I started this blog with one daughter, kept it up with the other, to spend time together doing something we enjoyed.
However, things change and people evolve. My daughters are older, busier, and not as interested in writing.
From now on this blog will be mostly mom with occasional contributions from my daughters and maybe even my husband.
Nothing else will change. We'll still focus on sharing fun places to go, fun things to do, and more, and we would  still love to hear your views too

Where-To-Go Wednesday - Staten Island Ferryhawks

What:
Staten Island Ferryhawks

Where: Staten Island University Hospital Community Park
            75 Richmond Terrace
            Staten Island, NY

Who: All ages

When: Last home game of the season September 18, 2022

Me: It is fun to go to a Staten Island Ferryhawks game. The view from the stadium is really pretty. The stadium is pretty small, and it's easy to get there. The food is okay. It was kind of hard to read the scoreboard. Also, because they only have one scoreboard, they don't have the game stats up the whole time. That makes it hard to keep track of things like what inning and how many balls and strikes there are, and who scored in which inning.

My favorite thing about the Ferryhawks is that they have a girl on their team. Her name is Kelsie Whitmore. She pitches and plays left field. We saw her play left field. She got one hit in two at-bats, and then, they took her out of the game. I don't know why they took her out. I liked it better when she was in the game. I hope to have the opportunity to go to a Ferryhawks game again soon especially to see Kelsie Whitmore. However, I probably won't get to this this year because it's too late in the season. I hope she's still with the team next year.

Mom - The former home of the Staten Island Yankees is now the home of the independent league Staten Island Ferryhawks. They are part of the Atlantic League of Professional baseball. This is the same league that the Somerset Patriots were a part of prior to becoming an affiliate of the New York Yankees. Independent leagues are ranked in the same way that Major league-affiliated leagues are ranked and the Atlantic League is equivalent to Triple-A which is the highest level of the Minor Leagues. Other teams in the Atlantic League include the Long Island Ducks and the York Revolution among others.

One of the nice things about the Ferryhawks is that aside from the usual ways to access the stadium, it is also easily accessible by the Staten Island Ferry. Riding on the Ferry is free, and the Ferry landing is only a short walk from the stadium. The stadium's nearness to the water also provides a beautiful view of Manhattan as a backdrop when you are sitting in the stadium.

Food and between-innings entertainment are pretty much equivalent to what you would find at most other Minor or Independent League Stadiums. However, an extra added attraction of attending a Ferryhawks game is that they actually have a female on the roster. Her name is Kelsie Whitmore, and she is a fan favorite. If you have a young daughter, and you want to show her that girls can truly do anything you are definitely going to want to take her to a game here if you can. Unfortunately, there is not much more time to attend a game this season as the season ends this Sunday, September 18, and the Ferryhawks will have their final home game of the season on that date.

And that's our view. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit ferryhawks.com.

Tune in tomorrow for Theater Thursday.
