I started this blog with one daughter, kept it up with the other, to spend time together doing something we enjoyed.
However, things change and people evolve. My daughters are older, busier, and not as interested in writing.
From now on this blog will be mostly mom with occasional contributions from my daughters and maybe even my husband.
Nothing else will change. We'll still focus on sharing fun places to go, fun things to do, and more, and we would  still love to hear your views too

Tips for Tuesday - Books: On the Plus Side & Only in New York 36 Big Apple Stories Spanning 55 Years and Five Boroughs & Movie: Heightened

We may have been given complimentary copies and/or access for review purposes to any books, products, and/or any other visual or audio media mentioned below. Any and all opinions expressed here are our own.

Books: On the Plus Side & Only in New York

Today we are recommending On the Plus Side by Jenny L. Howe. Although this book revolves around the story of a plus-size woman, Everly who goes on a reality makeover show refreshingly the show is not about losing weight. Rather it is about being one's best self without changing one's physical characteristics. It is such a lovely original spin on the topic. Both the book and its smart capable, good-hearted heroine are quite inspirational. Anyone who ever thought they were less than or let other people make them think they were less than because of their looks particularly their size needs to read this book!

Today we are recommending Only in New York Big Apple Stories Spanning 55 Years and Five Boroughs by M.G. Crisci. Although we have previously reviewed Only in New York Volumes 2 and 3, this is actually the first book in the trilogy. As with those books, this book is full of amusing stories about life in New York. This time they include stories about a bat boy at Yankee Stadium learning how to game the system and make more money, a once-in-a-lifetime Meat Loaf concert in the middle of a snowstorm, and an encounter with Raging Bull, Jake LaMotta. For the most part, the stories are lighthearted, amusing, and fun as in the previous volumes. However, some are quite poignant including the story of a man who nobody seemed to care about except the owner of the cafe he frequented. All in all, though the book is a quick and entertaining read.

Movie: Heightened

Today we are recommending Heightened. Heightened is the story of a woman with sensory issues who suffers a mental breakdown and as part of her therapy is forced to take a job working with a park ranger who has issues of his own. The two main characters in this movie are each so wonderfully real and flawed. It is beautiful the way they complement each other and help each other through their issues. The story is cute, sweet, and romantic but at the same time, it has a seriousness to it. It reminds us how everyone is working through their own issues and how hard that can be in a world that expects us to be perfect all the time.

And that's our view. Tune in tomorrow for Where-To-Go Wednesday.
