When Change Comes: A Movement Forward, formerly called Standard Time, will welcome special Broadway guest stars for performances on September 7 and 8 at Madison Theatre at Molloy College (1000 Hempstead Ave, Rockville Centre, NY).  Tony Award nominee Laura Osnes (Bandstand, Cinderella), and Dan DeLuca (Newsies national tour) will join the company on Friday, September 7, while Adam Kaplan (A Bronx Tale, Newsies) performs on Saturday, September 8.

When Change Comes is a powerful dance musical that asks one question: Can the act of “seeing” each other without judgment or fear break the cycle of intolerance?  Featuring a cast of world-renowned dancers, singers, and musicians, When Change Comes transports audiences through a century of music, movement, and human connection in the shadow of our nation's most defining moments.  Using Mark Stuart Dance Theatre’s explosive brand of storytelling, When Change Comes follows three love stories set against the backdrops of the Great Depression, the Civil Rights Movement, and the LGBTQIA+ Rights Movement.  Danced to hit standards from the 1930’s, 1960’s, and the 2000’s, the show features 7 dancers, 3 vocalists and a 5-piece band.

When Change Comes aims to inspire and empower audiences to create positive change in their communities.  The show’s format includes post-performance discussions that focus on committing small everyday acts of kindness, learning to truly “see” each other, and building empathetic dialogue about equality and tolerance. The tag line, A Movement Forward, exists as a challenge: Can we all turn seemingly small acts of kindness into a tidal wave of positive change?

Celebrating the 100 years of the American Theatre Wing (Heather Hitchens, President & CEO), their centennial book released today, American Theatre Wing, an Oral History: 100 Years, 100 Voices, 100 Million Miracles (Graphic Arts Books; edited by Patrick Pacheco), is a fascinating cornucopia of untold lore and never-before-seen photos as prismatic and unexpected as the theater itself.

In 1943, a wounded soldier aided by a cane limped into the Stage Door Canteen, the American Theatre Wing's fabled New York club created to entertain the allied forces. Two hours later, he was said to have left with a spring in his step--and without the cane. This "miracle" is just one of many recounted in the lavish book.

The other miracles are more commonplace, if no less remarkable, told by the impassioned artists and theater advocates who created and sustained this preeminent theatrical organization, includingAngela Lansbury, Rosie O'Donnell, Patti LuPone, Audra McDonald, Harold Prince, Kenny Leon, Neil Patrick Harris, David Henry Hwang, Harvey Fierstein, and James Corden. MCC THEATER (Robert LuPone, Bernard Telsey, William Cantler, Artistic Directors; Blake West, Executive Director) is pleased to announce the extension by popular demand of the New York Premiere production of Collective Rage: A Play in 5 Betties, written by Jen Silverman, and directed by MCC alum Mike Donahue (The Legend of Georgia McBride at MCC Theater). Previously scheduled for a limited run through September 23, Collective Rage: A Play in 5 Betties will now play through Sunday, October 7 at the Lucille Lortel Theatre (121 Christopher Street). 

Meet five different women named Betty: one rich, one lonely, one charismatic, one lovelorn, and one who keeps working on her truck. Oh, and one has decided to stage a production of that play-within-a-play by… that old English guy, what's his name? Ah, forget it. In Jen Silverman’s unpredictable comedy Collective Rage: A Play in 5 Betties, five women collide at the intersection of rage, love, and the “thea-tah,” provoking each other to take a look in the mirror and face the person they didn’t know they could be. Directed by Mike Donahue (MCC Theater’s The Legend of Georgia McBride), this New York premiere invites us all to be a little braver, live a little louder, laugh a little harder, and unleash our inner Betty.

Inspired by compelling personal recollections from the Oral History Project at the Birmingham Civil Rights Museum, SEPARATE AND EQUAL is a provocative theatrical experience that explores the emotional violence of segregation through basketball. And then there is Sarah Bernhardt.” In 1899, the international stage celebrity set out to tackle her most ambitious role yet: Hamlet. Theresa Rebeck’s new play rollicks with high comedy and human drama, set against the lavish Shakespearean production that could make or break Bernhardt’s career. Janet McTeer, “one of the finest classical actresses of her generation” (The Telegraph), brings the legendary leading lady to life.
