I started this blog with one daughter, kept it up with the other, to spend time together doing something we enjoyed.
However, things change and people evolve. My daughters are older, busier, and not as interested in writing.
From now on this blog will be mostly mom with occasional contributions from my daughters and maybe even my husband.
Nothing else will change. We'll still focus on sharing fun places to go, fun things to do, and more, and we would  still love to hear your views too

More Theater Monday - Macbeth in Stride

We were given complimentary tickets to Macbeth in Stride for review purposes. Any and all opinions expressed here are our own.

What: Macbeth in Stride

Where: BAM Harvey Theater
             651 Fulton St.
             New York, NY

Who: Recommended for Ages 13 and Up

When: Through April 27, 2025

Macbeth in Stride is about how women's stories are marginalized and told through the lens of the White male power structure. This is exemplified through the story of Shakespeare's Lady Macbeth. Although this is true of all women, the show particularly emphasizes the plight of Black women, especially Black Queer women, who have the triple whammy of being a part of all three of those marginalized groups at once.

It is not so much a linear show as a theatrical event full of songs of various styles, including pop, gospel, and R&B. There is also a lot of direct addressing of the audience, and they are very much part of the procedure.

Whitney White stars in and wrote the show. She also occasionally plays the keyboard in the show. The extremely talented multi-hyphenate is also an experienced and in-demand theater director, although she did not direct this show. She is joined by a three-person female choir, who stand in for Macbeth's witches, one male actor who stands in for Macbeth, and a band.

The show really makes you think about how women are presented in stories, particularly in Shakespeare's plays. It emphasizes the need to take back their power and tell their own stories.
