Where: Gilette Castle State Park
67 River Rd.
East Haddam, CT
Who: All ages
The Gillette Castle visitor's center is a museum in and of itself. Here you can view a film on the man and his castle. You can learn about his acting career including his iconic turn as Sherlock Holmes. You can also view a variety of interesting objects on display including a replica of the castle, a bust of Gillette as Sherlock Holmes, and the engine and several cars from the train that used to travel around the property when Gillette owned it.
Although a stop at the visitor's center is a great addition to a trip to the castle, you don't have to visit the castle to stop in to the visitor center. The castle is only open at certain times of the year and requires a fee for entry. The visitor center, however, is free and open daily all year long.
And that's our view. For more about Gillette Castle or to schedule a visit, go to www.gillettecastlefriends.org.or portal.ct.gov/DEEP/State-Parks/Parks/Gillette-Castle-State-Park
Tune in tomorrow for Theater Thursday.
