What: Manhattan by Sail Cruises
Where: North Cove Marina at Brookfield Place
250 Vesey St.
New York, NY
Who: All ages
Manhattan by Sail offers a variety of different cruises on their two ships, the Clipper City Tall Ship and the Schooner Shearwater. The former sails out of Pier 35/36 and the latter sails out of North Cove Marina. We recently had the opportunity to sail on the Schooner Shearwater on one of its daytime sails. If you are looking for a nice slow relaxing cruise around New York Harbor, you may enjoy this particular cruise. If you are looking to get a close-up look at the Statue of Liberty, then you will probably be disappointed. You will definitely be able to see it, but you will never get that close to it. While only Statue Cruises go right up to Liberty Island, there are other cruises that do get closer to the Statue than the Shearwater.
This is also not a very informative cruise where you learn things about what you see or New York Harbor history or anything else. In fact, the crew did not provide any information at all about anything during the entire cruise. This does not mean you will not get to see anything on this cruise, however. You will see plenty of sites as you sail along. They just won't be explained at all. On the other hand, if you are just looking for a nice leisurely cruise and the opportunity to spend time with your friends and/or family out on the water then this may be the perfect cruise for you.
And that's our view. For more information about Manhattan by Sail Cruises or to book one, visit www.manhattanbysail.com.
Tune in tomorrow for Theater Thursday.
