I started this blog with one daughter, kept it up with the other, to spend time together doing something we enjoyed.
However, things change and people evolve. My daughters are older, busier, and not as interested in writing.
From now on this blog will be mostly mom with occasional contributions from my daughters and maybe even my husband.
Nothing else will change. We'll still focus on sharing fun places to go, fun things to do, and more, and we would  still love to hear your views too

Inspired by real people and events, this riveting two-hander illuminates the person whom many consider the most powerful woman in American history…and the once-in-a-generation political talent who defied her.

Suffs boldly explores the victories and failures of a struggle for equality that’s far from over. Suffs stars book writer, composer, and lyricist Shaina Taub in the role of Alice Paul, making history as only the second woman ever to write the book, music, lyrics and star in her own Broadway musical. Taub is an Obie Award-winning, Emmy Award-nominated songwriter and winner of the Kleban Prize, the Fred Ebb Award, the Jonathan Larson Grant, and the NYCLU's Michael Friedman Freedom Award for activism. MONDAY JUNE 17

The Black Wolfe Tone

by Kwaku Fortune

The Black Wolfe Tone is about muddled identity, and how trauma can be passed down from generation to generation. It’s about a culture of silence and raging against the machine. About the mind, and how young men deal, or don’t deal, with the darkness. At its heart, it’s about a young boy seeking forgiveness, the inner child wanting only to be loved.

BENT!

by Felispeaks

Bent is a modern day Black Irish story of a young woman, Shayo, on the road to self-acceptance. Shayo battles whether to listen to the voice within herself or to listen to the trusted voices of her parents, we watch their struggle over the Christmas holidays. Her journey to finding balance within herself is dotted with inspiration from Yoruba mythology and is juxtaposed with hints of Christian theology. Who will Shayo listen to by the new year? Herself or her family?

TUESDAY JUNE 18

89

by Jade Jordan

89 is a Dublin story inspired by the life of Christine Buckley, an Irish activist and campaigner, who served as the director of the Aislinn support and education group for survivors of Industrial Schools in Ireland. An honest portrayal of industrial abuse, abandonment, identity and seeking answers, 89 is ultimately a story of survival.

Corktown

by CN Smith

Corktown is a story about Dublin, set outside Dublin; about the present, but set in the past. One night, in an all-white neighborhood in Corktown, Detroit, an Irish immigrant answers a knock at her door. The black woman on her doorstep insists she is due to move into the spare room upstairs. After a small struggle, she comes inside. Now what?

As guests entered, they were greeted by a lively brass band before taking a stroll through the Victorian gardens and visiting nearly 600 animals, which included a pair of curassows (type of bird) donated by President Ulysses. S. Grant.  To celebrate this historic achievement and thank Philadelphia and the region for being a part of its story for the last 150 years, the Zoo will be hosting additional celebrations, ticket and membership deals, and giveaways and contests for fans of all ages - including a flash sale for tickets priced at $18.74, special priced memberships,

24) REHEARSAL FOR TRUTH INTERNATIONAL THEATER FESTIVAL, HONORING VÁCLAV HAVEL, ANNOUNCES PROGRAMMING, JUNE 12 – 23, 2024 IN NYC

ALL EVENTS ARE FREE TO THE PUBLIC

The Rehearsal for Truth International Theater Festival honoring Václav Havel, announces programming for this year’s fest. Entitled Dark Dreams, the festival runs June 12 – 23, 2024 at the Bohemian National Hall, located at 321 East 73rd Street in New York City.

Rehearsal for Truth International Theater Festival is an annual showcase of contemporary Central and Eastern European Theater, founded in 2017. It is a shared endeavor of the Václav Havel Center and the Bohemian Benevolent and Literary Association in partnership with numerous other cultural and performing arts organizations. The festival honors the artistic and political legacy of the Czech playwright/dissident/president Václav Havel. They support exchanges between American and European theater professionals and celebrate the power of the theater to transform our lives.

This year’s festival (including the May reading series) features work from Austria, Belarus, Estonia, Czechia, Germany, Hungary, Romania, Slovakia, and Ukraine. Much of the work featured this year is surreal or dreamlike, finding ways to comment on past and present tragedies, from the legacy of the Nazi and Soviet years to the current war in Ukraine. It explores fascism but also beauty, darkness but also laughter.

The festival begins with one of the oldest authors in the vein of the dark and comically surreal, Franz Kafka, on the 100th anniversary of his death. It continues on with not only theater but dance and music. This year, for the first time, film is included in the lineup, specifically film of theater and dance. Most programs include discussions with either the authors, experts on some of the subjects addressed, or both.

Artistic Director Edward Einhorn states, “Rehearsal for Truth is a rare opportunity to hear artistic voices from Central and Eastern Europe. We are at a time marked by war, and once again the region finds itself in the center of conflict. These plays comment on past and present tragedies, from the legacy of the Nazi and Soviet years to the current war in Ukraine. It explores fascism but also beauty, darkness but also laughter.”

Tickets to all programs are free with a suggested donation of $10 per person. Schedule varies - for exact days and times, to reserve tickets, and for more info visit https://www.rehearsalfortruth.org.
