I started this blog with one daughter, kept it up with the other, to spend time together doing something we enjoyed.
However, things change and people evolve. My daughters are older, busier, and not as interested in writing.
From now on this blog will be mostly mom with occasional contributions from my daughters and maybe even my husband.
Nothing else will change. We'll still focus on sharing fun places to go, fun things to do, and more, and we would  still love to hear your views too

Still More Theater Saturday - Titanic

We were given complimentary tickets to Titanic for review purposes. Any and all opinions expressed here are our own.

What: Titanic

Where: New York City Center
             131 W. 55th St.
             New York, NY

Who: Recommended for Ages 13 and Up

When: Through June 23, 2024

The musical, Titanic premiered on Broadway in 1997. Although it won several Tonys including the Best Musical Award, it was likely still overshadowed by the Oscar-winning movie of the same name that premiered the same year.  City Center Encores! current production of the show suffers no such fate. In fact, the cast alone is an embarrassment of riches that cannot be overlooked. Bonnie Milligan, Chip Zien, Judy Kuhn, and all three Coopers: Chuck, Eddie, and Lilli are just a small sampling of the talented performers appearing in the show. The show itself is just as awesome as you would think it would be based on the caliber of the cast.

While the Broadway production of Titanic was initially plagued by technical difficulties, City Center's production doesn't have to worry about that. This bare-bones version of the show isn't reliant on fancy tricks like trying to portray the sinking ship to get its point across. The set includes exactly what is necessary and nothing more. Extremely well use is made of lighting as well. This leaves the emphasis where it should be on the characters in the story and really gives the show an emotional punch.

And that's our view. For more information about Titanic or to purchase tickets to one of the few remaining performances, go to www.nycitycenter.org/pdps/2023-2024/titanic For more about Encores! upcoming 2024/2025 season go to www.nycitycenter.org/events-tickets/2024-2025-season.
