2) Ryan Conarro's SAINTS OF FAILURE to Play Limited Run at Lafayette Ave Presbyterian Church
Interdisciplinary artist Ryan Conarro (ALAXSXA | ALASKA, this hour forward) will premiere his work Saints of Failure as a site-specific production inside Lafayette Ave Presbyterian Church (85 South Oxford St, Fort Greene, Brooklyn) with additional dates through November 9, 2019. Weaving storytelling, rich soundscape, and live makeup transformations, Conarro shares a series of histories and memories to explore deep questions about LGBTQ identity and the American Christian experience and what ensues when these identities collide.
Conarro tackles these questions with humorous and brutally honest anecdotes while painting his body with direction from makeup designer and performance coach Risha Rox (Random Acts of Flyness, The Paris Project), an interdisciplinary artist working in the mediums of painting, performance installation and sculpture. The show began as an immersive performance installation in residency at Goddard College’s Interdisciplinary Arts Program, presented at the Fort Worden State Park Pitkin Gallery, in Port Townsend, WA. This was followed by a development residency at Gainesville Theatre Alliance Guest Artist Program in Gainesville, GA, a performance and artist talk at Claflin University’s Arts & Letters Annual Bash in Orangeburg, SC, and a workshop presentation at Dixon Place's HOT! Festival of Queer Culture.

The Central Park Conservancy presents the 2019 Halloween Pumpkin Flotilla! The popular annual event is free and will feature lots of kid-friendly activities such as pumpkin carving, arts & crafts, spooky storytelling, a costume parade, a festive pumpkin patch, and the event’s signature Pumpkin Flotilla, which sets sail across the Harlem Meer at twilight. Bring a Jack-o’-lantern: Pumpkins must weigh about 8 pounds after it’s carved (approximately the size of a soccer ball). Mini or extra-large pumpkins will not be accepted for the flotilla.
Get creative: All pumpkins must come with tops and be gutted and carved prior to the event. Jack-o’-lanterns with artificial decorations, such as paint, glitter, marker, food dye, paper, plastic, light bulbs, candles, or floats will not be accepted for the flotilla. A light and floating device will be provided when you register your jack-o’-lantern at the event.
Drop off your jack-o’-lantern: We will have a designated drop-off area near the Dana Discovery Center from 4:00 p.m. to 5:45 pm. The flotilla is limited to 50 jack-o’-lanterns and is first come, first served. Please make sure your creation meets all the requirements.
Watch the Harlem Meer get spooky! Once the activities are finished at twilight (about 6:30 p.m.), find a spot along the edge of the Harlem Meer and watch as the jack-o’-lanterns float by in New York City’s largest pumpkin flotilla!

Baritone Christian Gerhaher and pianist Gerold Huber have a 30-year partnership that began in their schooldays. Since then, the pair have devoted themselves to lied interpretation through performances, recordings and by teaching. This lyrical evening moves from the disenchanted wanderer of Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen (“Songs of a Wayfarer”) to selected folkloric poetry settings of Des Knaben Wunderhorn (“The Boy’s Magic Horn”), concluding with the eternally poignant Kindertotenlieder. Together, Gerhaher and Huber have recorded the Schubert, Schumann, and Mahler cycles for Sony Music, as well as a new recording of Schubert’s Die schöne Müllerin that was released in autumn 2017. The duo’s third Schumann CD, also including the Kerner Songs, was released in autumn 2018. Gerhaher portrayed Jesus in Peter Sellars’s much-acclaimed St. Matthew Passion featured in the 2014 White Light Festival. This concert is also part of Lincoln Center’s Great Performers.

As violence blazes, a young woman waits at the border of Zauberland—a magical world of security and peace. But when she sleeps, her dreams are haunted by images of the burnt-out city that she was forced to abandon. Celebrating Broadway’s legendary Cole Porter, The York Theatre Company (James Morgan, Producing Artistic Director; Evans Haile, Executive Director), dedicated to the development of new musicals and rediscovery of musical gems from the past, continues their 50th Anniversary Season with its acclaimed Musicals in Mufti series celebrating the legendary Broadway composer. The series honors the illustrious songwriter behind such classics as Anything Goes, Kiss Me, Kate, Gay Divorce, Silk Stockings, Red, Hot and Blue, and Can-Can.
Closing out the 2019 Fall Mufti series is the 1940’s hit musical Panama Hattie, with music and lyrics by Cole Porter and book by Herbert Fields and B.G. DeSylva. Cole Porter and Ethel Merman teamed up for their fourth hit with 1940's Panama Hattie, in which a brassy nightclub owner must bid for the approval of her fiancé’s family—a task only made more complicated when she discovers a plan to blow up the Panama Canal. With a raucous book about sailors and singers in the Panama Canal Zone and a snappy Porter score that includes “Let’s Be Buddies,” “I've Still Got My Health,” and “Make It Another Old-Fashioned, Please,” Panama Hattie was a smash in its day; Brooks Atkinson in The New York Times stated, “if the Navy ever hears about Panama Hattie, it will be hard to keep the fleet in the Pacific. As far as that goes, it is going to be hard to keep New Yorkers at home in the evenings this winter." Performances begin Saturday afternoon, October 26, 2019 and will continue for 11 performances only through November 3, 2019 at The York Theatre Company at Saint Peter’s (entrance on East 54th Street, just east of Lexington Avenue). Opening Night is Sunday evening, October 27, 2019 at 7:00 p.m.
Panama Hattie will play the following 11-performance schedule— First Week: Saturday at 2:30 p.m. & 8:00 p.m., Sunday at 2:30 & 7:00 p.m.; Second Week: Wednesday at 7:00 p.m., Thursday at 2:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., Friday at 8:00 p.m., Saturday at 2:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. and Sunday at 2:30 p.m.

Utah Lyric Opera, in association with Thunder Media Group, will present the New York Premiere of An Enchanted April, a new musical based on the novel The Enchanted April, by Elizabeth von Arnim, with book and lyrics by Elizabeth Hansen, music & lyrics by C. Michael Perry and directed by Alice Jankell in a limited engagement (November 1-16) at Theatre Two at Theatre Row (410 West 42nd Street)
An Enchanted April begins in London...during a particularly dreary February in 1922. Four world-weary women, desperate to escape their memories of WWI and the repression of London, dare to rent a villa in Italy for a month. Miraculously, in just one short Enchanted April, the lives and hearts of these women are transformed by wisteria, sunshine, a small medieval castle...and each other.

Amas Musical Theatre (Donna Trinkoff, Artistic Producer) will present Missing Person, a play with music starring Susan Campanaro composed by Lynn Portas with book by Ms. Campanaro for one performances only Saturday, November 2 at 8pm at A.R.T. /New York Theatres (502 West 53rd Street – 10th Avenue & 53rd Street) as part of its recently announced “Dare to Be Different” series.
Missing Person is the boozy tale of Lavinia Draper, fallen socialite and one-time Broadway understudy of Betty Buckley, who is eternally chasing her boozy dream of becoming an entertainer. The story begins with Lavinia waking up from a black out in a holding cell in South Florida on a public intoxication, drunken disorderly charge. This is a cautionary tale of a woman whose dreams have repeatedly been deferred by self-inflicted victimization and a sabotaging addiction to drama. She finds herself once again trapped by her own dysfunction, but this time she is actually missing a real opportunity to finally prove herself as an entertainer.
