Books: Trouble Island & The ROM-COM Ultimate Trivia Book
Today we are talking about Trouble Island by Sharon Short. This book is about an island where gangsters stop off between the United States and Canada. Aurelia Escalante running from her past is forced to live there and work as a maid to gangster's wife, Rosita McGee. Rosita helped save Aurelia's life unknowingly setting off a tragedy in her own. When Rosita's husband arrives on the island with several other people tensions flair and lives are in danger.
The plot of this novel is quite compelling. The story moves along quickly and is very exciting. There are a lot of surprising twists and turns. The characters are interesting too.
Yet, the characters are not likable people so it's hard to root for any. Even Aurelia has an incident in her past that is hard to forget or forgive. However, the incident is not revealed until quite late in the story. Plus, the ending is kind of a letdown especially if you are a big fan of romance.
Today we are recommending The ROM-COM Ultimate Trivia Book. This is such a fun book. Even if you are not the kind of romantic comedy fan who watches movies until you can practically quote them verbatim, you can still enjoy this delightful book. It is fun to reminisce about these movies and try to remember the quiz answers or even to guess the answers to questions about unfamiliar films. If you and your friends are rom-com lovers, you can even challenge each other to answer the quizzes.
The book is quite detailed and includes descriptions of each movie. There is also information about directors, writers, and stars. Plus there is even some trivia. Thus, it is also a great way to learn about unfamiliar rom-coms and find even more to watch.
Movie: Christmas Cowboy
Today we are talking about Christmas Cowboy. Mary is forced to return to her hometown and take place in a humiliating competition to close a deal with an eccentric billionaire. The parts of this movie that revolve around Mary's reconciliation with her father, sister, and nieces are quite heartwarming.
The rest of it is quite disturbing, however, although not in a sexual way. The fact that a potential client would expect Mary to participate in a competition that has nothing to do with her job to secure a deal is quite concerning. Her boss not only allowing this but demanding Mary's acquiescence if she wants to keep her job is alarming. The reveal at the end of the film does not make things better in fact it only makes everything that Mary has been put through to this point even more concerning. Thus we cannot highly recommend this movie.
Christmas Cowboy is now available on DVD or digitally for purchase or rental
