I started this blog with one daughter, kept it up with the other, to spend time together doing something we enjoyed.
However, things change and people evolve. My daughters are older, busier, and not as interested in writing.
From now on this blog will be mostly mom with occasional contributions from my daughters and maybe even my husband.
Nothing else will change. We'll still focus on sharing fun places to go, fun things to do, and more, and we would  still love to hear your views too

2) Cross That River

The unsettled West of the 1860s provides a new life and new dreams for Blue, a run-away slave, who escapes to Texas to become one of America's first Black Cowboys. This compelling tale of freedom integrates fiction with historical fact, and each song presents a different page in this complicated chapter of American History.

3) Gutenberg the Musical

Josh Gad and Andrew Rannells star in Gutenberg! The Musical, a hilarious new musical about an unintentionally hilarious new musical.

In this two-man musical spoof, a pair of aspiring playwrights perform a backers’ audition for their new project - a big, splashy musical about printing press inventor Johann Gutenberg. With an unending supply of enthusiasm, Bud and Doug sing all the songs and play all the parts in their crass historical epic, with the hope that one of the producers in attendance will give them a Broadway contract – fulfilling their ill-advised dreams.

James Earl Jones Theatre (138 West 48th St.)

Opening Night 10/12

Melissa Etheridge: My Window is an intimate experience like never before, inviting theatergoers into an exhilarating evening of storytelling and music. From tales of her childhood in Kansas to her groundbreaking career highlights – with all of life’s hits and deep cuts between – Etheridge opens her heart and soul on stage to fearlessly dazzle audiences of all generations.

6) One With the Current

A fishing trip during Covid alters the course of one man’s life in Daniel Damiano’s timely solo show One With the Current which opens on Wednesday, September 13 at the 36th Street Studio Theatre in Manhattan. The play sheds a rarely-seen light on a good man with good intentions, and explores with unusual nuance how one who purely has a desire to provide for his family and serve his community can be misled to partake in the unfathomable.

36th Street Studio Theatre (312 W. 36th St.)

7) Al Hirschfeld Foundation launches new partnership with City Winery on 9/18 with live multimedia event and exhibition,
“Hirschfeld’s Music”

September 18 at 7:30PM, David Leopold, Creative Director of The Al Hirschfeld Foundation, launches the celebration of “Hirschfeld’s Music” with a live, world premiere multimedia presentation. Leopold will take attendees on a virtual tour through decades of musical history as seen by the artist. Learn how Hirschfeld helped Duke Ellington deal with racism on his first national tours, or when he got Satchmo’s trumpet. See what happens when he hangs out with Aerosmith in the recording studio and who he meets at a Benny Goodman rehearsal in 1932. For this first time, Hirschfeld’s nine decades is on display in a presentation featuring rarely seen images as well and old favorites. Whether that music was onstage at the Apollo, on a Broadway stage, a recording studio, or an after-hour jam session, Hirschfeld caught the essence of the players and the scene in a line as supple and rhythmic as any one he heard. Hirschfeld’s drawings and prints give viewers, then and now, a real sense of the performance and personality of the music and the musicians. To purchase tickets for the September 18 presentation, visit www.citywinery.com/newyork.

10) Breakthru:
Movement Microbreaks for the Modern Workday

As we return from summer vacation to the regular work week, we experience the stresses of office life: we take in and act on large amounts of information; while sitting at our desks; staring into screens, or even running from one patient to another. Many of us work with minimal break time or inadequate rest as we fight burnout and exhaustion. A growing body of research has demonstrated that our current sedentary work culture literally kills- according to a 2010 study, it increases men’s chances of early death by 18% and women’s chance by 37%.

As a response to this growing crisis, Melissa Painter’s female-founded company Breakthru launched an immersive, interactive, movement-based app: Breakthru: Movement Microbreaks for the Modern Workday that provides users with guided 2-minute breaks to boost mental and physical health for individuals and team - and is backed by none other than Microsoft.

Movement and breathing deserve a role in our thinking day.

How Does it Work?
  • You start by picking the mood you are looking for- confident, joyful, energized or centered. Each mood is accompanied by a color - the experience is interactive and multi-sensory, with spatial sound.
  • You push away from the computer and follow the guide, created by motion capture from movement experts whose expertise ranges from akido, tai chi, physical therapy, yoga and dance. There’s no right or wrong way to play- the movement of your body affects the sound and the visuals!
  • Each mood contains a series of different break options – there is a world of movement behind each mood option, each of which hold an entire series.
  • Breakthru invites you to set custom reminders and allows you to see your history. It also uses interactive feedback – machine vision (AI) – so the movement of a user’s body changes the sound and visual.
  • You can set team challenges, send appreciation to a colleague, use Breakthru as an ice breaker in meetings, win streaks, and unlock new breaks over time.
  • Breakthru is constantly evolving and new breaks are added continually.

PRICING
Breakthru is the cost of a cupcake, or a cup of coffee. Try for 7 days free. Cancel anytime. Breakthru is available for individuals, groups or larger enterprises, and is always free for schools.

For more information on Breakthru, email info@breakthru.me or visit https://breakthru.me.

Johann Strauss II: Kaiser-Walzer (Emperor Waltz)

Gustav Mahler: Symphony No. 6

Music Director Leon Botstein opens the Bard season with a concert juxtaposing two distinct styles of Viennese music from the late 19th and early 20th centuries: the melodies of Franz Lehár and the Strauss brothers, and Mahler’s Sixth Symphony. The performance begins with an overture of music from Lehár’s well-known 1905 operetta The Merry Widow, written in 1940 to celebrate the composer’s 70th birthday. This is followed by two dance pieces: Eduard Strauss’ train-themed polka Bahn frei!, and his brother Johann Jr.'s Emperor Waltz, composed for the 40th anniversary of Emperor Franz Josef’s crowning. The program closes with a contrasting style from the same era, Mahler’s deeply personal Symphony No. 6.

Guests can sample more than 100 fresh, seasonal beers and ciders from dozens of breweries, including Warsteiner, Urban Village Brewing Company, Big Oyster Brewery, Conshohocken Brewing Company and Evil Genius Beer Company. Come hungry for sweet and savory street food from the region's best food trucks, including BYZ. Empire, Deke's BBQ, Wokworks, Bonjour Creperie, The Munchy Machine, Bacon on a Stick and more. Sip, savor and stroll while visiting animals around the Zoo. OktoBEARfest serves as a fundraiser and supports Philadelphia Zoo in its mission to create joyful discovery and inspire action for animals and habitats. 23) TerrorVision
A New Immersive Horror Experience in Times Square

TERROR presents TerrorVision - Live Screaming Your Nightmares, a new immersive in-your-face horror experience, told over three narrative attractions, flickers to life in Times Square. Located at the fictional 'Horrorwood Studios’ (300 W. 43rd), Will Munro and Katie McGeoch serve as artistic directors, and the second season of screams begins September 13, with opening night set for Thursday, September 14.

This year’s event will push the boundaries of what audience members can expect in a live horror attraction. In these heart-pounding immersive experiences, guests step through a flickering television screen and into a first-person nightmare.

As audiences embark on a tour of the dilapidated Horrowood Studios, they’re invited to get a ‘behind the screams’ sneak peek of the filming of the upcoming TerrorVision Halloween episode. As things go terribly awry, the screen shatters and guests are suddenly cast as the unwitting new star, forced to face three tales of terror with each manifesting as an immersive walk through haunted house style experience, overflowing with gruesome creatures and movie magic special effects.

Guests are going to see snow, and wind inside of the rooms, giant creatures , and seemingly impossible effects constantly happening all around, quite literally swirling them into this nightmare world.

140 actors inhabit the world of TerrorVision, which includes over 20,000 square feet of rooms, passageways and fright-making it one of the largest theatrical experiences in New York City.

Tickets, beginning at $39, are available at www.facetheterror.com, with early bird pricing available until September 19.
