Books: Now That's Funny and Saving Meghan
Mom - Today I am recommending Now That's Funny The Art and Craft of Writing Comedy by Peter Desberg and Jeffrey Davis. This book is a primer on comedy writing for television and movies. The authors started by coming up with a basic premise for a fictional TV show. Then, they gave that premise to a variety of the best comedy writers and comedy writing teams all of whom have worked on a a number of different well known TV series. The way each writer or set of writer's responded to the task provides great insight into their writing process and how they approach the craft of writing. Although there is no one right way to write comedy as this book proves, if you are interested in writing comedy this book is an important resource. It gives you the opportunity to get inside the minds of the best in the business and find out how they hone their craft. Even if you do not care about writing comedy, but you just really enjoy great comedy, it is still a really interesting and illuminating book.
Mom - Today I am also recommending Saving Meghan by D.J. Palmer. Becky's daughter, Meghan is very sick or so her mother, Becky seems to think. Becky would do anything to find out what is wrong with her daughter and save her. However, not everyone seems to agree that Meghan is really sick or if she is what is causing her illness. You won't know who to believe and who to trust in this fast paced thriller. Reading it is like riding on an out of control train barrelling down the track. Even when you think, you know where it is going, you probably don't.
Movies: Dumbo
Me - Today I am recommending Dumbo. Dumbo is a sweet movie. The character of Dumbo is really cute. His big eyes and big ears are adorable. The plot of the movie which involves two children trying to reunite the baby elephant with his mother is both interesting and touching. There are a few parts of the movie that may be a bit scary for very young children like when Dumbo is separated from his mother. However, over all, I think it is very good movie for the whole family. I only saw the original Dumbo cartoon once, and it was long time ago so I can't rarely compare them. However, this movie is definitely a great movie to see no matter if you saw the cartoon or not and no matter how old you are.
And that's our view. Tune in tomorrow for Where-To-Go Wednesday.
