd find in a high school production of a show. What Galli Theater does do well is cater to their audience, and their audience doesn't care about things like big stages and fancy sets. They don't even care that they are not seeing the Disney versions of fairy tales that they are probably used to and Galli Theater's fairy tales still end happily. The audience is made up of mostly of kids under 10. All they want to do is have a good time. Galli Theater certainly gives them that. Where else can kids get to give advice to a grown-ups, help a prince find his princess and dance on stage among other things. If you're a kid and you get to go to the theater and do all that, what is not to love? Not one child that I saw left that theater without a happy smile on his or her face. How often can you say that about a show or anything for that matter? Kudos to the talented actors who bring Galli Theater's fairytales to life. The actors appearing in the current production of Rapunzel are Simon Geronimo as the husband/prince, Kristina Cloetingh as the wife/Rapunzel and Sarah Sutliff as Mother Goethel. No matter what their young audience says or does they never break character and they never stop making their audience feel welcome and feel a part of the show. If you're in the New York area or you're going to be in the New York area, and you have young children that you would to take to the theater, and you go see one of Galli Theater's Fairytale production, you won't regret it, and neither will your kids.
And that's our view. What fairytale would you or your kids love to see on stage?

Where-To-Go Wednesday Galli Theater's Children's Fairytale Theater and Ticket Giveaway
We were not financially compensated for this post. We did receive tickets to Galli Theater's production of Rapunzel for review purposes. All opinion expressed here are our own based on our experience.
What: Galli Theater's Children's Fairytale Theater
Where: Glorida Maddox Theater
151 West 26th Street, 7th Floor
New York, New York
Who: All ages
Our view: Galli Theater is the cutest little theater we ever saw. It is especially perfect for children from ages 3-7 and/or children just being introduced to theater for the first time. The theater is small, intimate and cozy. It is as if a professional production were mounted in your backyard. The front row of the theater is reserved for kids, and it is filled with tiny seats just their size. Whereas calling out and audience participation is usually frowned upon, here it is is actually encouraged. From start to finish young audience members are invited to be part of the production as the actors ask them questions during the course of the show and even at times encourage them to come up on stage. It helps that the stage is not raised making it safe and easy for young children to access easily. All in all, your kids will love Galli Theater. Shows run Saturday and Sundays at 2:00 PM. The current production of Rapunzel runs through November 30. Their next show Snow White runs throughout the month of December. They do have some productions that are meant for slightly older audiences. More about those in a future post. To find out more about Galli Theater or to order tickets go to http://www.gallitheaterny.com/welcome.html. You can also enter below to win a family four (4) pack of tickets to a Galli Theater production.

Tips for Tuesday - Misc.: McDonalds and Chocolate Chex
Me - Today I am recommending McDonald's. They have good smoothies. They are really really fruity. I have only had the Strawberry Banana so far. I was going to have a different one, but I liked that one so much I had it again. Also, I love their cheeseburgers. They are really juicy. The bacon on the bacon cheeseburger is not too crispy and not too burnt. The fries are good too. They are salty. Some are crisp. Some are chewy. It's a good combination. I also like the chicken nuggets. They taste good with ketchup. I like the chocolate chip cookies. They are really soft and chewy. I usually prefer more crunchy cookies, but the McDonald cookies are really chocolatey. McDonald's is my second favorite fast food place, and I would highly recommend it.
Mom - Today I am recommending Chocolate Chex Cereal. If you like chocolate, you'll love this cereal. It is delicious! It tastes like hot chocolate, if it wasn't hot and if it came out of a box. It is that chocolatey. Either as a breakfast or as a snack, it is a great way to get your chocolate fix.

Mom - There are so many times when it is great to be a kid. One great time to be a kid is during the winter holidays. One of things that makes the holidays so special for kids is family traditions. One of our family traditions is taking New Year's videos. It is fun to see how how the kids have grown over the course of a year and hear how everyone's likes and dislikes have changed. Another tradition we have is sleeping around the fireplace in the living room on New Year's Eve. Other families have different traditions. Actor, Mario Lopez and his wife, Courtney like to bake pumpkin pie with their kids. Hear more about this Lopez Family tradition by clicking on this link Mario and Courtney Lopez video. I'm sure you and your family have traditions of your own. Gymboree wants to hear about those traditions. If you share your family traditions with Gymboree you can be featured in Gymboree's end-of-year video plus you'll be entered for a chance to win a $2500.00 shopping spree at Gymboree. Mrs. Cavanaugh's Chocolates - Get 1 lb of Chocolate Free
Time was when Marie Cavanaugh spent hours in her South Dakota farmhouse
each holiday season making pecan rolls and homemade chocolates for
holiday gifting.
"It started when my aunt sent her pecan-rolls recipe," Mrs. Cavanaugh recalled. "I gave the recipe my own touch and started making the yummy specialties. Then I began dipping chocolates. Our friends and neighbors loved these treats, encouraging me to start a candy business. Finally, I decided it might be a good idea.'"
Her husband George and children Carla, Lorraine, Calvin, Colene and Genise rallied, helping Mrs. Cavanaugh fill demands for her homemade sweets.
...In 1972, the family moved to Utah, leaving good friends and their beloved cattle ranch.
"It was a difficult decision, especially for George," Mrs. Cavanaugh said. "He was excited about making our new venture, which we chose to call Mrs. Cavanaugh's Candies, a great success. We felt Utah was blessed with good chocolates and that we would enjoy - and could compete with - those who pride themselves on making excellent chocolates."
Millions of pounds of chocolates later, Mrs. Cavanaugh's candies have earned a reputation for unquestionable excellence. Ask chocolate aficionados. They will direct those seeking the best chocolates to the popular Mrs. Cavanaugh's Candies.
