I started this blog with one daughter, kept it up with the other, to spend time together doing something we enjoyed.
However, things change and people evolve. My daughters are older, busier, and not as interested in writing.
From now on this blog will be mostly mom with occasional contributions from my daughters and maybe even my husband.
Nothing else will change. We'll still focus on sharing fun places to go, fun things to do, and more, and we would  still love to hear your views too

Theater Thursday - Hadestown

We were given free tickets to Hadestown for review purposes. Any and all opinions expresssed here are our own.

What: Hadestown

Where: Walter Kerr Theatre
             219 W. 48th St.
             New York, NY

Who: Recommended for Ages 16 and Up

Me - Hadestown was a good show. It was very unique. The plot follows the story of Orpheus and Eurydice from Greek Mythology. It also involves the story of Hades and Peresphone although it doesn't really delve far into that. Personally, I wasn't very invested in the love story since the characters were just instantly in love,  and there was no development of the relationship. The acting was real great as was the singing. Of all the performers, Eva Noblezada who plays Eurydice stood out to me the most. I was in awe of her incredible talent throughout the entire show. There were a few really pretty songs in the show, but  none of the music real stuck in my head. One aspect of the show that I enjoyed was the costumes. Persephone's dress was my favorite. Over all, if your looking for an interesting show or your a fan of mythology, I would recommend Hadestown.*

Mom - Hadestown is a completely original show based on Greek Mythology. The book, music and lyrics of the musical were all written by the talented Anais Mitchell based on her album of the same name. Because of Ms. Mitchell's musical background the show has a different kind of sound than anything else on Broadway. It is a kind of jazz tinged folk music that draws you in right from the opening number. The acting is general good all around. Reeve Carney and Eva Noblezada make an adorable couple as the doomed Orpheus and Eurydice although their romance happens much too fast and is over way to soon. Patrick Page and Amber Gray sizzle as Hades and Persephone. Her Our Lady of the Undeground number which opens the second act is powerhouse tour de force. If you want to see the show that is likely to win this year's Tony for Best Musical, this is the one.

And that's our view. Tune in Sunday for this week's Sunday Scoop.

  1. I really like seeing the places you go, and the fact that you offer a couple of views. I like mythology so might enjoy this. In Maine, there are not very many theaters to attend, there are a couple near me and I have only attended a couple of shows that interested me but both were good.
