4) A Very Blue Christmas
Everyone's favorite holiday ham, Lady Bunny gives her trademark potty-mouthed parody treatment to over 30 Christmas classics that will leave you disgusted and howling with laughter. LADY BUNNY: A VERY BLUE CHRISTMAS includes “Rudolpho The Uncut Reindeer,” "It's Beginning to Look Apocalyptic," a naughty holiday tribute to Laugh-In, her version of "'Twas The Night Before Xmas" that zings many a Drag Race queen, and a sleigh full of truly disgusting jokes. Come see why the New York Times calls Bunny “the city’s reigning drag queen” and Vogue says she “represents the heart of what drag is all about.” While her incorrigible routine may be rooted in the gutter, Lady Bunny’s quick-witted humor is authentic, smart, irreverent, and topical. But remember: Bunny's act is often offensive, so don't buy a ticket if you don't like twisted humor!

5) Filthy Lucre: A Burlesque Christmas Carol
Welcome to The Filthy Lucre, where the cover charge is exorbitant, the drinks are watered down, and management steals the performers' tips. What sort of money-grubbing miser would run a "Gentleman's Club" like this? Who else but Scrooge? And so she does, in FILTHY LUCRE: A Burlesque Christmas Carol, a stripteasing twist on Dickens' classic holiday tale. When the scantily-clad spirit of her former business partner returns from the grave, the "nudest Scrooge in history" (NY Times) goes on a tassel-twirling journey with the Ghosts of Burlesque Past, Present, and Future. Will this haunting bump-and-grind-through-time help bitter Ebeneza see the error of her exploitative ways? Of course, it will. You know the story, but you've never seen it quite like this.

8) Unconfined
Can a young man guilty of a terrible crime rehabilitate himself in spite of an incarceration system bent on de-humanizing him?
UNCONFINED is based on the true story of a man who spent 18 years on death row, during which he developed into an artist and spiritual practitioner. What unspools is a very personal story, told from multiple viewpoints, of how he changed the lives of the people around him in ways they could never have anticipated. In this monodrama, the central figure remains unseen but is reflected in each of the three characters that Liz Richardson portrays: a painter, a professor, and another prisoner.

18) Taisho Roman: Fever Dreams of the Great Rectitude
Six Fantastical and Horror Films from a Bygone Age
December 9-16, 2023
Featuring Rare Screenings of
Toshio Matsumoto’s Final Feature Dogra Magra,
plus International Premiere of Zigeunerweisen 4K Restoration
Japan Society is pleased to announce Taisho Roman: Fever Dreams of the Great Rectitude, a six-film series running December 9-16. This exclusive two-week event will bring together premiere and rarely-seen screenings of Japanese films from the 1920s to the 1980s all focused on dreamlike and nightmarish depictions of the Taisho era (1912-1926), Japan’s own “Roaring ‘20s”.
From horror to cult classics, to provocative arthouse films, Taisho Roman is the first time this selection of films from some of Japan’s most radical filmmakers will be presented together. And from the International Premiere of a new 4K Restoration to ultra-rare 35mm prints imported from Japan, Taisho Roman is your only chance to see these spellbinding tales. This is a can’t miss event for NYC cinephiles exclusively presented at Japan Society (333 East 47th Street).
Coined in reflective terms, “Taisho Roman” (short for romanticism) brings a nostalgia for the libertine pre-war era that preceded the militaristic Showa period and its imperialist displays.

20) LimĂłn Dance Company
presents
Women's Stories
featuring the World Premiere of I Must Be Circumstanced,
Hilla Ben Ari's reimagination of LimĂłn's The Moor's Pavane
December 7-9, 2023 at 8pm at New York Live Arts
LimĂłn Dance Company (LDC) presents Women's Stories from Thu-Sat, Dec 7-9, 2023 at 8pm at New York Live Arts, 219 W. 19th Street, NYC. Tickets are $45 ($25 for students and seniors) and are available here.
For three nights only, the LimĂłn Dance Company offers Women's Stories, a program that centers the female perspective and highlights the women who shaped the company’s canon. The night includes the World Premiere of I Must Be Circumstanced, Hilla Ben Ari's reimagination of LimĂłn's The Moor's Pavane, a startling new take on a classic, incorporates arresting video projections and focuses exclusively on the female characters of Othello. Featuring all female casts, the program shares some of JosĂ© Limon’s most acclaimed works: Orfeo, Dances for Isadora, as well as an excerpt from The Winged. JosĂ© LimĂłn Dance Foundation dedicates these performances in honor of former LimĂłn dancer, the late Jennifer Muller.
Dancers: Natalie Clevenger, Mariah Gravelin, Deepa Liegel, Frances Samson, Savannah Spratt, Jessica Sgambelluri and Lauren Twomley.
Hilla Ben Ari’s I Must Be Circumstanced (World Premiere)
The intergenerational conversation across disciplines characterizes Hilla Ben Ari's latest projects, where she corresponded with the works of artists that were active in a variety of fields such as theatre and dance. In a new project that generates a dialogue with one of the most known works by LimĂłn, The Moor's Pavane (1949), Ben Ari fuses visual art and dance, stillness and motion, in order to challenge and rethink the female body within cultural narratives. LimĂłn’s original creation tells the story of Shakespeare’s tragic Othello through a pavane, a processional dance of the 16th- and 17th-century European aristocracy. Similar to Shakespeare’s play, LimĂłn’s piece is told primarily from the perspective of male characters. But here, the work will focus on Emilia and Desdemona, and following the original structure of LimĂłn's quartet, Ben Ari adds two additional characters through recorded video projections. Each of the live dancers on stage will be mirrored and reflected through the figures that appear in video, giving audiences two Desdemonas and two Emilias. Partial support for this work is provided by Artis as well as the New York State Council on the Arts.
One of the last works LimĂłn choreographed in tribute to his late wife Pauline Lawrence LimĂłn, Orfeo dances his lyrical lament of love and loss, calling his beloved Eurydice from the dead. Swathed in veils and protected by her Guardians, she comes and their duet of the love of the souls ensues. The reality of death comes and Eurydice returns to Hades leaving Orfeo once again with his tortuous doubts and hopes. This program will feature a female casting redefining who tells this story of love and loss.
Emotionally and musically rich, Dances for Isadora is a moving tribute to Isabora Duncan and a celebration of the power of women dancing, and of America’s dance legacy. Lushly musical with the Chopin piano music, this wonderfully diverse set of five solos evoke aspects and periods of the life of Isadora Duncan whom LimĂłn regarded as his “dance mother.”
Choreographed by LimĂłn in 1966, The Winged transports audiences to a world of nature that blends with the world of man through movement that resembles the intricate patterns and rhythms of birds in flight. The evening will open with the evocative excerpt, Feast of Harpies.

28) South Street Seaport Museum Celebrates Diwali!
Friday, November 10, 2023, 3-6pm, Free
Celebrate Diwali, the Indian festival of lights, at the South Street Seaport Museum and on Seaport Square on November 10, 2023! Diwali is a Hindu festival of lights, held in the period from October to November. The name is derived from the Sanskrit term dipavali, meaning “row of lights.” The festival generally symbolizes the victory of light over darkness.
From 3–5pm, come aboard the Seaport Museum’s 1885 tall ship Wavertree, where you can make your own decoration inspired by the marigold garlands of Diwali, signifying good fortune and faith in the divine, with a maritime twist. Continue the Seaport Museum’s festivities on Pier 16, where you can decorate your own "diya lamp"—or, in this case, a candle—and then set it afloat in a specially prepared pool to symbolize prosperity in the new year.
In addition to these free all-ages activities and access to the 1885 tall ship Wavertree, the Seaport Museum is offering free general admission to all current exhibitions on view in the introduction gallery space at 12 Fulton Street. Free timed tickets for a tour of the 1908 lightship Ambrose are also available. Pre-registration is encouraged but walk ups will be accommodated as possible. seaportmuseum.org/diwali
From 3–6pm, the celebration expands when our partners at The Culture Tree will host an outdoor dance workshop and performances of the garba and dandiya raas, along with traditional rangoli art activities on Seaport Square on Pier 17. You can also indulge in traditional Indian food available for purchase and enjoy a live DJ and a Diwali-themed photo booth. Advance pre-registration for these activities is available separately at theseaport.nyc.
The celebration is presented in partnership with The Culture Tree and The Howard Hughes Corporation.

Guy Masterson is a British-born UK/US actor of 40 years, three-time Olivier nominee and multi-award-winning producer-director. He made his name performing unique solo adaptations of British Classic literary works, Under Milk Wood and Animal Farm, and stripping them down to their essence, and presenting many like-minded performers from across the world at the Edinburgh Festival. In A Christmas Carol, he brings Dickens’ original performance text alive with nothing but a shabby raincoat and a chair. Guy was the director of the recent Broadway smash The Shark is Broken and is the nephew to the late, legendary actor Richard Burton and cousin to Broadway veteran Kate Burton.
Daniel Cainer is a London-based multi-award-winning songwriter, performer, storyteller, broadcaster, music producer and composer. In extraordinary songs Cainer wrestles with the big ideas: What does it mean to be Jewish? Is there a God or isn’t there? Who invented the bagel? His songs and music are for anyone who has ever wrestled with their home, heritage and heart. All the human condition is here, expertly brought to life with brilliant rhyming and wordplay, great musicianship and haunting tunes.

31) Vangeline Theater/ New York Butoh Institute
in collaboration with Howl! Arts and photographer Javi Alvarez
present
NUE
Thursday, December 7, 2023
at Howl! Arts / Howl! Archive, 250 Bowery Street, 2nd Floor, NYC
Vangeline Theater/New York Butoh Institute has partnered with Howl! Arts / Howl! Archive (HA/HA) and the visionary photographer Javi Alvarez to present an exclusive preview of the photographic project NUE. The opening reception will take place on Thursday, December 7, 2023, 6:30 pm-9 pm at HA/HA, 250 Bowery St., 2nd floor, NYC, with a performance by Vangeline at 7:30 pm.
NUE consists of a series of exquisite artistic nude photographs captured by Javi Alvarez of Butoh artist Vangeline in nature and in the studio. On December 7, 2023, the project will launch with an exclusive selection of large prints on display at HA/HA and remain on display through December 16, 2023. Admission is free.
Vangeline will perform an excerpt of her celebrated solo Eternity 123, which traces the symbolic journey of women's liberation across time. With this piece, Vangeline also celebrates the impact of women on the art form butoh, exploring the link between women, butoh, and “Cabaret.”
NUE derives its name from the French word for nude and refers to the divine. With this collaboration, Alvarez and Vangeline explore the divine feminine prevalent within nature and the female form. With this photographic study, Butoh becomes a conduit for this sensual, ecstatic, and sacred energy.
