I started this blog with one daughter, kept it up with the other, to spend time together doing something we enjoyed.
However, things change and people evolve. My daughters are older, busier, and not as interested in writing.
From now on this blog will be mostly mom with occasional contributions from my daughters and maybe even my husband.
Nothing else will change. We'll still focus on sharing fun places to go, fun things to do, and more, and we would  still love to hear your views too

Bengal to Berlin The Musical is purported to be the true story of Indian physicist, Satyendra Bose and his collaboration with Albert Einstein. However, in reality, that is only a small portion of the story, and there is so much more going on in this show aside from that. Important topics covered include imperialism, the treatment of women, and clashes between different religions, to name just a few. While these are all important topics, it feels like too much to cram into one show.

The most interesting character in the show is Bose's feisty, ahead-of-her-time wife. However, it was revealed in a talkback that much of her character was made up by the playwright. This takes away from both the character and the show. While there will always be made-up elements even in allegedly true stories, it seems unfair to the audience to completely make up a real person's character, especially one that the audience is likely to feel a particular affinity for.

At times, the music feels intrusive, as if a song suddenly breaks out in moments that don't necessarily feel like they call for music.  Some of the songs are quite nice, however.. The highlight of the songs and of the show itself is the final number, which is particularly stirring.

And that's our view. Bengal to Berlin The Musical was part of the Broadway Bound Festival which concluded yesterday, August 17.

Tune in tomorrow for Tips for Tuesday.
