I started this blog with one daughter, kept it up with the other, to spend time together doing something we enjoyed.
However, things change and people evolve. My daughters are older, busier, and not as interested in writing.
From now on this blog will be mostly mom with occasional contributions from my daughters and maybe even my husband.
Nothing else will change. We'll still focus on sharing fun places to go, fun things to do, and more, and we would  still love to hear your views too

1) Anything Goes

All aboard as the talented students of the Academic Theater and Dance Program and Entertainment Technology bring you this toe-tapping musical. When the S.S. American heads out to sea, two unlikely pairs set off on the course to true love – but sometimes destiny needs a little help from a crew of singing sailors, a comical disguise, and some good old-fashioned blackmail. This classic musical has been updated with a fantastic new book (2022), but still features Cole Porter’s most joyful score, including “I Get A Kick Out of You,” “You’re the Top,” and, of course, the show-stopping title song. After more disguises, ploys, confessions, mistaken identities, and marriage proposals - all done to toe tapping music-how will everything work out? Who knows? Anything goes!

2) Carrie

With book by Lawrence D. Cohen (screenwriter of the classic 1976 film), lyrics by Dean Pitchford, and music by Michael Gore, Carrie: the Musical, brings Stephen King’s novel to the stage. Carrie White is a teenage outcast who longs to fit in. At school, she's bullied by the popular crowd, and virtually invisible to everyone else. At home, she's dominated by her loving but cruelly controlling mother. What none of them know is that Carrie's just discovered she's got a special power, and if pushed too far, she's not afraid to use it. Stephen King’s 1974 debut novel Carrie sold over a million copies in its first year of publication. The classic 1976 film adaptation, directed by Brian De Palma, became a critical and box office smash, and earned two Academy Award nominations – for Sissy Spacek as Carrie and Piper Laurie as Margaret White.

6) The Last Laugh

Dying is easy, comedy is hard.

Three of Britain’s all-time greatest comedy heroes – Tommy Cooper, Eric Morecambe, and Bob Monkhouse – walk into a dressing room and ponder what it means to be funny… really funny!

The Last Laugh imagines a meeting between a trio of legendary comedians: Cooper, beloved for his magic tricks that didn’t work; Morecambe, whose double act is the focus of the 2003 Broadway hit The Play What I Wrote; and Monkhouse, renowned for his witty remarks as a game show host.

This laugh-a-minute show is a side-splitting and poignant love letter to the golden age of television comedy and its lasting impression on the entertainment world.

9) Of Ashes and Souls

Nine bodies. One haunted house. No escape. On the midnight of the Chinese Ghost Festival, nine influencers step into an infamous haunted house on East Mountain Island, hoping to exploit its bloody past for views. But when the clock strikes twelve, the signal cuts out, gas leaks, tapes rewind, and bodies collapse—only for their memory to reset, trapping them in an endless cycle of horror. A cursed calendar. A sunken boat. A missing gun. The spirits are waking, whispering of unfinished wills, and someone who never left. As the full moon fades, they have one last chance. Can they catch the echoes of the ashes and souls before everything is lost?

2025 - Power to the Poets

A Showcase of Hip-Hop’s Political Force and the Art of Spoken Word Featuring Performances by Nejma Nefertiti, Okai, and Sincerity Garcia with DJ Reborn, April 25 & 26

Word. Sound. Power 2025—Power to the Poets

Featuring Nejma Nefertiti, Okai, and Sincerity Garcia

Directed and hosted by MC Baba Israel

With DJ Reborn

Hip-hop and poetry have long been a battleground for truth, resistance, and revolution. Now, as the world faces another defining moment, BAM’s Word. Sound. Power. returns to uplift the voices that challenge, disrupt, and inspire, featuring an incredible lineup of hip-hop artists: Nejma Nefertiti, Okai, and Sincerity Garcia.

Word. Sound. Power 2025—Power to the Poets channels the power, raw energy, and spirit of the late ‘80s and ‘90s—a time when artists like Public EnemyQueen Latifah, and KRS-One revolutionized hip-hop with fearless storytelling. A new generation of artist-activists takes the stage to continue that legacy—raising voices, dropping bars, and shaking the system with words.

Expect moments of raw, spontaneous cypher sessions and innovative narrative interludes that challenge the status quo and amplify the voices of the unheard. More than a performance, Word. Sound. Power. is a call to raise our voices, confront injustice, and celebrate the enduring impact of hip-hop’s poetic tradition.

For tickets, visit: www.CindyOfArc.com

Back at the newly re-opened Laurie Beechman Theater in NYC by popular demand, the “brilliant and blistering” Cindy of Arc continues its monthly residency with their next performance scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 22, 2025.

Finalist for the 2023 Richard Rodgers Award for Musical Theater, the VERY timely celebrated comedy rock extravaganza by playwright and performer Cynthia Kaplan is about the problem men have with lying and where that's gotten the rest of us. Particularly women. And Jews. Cindy of Arc is directed by Emmy-Winning writer and Tony-nominated producer Dani Davis, who directs a cast of four, including Cynthia Kaplan with Scott Stein, Dan Barman, and Zachary Larson/Julian Maile. Cindy of Arc will be staged at the Laurie Beechman Theatre, 407 West 42nd Street in NYC.

Why are there no Jews in Whoville? What is a scold’s bridle? What is the song Delta Dawn really about? Should we rethink Dr. Deborah Birx? Why is the Holy Ghost a ghost? In this brand new work of comedy and music, your guide, Cindy of Arc, will answer these and other pressing questions, taking you through an abridged history of the lies men tell in such popular areas as religion, politics, sex, and, of course, songwriting. Think American Utopia but with Nazis, expletives, cannibals, dogs, no David Byrne, and no Utopia. And no choreographer. And no money. And it’s a comedy. And we wear shoes. But otherwise, very similar.

General admission tickets start at $25, plus a $25 food/drink minimum. For tickets, visit https://www.cindyofarc.com/  Direct ticketing link.

The runtime is 65 minutes, no intermission.

20) NEW DOCUMENTARY FILM,

“CARLO ACUTIS: ROADMAP TO REALITY,”

COMING FROM FATHOM ENTERTAINMENT
TO THEATRES NATIONWIDE APRIL 27-29

Documentary premiere comes to theatres the same day

as Carlo Acutis is made a saint by the Catholic Church

Castletown Media, in association with Jim Wahlberg, is thrilled to announce a partnership with Fathom Entertainment, the leading specialty distributor of content to theatrical partners worldwide, to bring the documentary film, Carlo Acutis: Roadmap to Reality, to theatres nationwide for a special limited release from April 27 - 29, 2025. The release date  coincides with Pope Francis’ canonization of Carlo Acutis, the Catholic Church’s first millennial saint, on April 27.

The highly anticipated documentary explores the life and legacy of the soon-to-be Saint Carlo Acutis and how he navigated the modern world. It tackles urgent technology-related questions, examining how the virtual landscape threatens our fundamental understanding of what it means to be human. The film also tracks the journey of a group of high school students who embark on a two-week pilgrimage from North Dakota to Italy to visit Carlo’s tomb. A requirement for their pilgrimage: disengage from technology and leave their phones at home.

Carlo Acutis features Carlo’s family and friends sharing their firsthand experiences and his impact on their lives. The documentary film also features well-known voices in the Catholic Church and technology experts who offer a model for young people to engage in the digital world. Is it beneficial to highlight a few of the more known, respected people in the film?

In a world losing itself to screens, teenage mystic Carlo Acutis saw beyond the social media-addicted society we live in and offered an answer… if we're willing to listen.

For more information about the film and to be the first to know when tickets go on sale, please visit CarloAcutisFilm.com or FathomEntertainment.com.

Twyla Tharp’s irresistible Nine Sinatra Songs (1982) is an escape into a glamorous world of seven couples, tracing the arc of their relationships to the music of Frank Sinatra. Celebrated for its combination of technical precision and emotional depth, this work by the legendary Tharp captures the essence of romance and nostalgia. More than 40 years after its debut, The New York Times hails it “as something rare: an American masterpiece.” Set to Sinatra’s jazz-pop hits such as “All the Way,” “That’s Life,” and “Strangers in the Night,” Nine Sinatra Songs “seems to celebrate the glorious hope of connecting, and its impossibility.”

New Jersey Ballet presents the world premiere of New Ancient Strings, the second ballet by choreographer Harrison Ball for the company. Featuring costumes designed by Gap Inc. Creative Director Zac Posen and lighting by Brandon Stirling Baker, the ballet showcases a dynamic cast of 19 dancers performing to the evocative music of Toumani Diabaté and Ballaké Sissoko. Blending contemporary innovation with classical refinement, New Ancient Strings explores movement through the intricate rhythms and rich textures of Diabaté and Sissoko’s compositions. This collaboration brings together creative voices in dance, fashion, and stage design.

Maritime City Exhibition

$5–$18 | Wednesday–Sunday | 11am–5pm | 213 Water Street

The Seaport Museum’s latest exhibition Maritime City, highlights how New York City, as we know it today, arose from the sea. Throughout the extensive three-floor exhibition, 540 deliberately-selected objects from the collections and archives of the Seaport Museum are on view to underscore how the city’s identity as a global capital of culture and finance is rooted in its origins as a seaport.

As you walk through the exhibition, you will discover how the waterways, people, and industries of the Greater New York area—including all the boroughs, Long Island, and the Lower Hudson Valley—led to the creation of a truly diverse city. By sharing the material culture of New York and its people, the objects on display highlight stories of the working class people employed by ships, shipping lines, and other local industries throughout history, as well as the emigrant workers and immigrant families that came through the port as their first stop in America.

In Maritime City, you will experience a celebration of communities that have come together to grow New York. For four centuries, the port of New York has connected people to the world through the exchange of goods, ideas, languages, and cultures. Indigenous Lenape people were the first stewards of the waterways, creating trade routes connecting Manahatta to the sea. In the 17th-century European colonists, enslaved Africans, and migrants built on this foundation to give birth to a restless and ambitious city. Later waves of immigration, would grow a world capital formed by its oceanic links to the world. Just as the history of New York is woven from many stories, Maritime City employs artifacts to present a tapestry of a global metropolis shaped by the sea. The South Street Seaport Museum interprets these origins, a museum for a maritime city.

Access to Maritime City is included in museum admission tickets. Advance registration to guarantee your space is encouraged. seaportmuseum.org/maritime-city

More About the Exhibition

Housed within the historic A.A. Thomson & Co. building—a historical artifact in its own right—Maritime City showcases a wide range of objects from the Museum’s collections of 80,000 works of art, historical artifacts, and archival records representing a wide range of time periods, themes, and materials. Objects on view include long-held artifacts and archival materials not previously seen by the public, alongside recent acquisitions that highlight the present and future of the Museum’s collecting. With such a wide array of items on view, this all-ages exhibition promises something for everyone.

Highlights within this expansive exhibition include:

●           The 22-foot long 1935 builder model of the celebrated ocean liner RMS Queen Mary

●           Paintings by the renowned maritime painters James Edward Buttersworth, Antonio Jacobsen, and Gordon Grant

●           Unusually large turn-of-the-century glass plate negatives by the photography studio of George P. Hall & Son—including one of the fireworks display for the opening of the Williamsburg Bridge

Also on view are examples of archeology that has been excavated from areas in the South Street Seaport Historic District and Lower Manhattan, and historical and modern views of New York from the 1600s to today. These include artworks that document milestones in New York history such as the physical expansion of the land in Lower Manhattan at the turn of the 19th century, the opening of the Brooklyn Bridge in 1883, the dedication of the Statue of Liberty in 1886, and the containerization of the Port of New York and New Jersey in the mid-20th century. Just as the history of New York is a combination of stories, Maritime Cityemploys artifacts to highlight the historic mosaic of a global metropolis born from its connections to the sea.

Additionally, Maritime City features educational items that invite you to get hands-on with history. Across all three floors, visitors of all ages are invited to further engage with the exhibition through interactive features designed to captivate every interest to better understand how New York City was formed by its oceanic links to the world.

Visitors are invited to:

●           Open flat file drawers to uncover historical arts and crafts techniques, including technical drawings and ship plans, letterpress broadsides, lithographs, and wood engravings and discover the tools used to create these fascinating pieces

●           Touch and feel select artifacts such as Dutch-era bricks and oyster shells from the teaching collection of the Museum
