Where: 1650 Broadway
New York, NY
Who: All ages
Me - Ellen's Stardust Diner is a diner where the wait staff entertains the guests by singing. They are all aspiring professional performers. It is exciting getting to get to see people who could become future Broadway stars perform. All of the singers we got to hear were very talented.
I thought they would sing more Broadway show tunes, but they also sang a lot of other kinds of songs. I was disappointed about that. I wanted to hear more show tunes. I love show tunes!
The food was just okay. Their macaroni was not good. I usually love macaroni, and I am not that picky about it. The fries and quesadillas were good though. I liked that the quesadillas were really cheesy. On the whole, though, the food was very expensive and not worth the price.
I had always wanted to go to Ellen's Stardust Diner. I am glad I got a chance to go. However, I wouldn't necessarily go back.
Mom - If you're in Midtown Manhattan and you want to be entertained while you eat, you might enjoy Ellen's Stardust Diner. The waist staff at this iconic New York location is made up of aspiring performers who take turns performing while you dine. They do not take reservations, and there can be quite a long line of people waiting to get in. However, the place is quite large and packed with a large number of tables and booths on two levels so the line moves rather quickly.
It doesn't matter where you sit. Some performances take place on each level. There is also a raised stage on the lower level and a low railing on the upper level.
Don't expect to hear nothing but show tunes. There is plenty of that, but there is also a mix of other songs as well. The voices are good. The music is extremely loud so if you are sensitive to noise or interested in being able to converse with your table companions and actually hear each other, you should choose another dining location
The food is expensive and mediocre at best. It's more of a place to go for the entertainment than the food. Plus, there's always a chance you will get to see a future Broadway star or two before they hit it big.
