5) Cindy of Arc
Why are there no Jews in Whoville? What is a scold’s bridle? What is the song
Delta Dawn really about? Should we rethink Dr. Deborah Birx? Why is the Holy Ghost a ghost? In this brand-new work of comedy and music, your guide, Cindy of Arc, will answer these and other pressing questions, taking you through an abridged history of the lies men tell in such popular areas as religion, politics, sex, and, of course, songwriting. Think American Utopia but with Nazis, expletives, cannibals, dogs, no David Byrne, and no Utopia. And no choreographer. And no money. And it’s a comedy. And we wear shoes. But otherwise, very similar.

Assuage (2018) Doug Varone’s Devices Showcase, Agnes Varis Performing Arts Center, NYC
This piece was created as a dramatic duet in which the couple attempts to connect and resolve the physical and emotional obstacles of their relationship. The music drives the movement into a frenetic ending that allows for multiple conclusions. The irony of this work is that the title is never achieved. Lauren Twomley, Ty Graynor.
From Where We Ascend/Wake (2024 Premiere)
In this women's trio we are offered and confronted with choices that lead to utter possibilities that flutter into an ascending moment. Where we shed and expose the uncertain, it's turmoil, while embracing what is exposed and recognizing what is in its wake.

Sokolow Theatre/Dance Ensemble presents JOY: Dances for Midwinter on Thursday, December 12 and Friday, December 13, 2024 at 7pm at Stone Circle Theatre, 59-14 70th Avenue, Ridgewood, New York. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased online at https://sokolowtheatredance.
To bring light to the dark of midwinter, the Sokolow Theatre/Dance Ensemble is preparing a program of soaring dances that manifest joy in deep and nuanced ways. A program of dances by Anna Sokolow, Claudia Gitelman, and Charles Weidman—and a premiere by two company members. Dances from across a 90-year span, and choreography from three traditions of modern dance, speak clearly to us across generations. Bringing these dazzling pieces together on the stage reaffirms our steadfast commitment to the importance of meaningful art.
Sokolow’s "Preludes," reconstructed by Tonia Shimin, for whom it was created, is a rich and expressive homage to the music of Sergei Rachmaninoff.
For “JOY,” the company has expanded its repertory to include works from other modern dance lineages, and invited guest directors expert in those traditions to give the dancers an authentic understanding of the movement and its intent.
