I started this blog with one daughter, kept it up with the other, to spend time together doing something we enjoyed.
However, things change and people evolve. My daughters are older, busier, and not as interested in writing.
From now on this blog will be mostly mom with occasional contributions from my daughters and maybe even my husband.
Nothing else will change. We'll still focus on sharing fun places to go, fun things to do, and more, and we would  still love to hear your views too

2) FIRST THREE EPISODES OF “BEDLAM: THE SERIES” TO PREMIERE on BEDLAM TV NOVEMBER 1

WATCH THE TRAILER HERE

AN EPISODIC SHAKESPEAREAN TV SERIES

BEDLAM (Eric Tucker, Artistic Director; Sarah Bellin, Managing Director) will release the first three episodes of BEDLAM: THE SERIES, an episodic Shakespearean TV Series, on November 1, 2021 for purchase on BEDLAM TV. Written by Eric Tucker & Musa Gurnis and directed by Eric Tucker, “BEDLAM: The Series” twists Shakespearean characters and plots we know and love – King LearThe Merry Wives of WindsorThe Merchant of Venice – into a new story of love, deceit, betrayal, and revenge. More The Sopranos than doublet and hose, in “BEDLAM: THE SERIES” you’ll find family drama, organized crime, and romantic comedy stewed together and told in Shakespeare’s own delicious words. This first mini season enters you into this fractious, delightful world where everything may not be exactly as it seems – but it is BEDLAM.

BEDLAM continues their pursuit of revisiting and reinvigorating the Classics with this exciting new platform and by presenting these texts in a way that is more representative of the world in which we live. THE SERIES is both innovative and experimental, engaging a diversity of BIPOC artists across all departments.

Synopsis:

Small time crime boss Linda “King" Lear is sick. Her attempt to retire early is a debacle that devolves into a bloody family fight for control of Windsor City. Suddenly forced to retire, Lear splits up the business among her three children, expecting them to take turns caring for her during chemo. But her two oldest daughters, Goneril and Regan, are out for themselves. Lear disowns her youngest, favorite kid, Cordeel, who runs off with a dashing rival crime lord named France. Meanwhile, Lear’s top lieutenants are both having family troubles of their own. Frank Ford is sure his wife Alice is stepping out on him with an off-brand Keith Richards, Lear’s drinking buddy Falstaff. George Page's daughter Anne is sneaking around with a scumbag called Oswald, and his bastard son Edmund is trying to screw his legitimate brother Edgar out of his inheritance. The rest is BEDLAM.

4) THE BROADWAY ADVOCACY COALITION

ANNOUNCES SECOND YEAR OF

BAC ARTIVISM FELLOWSHIP

The Fellowship Is Designed to Support Emerging Artist Activists

The Broadway Advocacy Coalition (BAC) announces the second annual BAC Artivism Fellowship to support artist activists using their tools to have an impact on the world around them.

This year’s theme is Reimagining Justice through Abolition and will support Black, Indigenous, Latinx, Asian, and other artists of Color focused on criminal justice reform through use of narrative storytelling and artistry.

Embedded with BAC’s Theater of Change methodology, the fellowship will enable participants to blend artistry, law, policy, and community engagement, and produce final projects with the potential to create powerful impact in policy spaces where change can happen. Through the process, all the participants will work with community members to amplify the power of their stories informed by legal and policy research.

The fellowship will support eight people over the course of four months and will culminate in a digital presentation of their work. Members of the Nomination Committee include Ariana Asfar (Hamilton), Tony nominee Chalia LaTour (Slave Play), Bianca Laverne Jones (Ocean’s Eight), Rad Pereira (“High Maintenance”) and Black Lives Matter founder and activist DeRay Mckesson. Additional members will be announced at a later date.

“By centering the work of artists of color, we are able to look through a mirror and see how limited our freedom is,” said Artistic Director Chesray Dolpha “The work of the artivist is to bring art and activism into the same space. Where we can hold our pain and struggle, but also envision the healing and restoration that is possible when our stories and art are held with love. This fellowship welcomes this community of artivists because we at BAC understand that this work allows us all to reimagine what justice looks, sounds and feels like.”

Applications are open to any story or narrative centered artist based in the United States.

Applications are due Thursday, November 25th, 2021 and can be found here.

                            9)

ODD MAN OUT, (www.OddManOutNYC.com), a LIVE immersive experience in complete darkness, will play The Flea Theater (20 Thomas Street between Broadway and Church Street), it was announced today by producer PITCHBLACK Immersive Experiences. Written by Martín Bondone and directed by Bondone, Carlos Armesto, and Facundo BogarínODD MAN OUT begins performances on November 3 for a limited engagement through December 4. Opening night is set for November 9.

ODD MAN OUT is a LIVE immersive audio play in darkness. It begins when “passengers” enter the theater by their flight attendant. Passengers put on their headphones and their blindfolds. From there, the story allows listeners to immerse themselves in the tale of Alberto, a blind musician flying home from New York to Buenos Aires, Argentina after decades of self-exile. As listeners enter Alberto’s story of love, prejudice and fears that were left behind, they experience a 360-surround sound, multi-sensory “journey.”

Because passengers are blindfolded through the entire duration of the flight, the action can be experienced by way of auditory stimulation, tactile objects and enriched smells. Passengers will even feel weather happening around them.

This experience engages and awakens the senses, tests limits, and ultimately uses the darkness to bring the audience to a new light.

A portion of the proceeds from the ODD MAN OUT will go to Visions (https://www.visionsvcb.org/), which provides services for the blind and visually impaired.

Tickets for the ODD MAN OUT LIVE immersive experience are $50 with “First Class” VIP seating available for $90. ODD MAN OUT plays at The Flea Theater Tuesday – Friday at 7PM and 9PM and Saturday and Sunday at 3PM, 7PM, and 9PM. There will be an additional performance on Monday, November 8 at 7PM.

All passengers must present proof of vaccination upon arrival. First class passengers receive a VIP reception with refreshments and show inspired or d'oeuvres, advanced entrance to the space (premiere boarding), and a Souvenir box.

present
Edge Class
Wednesdays through December 22, 2021
City Ice Pavilion

Ice Theatre of New York (ITNY) presents Edge Class on Wednesdays at 1:30pm through December 22, 2021 at Sky Rink, Chelsea Piers, NY. The full 10-week session is $150 and drop-in classes are $20. To register, please click here

Taught by ITNY Ensemble Director, Elisa Angeli, the Edge Class allows adult figure skaters to hone their skating skills in a 50-minute session set to music, followed by an additional 15 minutes of free skating. Skaters must be proficient in their forward and backward skating with speed, able to do forward outside/inside three turns, and forward inside mohawks. Classes begin with simple exercises, then moves on to more complex patterns and ensemble skating - “birding” - exercises.

Please note that if you are looking for an instructional class, you may want to take ITNY's Tuesday Edge class by performer, Sarah France, at City Ice Pavilion. Click here for more information.

In the ITNY edge classes, skaters gain a repertory of exercises designed to develop skills necessary for accomplishing the athletic elements of skating. These exercises help create the freedom of ice movement essential to style. The classes focus in-depth on these basics:
•   Grounded knee bend (Plié)
•   Dynamic placement of the free leg
•   Twisting and the use of the arms to shape space
•   Full use of the eyes for balance and style
Through full and proper use of the body, skaters come in contact with their basic strengths and ultimately discover their own unique ice personalities.

In accordance with Key to NYC rules, everyone twelve years old and older are required to show identification and proof of vaccination upon entry to Sky Rink and remain masked in all common areas, including on the ice.

12) Third Rail Projects continues
RETURN THE MOON
Extended again -- through December 11, 2021

Once again, Third Rail Projects (Then She Fell, Ghostlight, The Grand Paradise) has extended their critically acclaimed, wildly popular immersive meditation RETURN THE MOON, conceived and directed by Zach Morris and created by Alberto Denis, Kristin Dwyer, Joshua Gonzales, Sean Hagerty, Justin Lynch, Zach Morris, Marissa Nielsen-Pincus, Tara O’Con, and Edward Rice. Performances are now on sale through December 11, live via Zoom.

RETURN THE MOON is a live performance that invites audience members to collectively construct a shared experience that is part toast, part ritual, and part retelling of a very old story of how the Moon was lost and found again.  Matching decidedly analog tools of performance with the unique opportunities that the Zoom platform affords, RETURN THE MOON combines text, movement, cinematic visuals, and music. It also enfolds offerings from audience members to create a rumination on remembrance and recurrence, the interplay of shadow and light, and how a shared experience might linger and reverberate over the passage of time. The work also features an epistolary component; after the performance, every audience member is mailed a package that contains content and interactive artifacts from their shared event.

RETURN THE MOON runs one hour fifteen minutes for up to 60 audience members per performance. During the show, audience members are invited, but not obligated, to contribute guided input that shapes how the work unfolds. This experience is designed with audience comfort in mind and affords a range of opportunities where guests can choose if and when they wish to contribute.

RETURN THE MOON runs August 11- December 11, performance dates vary. Three ticket tiers are available: General admission at $42, Pay-it-Forward at $67, Subsidized at $15. The Pay-it-Forward tickets support Subsidized tickets. For tickets and info visit, www.thirdrailprojects.com/return-the-moon.

18) TAMMANY HALL
A New Downtown, Site Specific, Immersive Theater Experience

Rub shoulders with some of New York’s legendary politicians, mobsters, molls, and showgirls under the very roof that brought them all together during the Prohibition Era. Tammany Hall, a new, site-specific, immersive theater experience created and directed by Darren Lee Cole (FleabagKiller Joe) and Alexander Wright (The Great Gatsby, the UK’s longest running immersive show), is now playing at New York’s historic SoHo Playhouse (aka The Huron Club, 15 Vandam Street, NYC). Opening night is Election Night, Tuesday, November 2.

Tammany Hall takes us back 92 years to Election Night, November 2, 1929 for an up-close look at the corruption, scandal, romances and intrigue that brought New York’s most notorious political machine crashing down. While awaiting the results of the night’s big mayoral race, audiences engage with 15 different rooms at one of New York’s historic Jazz Age hotspots. Jimmy Walker, Fiorello LaGuardia, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Legs Diamond, Betty Compton, Marion “Kiki” Roberts are just a few of the names and faces you’ll hear and see. Audiences observe their political machinations in the club room, spy on their trysts in the penthouse suite, peek in at Follies rehearsals on stage, and maybe even knock back a libation or two while conspiring with henchman and government spies in the underground speakeasy.

With all of these colorful characters roaming the halls, the venue itself is central to the story. For nearly two centuries, Tammany Hall was the behemoth political machine of New York’s Democratic Party. Though headquartered in Union Square, the Society of St. Tammany maintained a “clubhouse” in each of Manhattan’s electoral districts. Today, the façade of SoHo Playhouse is still marked as The Huron Club, Tammany’s presence in New York’s First Ward. Built in 1826 on property John Jacob Astor purchased from Aaron Burr, the building was reconfigured to its current layout 1920. The meeting hall on the main floor was transformed into a theater, with a notorious clubhouse above, and a speakeasy below. It is rumored that Jimmy Walker and Betty Compton kept their love nest in the 4th floor penthouse.

Tammany Hall is now playing at SoHo Playhouse (aka The Huron Club, 15 Vandam Street, NYC). Opening night is Tuesday, November 2 at 7PM. Running time: 90 minutes. Tickets are available through OvationTix.comSoHoPlayhouse.com or at the Box Office Tuesday - Sunday after 4PM. Discounts will be made available for groups, students, and seniors.

REGULAR SCHEDULE & PRICING: Beginning Nov. 3, Tammany Hall plays Wednesday – Friday at 7PM and 9PM; Saturday at 3PM, 7PM, and 9PM; and Sunday at 5PM and 7PM. Tickets are $89.

SOHO PLAYHOUSE COVID-19 POLICY: Guests will need to be fully vaccinated with an FDA or WHO authorized vaccine to attend a show and show proof of vaccination at their time of entry into the theatre with their valid ticket. “Fully vaccinated” means the performance date must be at least 14 days after the second dose of a two-dose COVID-19 vaccine, or at least 14 days after a single-dose COVID-19 vaccine. Mask use will be required per current CDC guidelines. For more information, please visit: SohoPlayhouse.com.
