Set near Salt Lake City, RED DAYS, the searing new play from Utah writer Rachel Bublitz, may sound like another entry in a long line of dystopian visions, but the climate forecast here isn't vague or distant. Instead, it's already happening.
In a story determined to find hope and perseverance in a precarious status quo, RED DAYS follows high school athlete Dianna and her overbearing coach, who is also her mother, as they attempt life-as-usual. There are gritty practices, first loves, and summer internships, but as conditions worsen and designer masks can do only so much, Dianna must face the reality of her adolescence in Utah: the air is already killing her, and she and her generation must do everything possible to reverse the current trends.
Inspired by the already toxic air and chronic health conditions hovering over Utah, RED DAYS tells a local climate story that deserves global attention. New York audiences need only recall Canadian wildfires to remember that red can be both a warning and the color of our precious, threatened air.

This year’s public engagement has centered independent artists and how to support them. To close out the season, MCC invites back Diep Tran, Editor-in-Chief of Playbill, to moderate a community forum discussing The State of the Theater. Diep is joined by Randi Berry, Executive Director of IndieSpace, and Nicole Johnson, Founder of The Harriet Tubman Effect.
This conversation aims to address the realities that theatermakers face in this moment and uplift opportunities and calls to action for the future of the field. Join MCC as they celebrate community and imagine the roadmap for the work ahead.
Doors open at 5:30pm and the community forum will begin at 5:45pm with refreshments and networking immediately following the conversation.

11) Brooklyn Children’s Museum & WQXR Present Classical Kids Fair on Sunday, June 2, 2024
The celebration will feature live performances, an instrument petting zoo, arts and crafts, and dance workshops
On Sunday, June 2, New York’s Classical Music Station WQXR 105.9 FM and wqxr.org return to Brooklyn Children’s Museum for the Classical Kids Fair, a day of performances, dance workshops, arts and crafts, and more. Participating partners include The Knights, Brooklyn Conservatory of Music, New York Philharmonic’s Very Young Composers Program, flutist and composer Emi Ferguson, and Dancers of the Met Opera ballet.
The Classical Kids Fair will feature performances by members of The Knights and the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music’s Brownstone Brass. The Conservatory also will host an instrument “petting zoo” where kids can get up close with violins, flutes, trumpets, and other instruments.
Families can also participate in a variety of workshops including composition with teaching artists from the New York Philharmonic's Very Young Composers Program; dance with members of the Met Opera ballet, and a special reading with flutist Emi Ferguson from her new book, Iconic Composers.

The full rundown of events for Pride at the Cathedral will include:
· Pride Eve, A Pilgrimage to Pride, Hosted by the Greedy Peasant (Friday, May 31 at 7 pm) – This Pride Eve will kick off on May 31 at 7 pm, featuring crafts, cocktail hour, a thrilling 40-minute performance by the artist Greedy Peasant, and the lighting of the iconic Pride Lights. All are welcome for this special occasion with monochromatic fanciful dress encouraged. The suggested ticket price is $75, with options to pay more or less, and can be purchased here. Proceeds from the event will go to supporting the Cathedral’s free programming for the rest of the month.
· Queer Redemption Book Launch: The Rev. Dr. Charlie Bell in Conversation with Dean Patrick Malloy (Thursday, June 6 at 6 pm) – Join Rev. Dr. Charlie Bell, Forensic Psychiatry Registrar, and priest in the Diocese of Southwark, as he discusses his new book, Queer Redemption: How Queerness Changes Everything We Thought We Knew About Christianity, in conversation with Dean Patrick Malloy from 6 pm to 7:30 pm in the Cathedral House. · Intergenerational Book Talk and Panel, Featuring Author Chloe Davis and SAGE USA & Sunset Silent Disco (Monday, June 10 at 6 pm and 7 pm) – With the release of her new book, The Queens' English, The Young Readers' LGBTQIA+ Dictionary of Lingo and Colloquial Phrases, author Chloe Davis will present a book talk to readers of all ages at The Cathedral School at 6 pm on the LGBTQIA+ community’s myriad contributions to language. Also joining the conversation will be representatives from SAGE USA—an activist organization dedicated to providing advocacy, services, and support to older members of the LGBTQIA+ community—to add historical context. Then, from 7 pm to 8 pm, stay for the Silent Disco and dance to hit songs from over the decades beneath the setting sun! Guests can reserve their free tickets here.
· Cathedral Pride Sunday (Sunday, June 23) – In addition to the Holy Eucharist and CCC Soup Kitchen, the Cathedral is excited to host several events for a full day of Pride.
Drag Story Hour (12 pm) – Local drag artists will join The Cathedral School for a special story time hour, sing-along, and craft session appropriate for parents and children ages 3-8 years old. Limited seating is available. All attendees are encouraged to register for the free event here.
Pride Family Picnic & Performance by the Queer Big Apple Corps (1 pm to 3:30 pm) – Bring the whole family to the Cathedral Gardens for a picnic on the peaceful Pulpit Green on the grounds, followed by a lively performance by the Queer Big Apple Corps Marching Band at 2 pm. All are welcome to picnic in the Cathedral Gardens and enjoy an afternoon of community and musical joy. Pride Choral Evensong (4 pm) – Following a fun-filled afternoon, return to the Cathedral to experience a breathtaking Evensong service featuring LGBTQIA+ composers and vocals by the Cathedral Community Choir. Visitors are welcome to listen and sing.

Arbor (2023), which premiered in November, dwells on the intimacy of trees. In voluminous costumes meticulously painted with tree limbs (by textile artist Gina Nagy Burns and costume designer Mary Jo Mecca), the dancers spiral, billow, and encircle one another in gusts of action resembling timelapses of tree motion. As Karen Hildebrand, writing for Fjord Review, describes the dance: “When [the performers] opened and closed their arms, the effect was of beating insect wings—or the pulse of a growing tree.”
Wind Rose (2019), the ensemble’s signature Loïe Fuller-inspired work, renders changing atmospheric patterns palpable to sight, sound, and touch. “[T]he extent of its power can be hypnotic.” (Erica Digman, World Policy Institute).
The program also includes a rare reprisal of Sperling’s solo Clair de lune (2005) evoking the shimmer of a moonlit sky. Philip Sandstrom, writing for Dance Insider, called it “a masterful work of resplendent yet restrained evocation of the supernatural.”
All of these works feature transformative costumes that abstract the essence of human movement into elemental and organic forces, with the dancers variously appearing to conjure a growing forest or hovering storm clouds. The company's unique style of movement draws inspiration from and furthers the art form created by dance icon Loïe Fuller (1862-1928) a century ago. Lighting is by Bessie-Award-winning designer David Ferri.
Following the performance, gala ticket holders will be treated to an evening of sparkling wine and conversation with the artists, Time Lapse Dance fans, and members of the Ethical NYC community. Light dinner fare will be served at this cocktail-style event.

Little Island today recently announced that an annual, four-month-long summer season of world premieres, kicking off June 1, will feature a total of nine newly commissioned pieces. Little Island’s new arts program moves towards the future with a commitment to a multi-year roster of original work, all commissioned by and developed at Little Island. Bookended by the premiere of legendary choreographer Twyla Tharp’s newest full-length piece, titled How Long Blues, and a 90-minute remix of Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro in which outré opera diva Anthony Roth Costanzo sings every leading role, the season will offer premieres of varying scales across all areas of performance – including music, dance, theater, opera, comedy, jazz, pop, and funk, all outdoors and directly sited on the Hudson River at 14th Street in New York City. The Amph, the park’s 700-seat amphitheater, will house larger scale performances at a $25 ticket price, while The Glade, the park’s 200-seat venue, will be home to more intimate works, all of which will be completely free to the public.

The Nai-Ni Chen Dance Company announces its 2024 Summer Intensive — two weeks of dance, one session per week, held at the Center for Creativity and Dance (Joyce East), 287 E. 10th Street, NYC.
The first session will be from Monday, June 17 to Friday, June 21, 2024 from 3:30pm to 6:30pm in Studio 4, and the second session will be from Monday, June 24 to Friday, June 28, 2024 from 1:00pm to 4:00pm in Studio 1. Each session will offer two classes: (1) Kinetic Spiral for movement coordination, technique improvement and (2) Dancing with Props to further develop the dancer’s expression of technique. For these sessions, Nai-Ni Chen Dance Company is looking for dancers who not only have strong modern, contemporary, and ballet techniques, but also for dancers who have a diverse range of skills, openness to new ideas, strong commitment, and dedication to the art form.
After the Summer Intensive sessions, the Company will hold auditions on June 29 and 30th for dancers for the 2025 season. THE “BE YOU” PRIDE MARCH
The Pride March will form and organize at 6th and Walnut at 10:30am and end in the Philadelphia Gayborhood. The Annual Philadelphia Gay News Pride Brunch and Stonewall Awards Ceremony will convene at 11:00am at the Arts Ballroom and brunch attendees will exit to join the "BE YOU" Pride Festival.
The final route for the march is being finalized and will be shared in a future update. The march will be an open invitation to the LGBTQ+ community and allies, with no registration needed. While floats and vehicles will not be permitted, everyone is welcome to join before the march starts for speeches, music, and joy. Please join the Galaei Pride 365 “BE YOU” March through Philadelphia, whether with a group or organization aligned with Galaei’s mission, with friends and family, or solo.
The march is an ode to The Reminder Day Demonstrations that were held in front of Independence Hall on Chestnut Street from 1965 until 1969 to raise awareness of bigotry, prejudice, and discrimination toward the LGBTQ+ community and to send the message that “Gay is good.” The 1972 Pride Day March concluded at the same spot 50 years ago.
The march will kick-off with speeches from community leaders and guests and a land acknowledgment from the Lenape Tribe. Then, the march will proceed to the festival. Philly Pride 365 is adding to its legacy and some length to last year's record breaking Pride Flag. Along the way, look for the giant 400 feet long record-breaking pride flag increased from last year's record breaking 200 feet, to be unveiled with help from dozens of community members and volunteers. This is the largest pride flag in Philadelphia history and aims to set the record for the biggest pride flag in Pennsylvania. The flag was custom designed for Galaei and made in Pennsylvania.
THE “BE YOU” PRIDE FESTIVAL
Philly Pride 365 a program of Galaei brings together some of the city's top LGBTQ+ organizers to produce a dynamic festival - and one of the single largest outdoor festivals of the year in Philadelphia.
Philadelphia Pride Festival will return 12:00pm to 7:00pm with an expanded footprint, making it one of the largest footprints ever for the city's top pride event. The new footprint will spread out and expand across the Gayborhood from Walnut to Pine streets, and Quince to Juniper streets. This will allow additional Gayborhood favorite businesses that were not considered "in the festival grounds" to now officially participate - including Philly AIDS Thrift @ Giovanni's Room and Mixto, for example. There will be other select roads closed within the festival footprint, with all final street closures, maps and more coming closer to the event date.
The festival will feature over 200 small businesses that Philly Pride 365 has employed an equitable funding model to procure. In addition there will be stages with performances, entertainers, artists, vendors, food trucks, community organizations, and local bars.

The South Street Seaport Museum’s annual Summer Launch celebration will take place on Tuesday, May 28, 2024 at 12pm on Pier 16 (Fulton and South Streets). Join U.S. Congressman Dan Goldman (NY-10) and others for remarks and the ceremonial ringing of the 1908 lightship Ambrose bell to mark the start of the 2024 Sailing Season of the Museum’s historic 1885 schooner Pioneer and the 1930 tugboat W.O. Statue City Cruises, the official and only authorized concessioner for ferry service to the Statue of Liberty National Monument and Ellis Island on behalf of the National Park Service, announced today extended operating hours to the Statue of Liberty National Monument and Ellis Island National Museum of Immigration beginning Memorial Day weekend in anticipation of the busiest summer yet and the longest hours of operation since before the pandemic.
Statue City Cruises also announced the launch of a brand-new app available in iOS and Android to enhance the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island experience with features available in more than 20 different languages. Guests can purchase tickets directly through the app, see maps and directions for both islands from start to finish with an enhanced wayfinding feature, receive service alerts, see wait times at security and also see peak and off-peak travel times to help guests make the most of their experience. This co-production between Teatro Grattacielo, Camerata Bardi International Academy and the Light Opera of NJ showcases a cast exclusively made up of emerging talents. Camerata Bardi International Academy 2024’s young artists will own the stage to give life to eccentric characters in this reinterpretation of the Italian comic opera Elisir d’Amore, in which saturated colors will resonate with rose infused patterns to visually empower Donizetti’s delightful music. The production’s creative team features Conductor Maestro Jason Tramm, Director Stefanos Koroneos, Choreographer Anna Laura Miszerak, Set Designer David Santiago, Lightning Designer Amara McNeil, Projections Designer Chara Spathi . The cast showcases young artists Pedro Barrera, Victoria McGrath, Megan Dobbs, Tiernan Chase, Maia Gonzalez, Yoonji Kim, Henry Hyunsoon Kim, Bryan McClary, Logan Dooley, Natasha Scheuble, Nicole Silva, Valia Karagiorga, Elizabeth Barsalou, Taylor Consiglio.
