I started this blog with one daughter, kept it up with the other, to spend time together doing something we enjoyed.
However, things change and people evolve. My daughters are older, busier, and not as interested in writing.
From now on this blog will be mostly mom with occasional contributions from my daughters and maybe even my husband.
Nothing else will change. We'll still focus on sharing fun places to go, fun things to do, and more, and we would  still love to hear your views too

Where-To-Go Wednesday: Poster House

We were given complimentary tickets to Poster House for review purposes. Any and all opinions expressed here are our own.

What: Poster House

Where: 119 W. 23rd St.
            New York, New York

Who: All ages

Me - Poster House was unique. I have never seen or heard of a museum completed devoted to posters before. Some of the posters were very colorful and pretty. Some were kind of strange though. I was hoping they would have more theater and/or movie posters, but when we were there it was mostly just propaganda posters. They did have some posters from Lincoln Center productions though. My favorite thing about the museum was that you could design your own virtual poster. That was fun. We did several of them. The only bad part about it was you couldn't print it out or e-mail it to yourself. I would visit the Poster House again if they had an exhibit, I could relate to better.

Mom - Poster House is a fairly new museum located in New York City. It opened in June of 2019 and is dedicated to the art of posters. It is the first museum of its kind in the United States.

Poster House has a series of rotating exhibits. Each exhibit is given a rating which determines how appropriate for children it is. Some exhibits are not appropriate for children due to nudity, inappropriate imagery, and references among other things. However, these exhibits are located behind closed doors.

There are some areas of the museum that are appropriate for children including some exhibits. There is also a fun interactive area where you can create your own virtual posters as well as an area specifically for children in which old payphones have been adapted so that children can push a number and listen to a sound. There is a different sound for each number. I am not quite sure what that has to do with posters but it is an activity small children would probably enjoy.

There are also family-friendly tours and art-making activities. Those occur on the last Sunday of the month from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Normally, there are tours for adults as well, but they are currently not running due to the pandemic. Private tours can still be arranged, however.

There is also a cafe located within the museum. You can visit the cafe without purchasing a ticket to the museum. However, a mask must be worn at all times while in the cafe area as well as while visiting the museum.

Poster House is open Thursday through Sunday only from 10:00 AM through 6:00 PM. Timed tickets must be purchased in order to visit the museum. They can be purchased in advance online and can be purchased onsite as well depending on availability.

And that's our view. For more information about Poster House or to order tickets, visit posterhouse.org.

Tune in tomorrow for Theater Thursday.
