I started this blog with one daughter, kept it up with the other, to spend time together doing something we enjoyed.
However, things change and people evolve. My daughters are older, busier, and not as interested in writing.
From now on this blog will be mostly mom with occasional contributions from my daughters and maybe even my husband.
Nothing else will change. We'll still focus on sharing fun places to go, fun things to do, and more, and we would  still love to hear your views too

3) WORLD PREMIERE SITE-SPECIFIC PRODUCTION

BACK & FORTH

TO PLAY CENTRAL PARK’S EAST MEADOW

FEATURING TWO ACTORS AND A GAME OF CATCH
AUDIENCES TO LISTEN IN ON HEADPHONES FROM ANY VANTAGE POINT
PERFORMANCES BEGIN OCTOBER 7
OPENING NIGHT SET FOR OCTOBER 10

Super Secret Arts is proud to present the world premiere site-specific production Back & Forth, a new play written by Richard Hollman, which will be performed in Central Park’s East Meadow, hidden among your everyday park-goes. Featuring two actors, two gloves, a baseball, and an audience equipped with headphones to observe and eavesdrop at their leisure, Back & Forth will play its game of catch over three weekends this fall, beginning Thursday, October 7, with an official Opening Night on Sunday, October 10.

It’s just a conversation until you catch on. Back & Forth is the story of two old friends reuniting for the first time since a forced period of extended social isolation (yes, that period of social isolation) and discovering that despite having felt basically immobile for the past 18 months, quite a lot has changed.

Audience members will receive an email 24 hours before their performance telling them where to enter the park and how to recognize the house manager, who will advise them on how to tune in to the show and where they may want to sit, though ultimately the audience will decide how they want to observe this particular game of catch.

The show will play the following schedule: Thursday, October 7 – Sunday, October 10, at 5:30pm; Thursday, October 14 – Sunday, October 17, at 5:30pm; and Thursday, October 21 – Sunday, October 24 at 5:00pm.

For tickets, priced at $25, and more information, please visit SuperSecretArts.com.

Oceanic Currents: Indigenous Pacific Island Movement Artists
October 13, 2021 at 6 p.m. ET | Online Only

Weaving together womanist, queer/trans, and progressive Indigenous Pacific movement artists in New York City and the diaspora, this gathering seeks to strengthen internal and external community ties, and further Native dance futures.

Intersectional Pacific Islander choreographers and dancers, cultural practitioners and critics, artists and activists, will engage in conversation about the multiple current and historical challenges facing Oceanian movement makers and their larger creative communities. Through talk story and sharings of their movement practices, the moderators, presenters, and discussants will share aspects of their solo and collaborative artistry, and discuss how to create shared spaces of joy, innovation, mutual support, and resistance.

Surviving the economic and health challenges of disproportionate impacts of a multi-year coronavirus pandemic, ongoing and intensified intersectional violence and oppression, environmental assaults and challenges to Native sovereignty, and colonial conservative settler political systems, Indigenous Pacific movement artists remain resilient, mobile, and active continuers of sovereign movements.

Re-entering With Care: A Community Town Hall
October 27, 2021 at 6 p.m. ET | Online Only
Part town hall, part community conversation, this event unpacks what it might mean to “re-enter” the dance field as the NYC dance community begins to resume in-person performances. While the onset of the pandemic marked an abrupt and jarring halt to movement practices, returning to the studio does not have to happen similarly. Curated by the Dance/NYC Junior Committee and using tools drawn from both within the Committee and from Junebug Productions’ “Story Circle” methodology, this event offers ‘redefined practices’ to return to the studio while taking care of physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing.

16) Third Rail Projects continues
RETURN THE MOON
Extended through October 24, 2021

Third Rail Projects (Then She Fell, Ghostlight, The Grand Paradise) has extended their acclaimed World Premiere of RETURN THE MOON, conceived and directed by Zach Morris and created by Alberto Denis, Kristin Dwyer, Joshua Gonzales, Sean Hagerty, Justin Lynch, Zach Morris, Marissa Nielsen-Pincus, Tara O’Con, and Edward Rice. Performances are now on sale through October 24, live via Zoom.

RETURN THE MOON is a live performance created specifically for the Zoom platform which invites audience members to collectively construct a shared experience that is one part toast, one part ritual, and one part retelling of a very old story of how the Moon was lost and found again.  Matching decidedly analog tools of performance with the unique opportunities that the Zoom platform affords, RETURN THE MOON combines text, movement, cinematic visuals, and music. It also enfolds offerings from audience members to create a rumination on remembrance and recurrence, the interplay of shadow and light, and how a shared experience might linger and reverberate over the passage of time. The work also features an epistolary component; after the performance, every audience member is mailed a package that contains content and interactive artifacts from their shared event.

RETURN THE MOON runs one hour fifteen minutes for 60 audience members per performance. During the show, audience members are invited, but not obligated, to contribute guided input that shapes how the work unfolds. This experience is designed with audience comfort in mind and affords a range of opportunities where guests can choose if and when they wish to contribute.

RETURN THE MOON runs August 11- October 24, performance dates vary. Three ticket tiers are available: General admission at $42, Pay-it-Forward at $67, Subsidized at $15. The Pay-it-Forward tickets support Subsidized tickets. For tickets and info visit, www.thirdrailprojects.com/return-the-moon.

THE ALBUM MARKS THE FINAL STUDIO RECORDING IN

TONY BENNETT’S LEGENDARY CAREER

SPANNING EIGHT UNFORGETTABLE DECADES

Cole Porter, the iconic Broadway songwriter who came to personify the wit and sophistication synonymous with New York, is celebrated by two of the world’s greatest vocalists with Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett’s album of his music, Love For Sale. Today, the full and highly anticipated collaborative album was released via Columbia/Interscope Records. This album will be the final studio recording of Bennett’s legendary career spanning an astonishing eight decades, and is the culmination of Bennett and Gaga's ten-year recording history.

Cole Porter was born in Peru, Indiana in 1891 and died in Hollywood 73 years later. In between he wrote some of the most memorable songs ever heard on stage or screen. During the 1930’s, his most productive decade, he provided a series of sparkling scores for such hits as Gay DivorceAnything GoesJubileeBorn to Dance; and Red, Hot and Blue. He achieved his greatest commercial success in 1948 with Kiss Me, Kate. His name remains synonymous with wit and sophistication to this day.

The Cole Porter Trusts commented, “Representing the masterworks of Cole Porter’s legacy is both a supreme honor and an enormous responsibility. It requires the utmost dedication to both protecting Cole’s artistic vision and ensuring his music will continue to be listened to and loved by future generations.  Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga singing and celebrating Cole’s music on their new album, Love For Sale, provide a perfect example of how to achieve those lofty goals in a way we are very proud to support.”
