The Oki Dog was an actual inexpensive all-night fast-food restaurant in Los Angeles that was a hangout for punks, musicians, teenage runaways, and more. The play, The Last Night of the Oki Dog imagines the final night of the eatery and gives us a look at some of the lost souls who hung out there. The play doesn't really break any new ground in that the characters all feel like familiar types that we've seen before. Yet, we are still drawn into their lives, and we still can't help feeling sorry for them and their sad pathetic lives. However, what we do learn about them isn't enough. The play leaves us wanting to know more. Both more about what led them to this place and what happens to them after. This little glimpse we are given doesn't seem like enough. Yet, it is enough to make us care and make us want to know more.
And that's our view. Tune in tomorrow for Tips for Tuesday.
