Books: The Greatest Lie of All & How to Get a Life in Ten Dates
Today we are recommending The Greatest Lie of All by Jillian Cantor. When actress, Amelia Grant is given the role of a lifetime portraying famous romance novelist, Gloria Diamond in her life story she arranges to spend some time with the novelist to try to get to know her. However, Amelia doesn't understand why Gloria instantly seems to dislike her and barely spends any time with her, She has no such problem with Gloria's son, however, as they immediately take a liking to each other. With his help, she begins to learn things about Gloria that don't fit with the perfect picture Gloria painted in her autobiography and eventually, she learns a surprising connection between Gloria's life and her own.
This is a really appealing novel. The story is engaging and the characters are interesting. It has a lot of exciting twists and turns and is not too predictable Plus, it has a mostly satisfying ending where everything that has come before makes sense which is not always the case. There is also some bittersweet romance and some touching moments of friendship including a very sweet friendship between two young children. The story reminds us of how fragile life is and how everything can change in an instant and thus, how important it is to appreciate what we have when we have it.
Today we are talking about How to Get a Life in Ten Dates by Jenny L. Howe. Haleigh and Jackson are best friends and clearly in love with each other but after a disastrous hook-up in Hawaii, they agree to be just friends. Fed up with dating in general, Haleigh agrees to let her friends and family members set her up on ten dates, and she agrees to keep an open mind about the dates if they promise to leave her alone about dating if things still don't go well.
On the whole Jackson and Haleigh's relationship is kind of annoying. True they know each other really well, but that is because they have been friends so long and does not necessarily mean they belong together. The reason they decided to be just friends in the first place seems to be more because of Jackson's issues. Granted he does seem to be dealing with some serious mental health issues, but why does he wait to deal with them until Haleigh seems to be falling for someone else. He is okay with her having no one but he is not okay with her having someone else. If he really cared about her, he wouldn't want her to be alone just because he has issues he needs to deal with and maybe he would even deal with his issues before being pushed to because a rival for Haleigh's affections has entered the picture.
The majority of dates that Haleigh goes on are quite extreme and not very realistic. Her relationship with Brian seems more realistic and healthier than her relationship with Jackson. He is not perfect but he is a good guy, and the reason they break up seems rather contrived. Two people don't have to like all the same things to have a good relationship
The book does have some good points. Although Haley is described as plus size, her dating issues at least within the story have nothing to do with her size. She is also bisexual, but that is not an issue within the story either, it is just a fact. It is also nice the way the main characters from Howe's previous novel. On the Plus Side, make a cameo appearance in this book. It is nice to know that they are still together and still doing well. On the whole, that is a much more enjoyable book than this one.
Movie: Jurassic Pet 3
Today we are talking about Jurassic Pet 3. When two children discover an egg that hatches into a dinosaur, they have to join forces with an older man and the mayor and his daughter to save the dinosaur from being exploited by a film crew and return it to where it came from. This film is kind of like Jurassic Park lite. Although it may still be scary for very young children, the dinosaurs are basically harmless and no one is killed or hurt by them or even comes close to it. For the most part, there are not a lot of dinosaurs roaming around either but rather only one particular dinosaur, and, despite the misnomer of the title, neither that dinosaur nor any others are anyone's pet. Not that much really seems to happen in the film except for a lot of chases, but kids and action fans may enjoy it. It does have a nice sentimental ending though if you like that sort of thing.
Jurassic Park 3 is available now for digital rental.
Misc. EaZy Hold
Today we are recommending EaZy Hold. They make soft stretchy straps with holes on the ends to slide over various products to help young children and the elderly hold objects. However, you don't have to be young or elderly to use them. They also provide needed support for anyone trying to improve their grip in order to complete a task. They come in different lengths (although each one stretches up to three times its size as well) and with different-sized holes for a wide variety of uses. They are BPA and latex-free and made of food-grade silicone. For more about EaZy Hold go to eazyhold.com
And that's our view.
