Books: The Stolen Sisters and Dogma
Today we are recommending The Stolen Sisters by Louise Jensen. This is an extremely exciting psychological thriller. Three young girls are kidnapped and years later they are all still dealing with the ramifications of what happened as new and more shocking details of the case continue to be revealed. If you like a book full of surprises, you will definitely enjoy this one. It is like a speeding train starting out slow, then quickly gaining momentum and speed in the way that the book begins at an extremely slow kind of boring pace but before you know it the pace picks up and shocking twist after shocking twist is quickly revealed. Every time you think, there could not be a more surprising twist to the story another even more incredible bit of information is revealed. It will shock you, it will horrify you, but you won't be able to put it down.
Today we are talking about Dogma by the Editors of Mango Media. This is another book combining words to live by with pictures of adorable animals. This one has lessons quoted straight from the bible. Accordingly, although the religious overtones may be offputting for some people, the majority of the advice is still good no matter what religion you follow or even if you don't follow any. Besides, the pictures of dogs on every page are precious especially if you are a big animal lover. Whether you are in it for the scripture or you just like looking at the cute dog pictures or both, this is a book you will probably enjoy.
Movies: 13 Minutes
Today we are recommending13 Minutes, a film about the effects of Tornado on small town and its inhabitants. This is not a prettied up Hollywood version of disaster but a more realistic version than has probably ever been seen before on screen. In fact one of the producers of the film is actually a certified storm chaser.
The film builds slowly as it takes almost half the movie to establish the characters. However, from then on in, its both nonstop and extremely heartwrenching appealing to those who prefer films that are action packed and those that prefer films that are more emotional. The characters are more realistic than in most films as of this type as well. They are not all likeable even after the disaster. We like to think that the worst of times brings out the best in people, but sometimes it doesn't. They are still plenty of characters worth rooting for though.
Both the plot and the characters even the unlikeable characters are interesting enough to really draw you into the story. The realism of the film can be a bit much for some people, however, especially if you are particularly squeamish. Still, if you don't mind that we would definitely recommend this film both for its entertainment value and its unflinching look at a what it is really like to live through a tornado, just one of the many types of natural disasters that have likely been increased and intensified by Global Warming.
And that's our view. Tune in tomorrow for Where-To-Go Wednesday.
