I started this blog with one daughter, kept it up with the other, to spend time together doing something we enjoyed.
However, things change and people evolve. My daughters are older, busier, and not as interested in writing.
From now on this blog will be mostly mom with occasional contributions from my daughters and maybe even my husband.
Nothing else will change. We'll still focus on sharing fun places to go, fun things to do, and more, and we would  still love to hear your views too

Still More Theater Saturday - Cross That River

We were given complimentary tickets to Cross That River for review purposes. Any and all opinions expressed here are our own. Parts of this post were taken from a previous post when we originally reviewed a concert version of this show back in 2017. It has been edited and updated as necessary to reflect the current production.

Me - Cross That River is a show about an escaped slave who became a cowboy. The show is good. I really like the music. It is different than music you would normally hear in a show, but it is good. I would like to listen to the songs again.

The story is interesting. The acting is excellent. The singing is superb.

There are four people in the show. The two women play a lot of different characters. The men play the main character at different ages.

My favorite thing about the show is the music. People who like shows with good music or shows about cowboys would like this show.

Mom - Cross That River is the story of one of America's first black cowboys. The story is a mix of fact and fiction. The show is a musical. The jazz-based score was composed by Allan Harris, the star of the show. Mr. Harris is a renowned jazz musician.

Harris and his wife wrote the show as well. They did a nice job with it.  The story is definitely entertaining and full of surprises.

The highlight of this show, by far,  is definitely the songs. They are fun and some are really pretty. They don't sound like typical cowboy songs or like typical musical songs either. They sound like songs you would hear on the radio. They are so nice that even if there were no story, it would still be worth just going to hear a concert of the songs and/or to hear the talented band play.

And that's our view. For information or to purchase tickets, visit 59e59.org/shows/show-detail/cross-that-river.

Tune in tomorrow for this week's Sunday Scoop.
