In a time when every place from Amazon to Starbucks seems to want to unionize, this true story about workers at the Disney Studio in the 1940s going on strike and unionizing is extremely timely. Although the name Walt Disney tends to conjure up warm family feelings, this show certainly presents another more negative side of the man. On the one hand, the studio was losing money on its most recent pictures at the time. On the other, his female employees were fainting on the lawn from lack of nutrition, and he was not above giving them a slight promotion to keep them from joining the picket line. The story is interesting but the presentation is drab with barely any set or lighting. Also, at times it moves along rather slowly and the ending is kind of abrupt. However, for all its flaws, the show does a nice job of fairly representing both sides of the labor dispute.
And that's our view. Tune in tomorrow for this week's Sunday Scoop.
