A) Beginning Performances
1) The Good John Proctor
THE GOOD JOHN PROCTOR is a new look at the lead-up to the Salem Witch Trials, imagining the inner lives of the real girls at the center of the trials as they hurtle toward the events dramatized in Arthur Miller’s THE CRUCIBLE. Abigail Warren, age eleven, and Betty Parris, age nine and a half, are best friends. There's also Mercy Lewis, the child alcoholic, and Mary Warren, who shakes for no reason. The girls churn butter, play with poppets, and listen to The Woods at night. But their world is turned upside-down when Abigail starts to work for a farmer named John Proctor. Playwright Talene Monahon brings these familiar names to new life as the young women of Salem navigate the nature of Satan and the bloody trials of adolescence. THE GOOD JOHN PROCTOR marks the first BEDLAM production directed by someone other than Artistic Director Eric Tucker.
Connelly Theater (220 East 4th St.)
3/11 - 4/2
Opening Day 3/19
For more information or to purchase tickets, visit bedlam.org
2) Medea
MEDEA directed by O’Dea, the production fuses Euripides’ classic with excerpts from Cherubini's Opera Medea – featuring a small core group of classical actors who are also classically trained opera singers - performing both genres as part of a production that seamlessly merges the two.
Theater for the New City (155 First Ave.)
Through 3/12
3) Misty
Fusing live music, spoken word, and absurdist comedy, Misty is an exhilarating journey through a city in flux, transporting audiences to the streets of gentrifying London in an exploration of the pressures and expectations that come with being an artist in our time. In a performance that is part poem, part concert, part confession, Kene self-consciously wrestles with cultural representation and identity politics as they pertain to a new play he has been commissioned to write. This riveting production is accompanied by a pulsating original score performed by a live band and composed by Arinzé Kene, Shiloh Coke and Adrian McLeod.
The Shed's Griffin Theater (545 W. 30th St.)
Through 4/2
Opening Night 3/9
4) Sancocho
Simmering between two Puerto Rican sisters is a family tension that finally comes to a boil. Forced to confront the reality of their father’s rapidly declining health, Renata and Caridad clash over cultural divides, unearth old wounds, and reveal long-buried secrets. As Caridad’s sancocho bubbles on the stove, will the two sisters reconcile their past resentments to face their uncertain futures – together? A searing Off-Broadway Premiere play by Christin Eve Cato.
WP Theater (2162 Broadway)
3/11 - 4/9
Opening Night 3/23
5) Shucked
What do you get when you pair a semi-neurotic, New York comedy writer with two music superstars from Nashville? A hilarious and audacious farm-to-fable musical about the one thing Americans everywhere can’t get enough of: corn. Shucked is the new musical comedy that proves sometimes tearing down a few walls, rather than growing them, is the only way to preserve our way of life. Shucked is about to turn Broadway on its ear and offer a kernel of hope for our divided nation.
Nederlander Theatre (208 West 41st St.)

6) The Strange Undoing of Prudencia Hart
The Strange Undoing of Prudencia Hart unfolds among and around its audience, weaving an ingenious, lyrical, and enchanting story told with live music throughout its intimate and supernatural setting. The Club Car is transformed into a high-spirited Scottish pub for the occasion. The show, a transporting and music-filled Scottish folk theater fable, played an acclaimed engagement at The McKittrick Hotel in 2017.

Visitors will be brought face to face with the original productions of Fiddler on the Roof, The Phantom of the Opera, The King and I, Sunday in the Park with George, Funny Girl, Ragtime, Beauty and the Beast, and Hairspray, among others. Two exhibition walls are dedicated to Hirschfeld's theatre posters, programs and album covers. The program highlights the intellectual curiosity, innovation, and artistic excellence of youth (ages 15-22) from around the world. Young Voices in Dance will feature live performances with original works made and danced by youth. Battery Dance encourages submissions that have a clear concept or theme, integrate interdisciplinary collaborations, and showcase a unique voice as a choreographer. All styles of dance are eligible to apply. Eligible young choreographers who previously applied for the main Festival earlier this year are welcome to apply again to be considered for Young Voices. Selected pieces will perform at the 42nd Annual Battery Dance Festival at Rockefeller Park in NYC on August 12, 2023.
REQUIREMENTS:
* Choreographers must be between 15-22 years of age by August 12, 2023 to apply.
* Individual artists and collectives are welcome to apply. You do not need to be a formal organization to be considered.
* Duration of group works (2 or more dancers) should be between 5-10 minutes. The duration of solo works should be between 2-5 minutes. * Battery Dance does not cover travel expenses.
* Applications will be reviewed by the Battery Dance Festival Manager and a youth curatorial panel.

16) Battery Dance NOW
March 8-11, 2023 at New York Live Arts
Battery Dance presents Battery Dance NOW, featuring the work of three female choreographers, on March 8-11, 2023 at 7pm at New York Live Arts, 219 West 19th St., NYC. In its New York Live Arts debut, Battery Dance has assembled Battery Dance NOW, a program of three contemporary dance works that explore time and transitions: Robin Cantrell's “The Liminal Year" captures the natural resistance to isolation and the need to fight against fear; Ana Maria Lucaciu’s "It Goes By Quick" explores the urgency and frustration of seeing time slip away; Tsai Hsi Hung’s "A Certain Mood" was inspired by the contrasting shift from dark to light in the work of abstract expressionist painter Hans Hofmann.
Each work is set to an original music score. “The Liminal Year" and "It Goes By Quick" have never been presented in a theater before; both premiered at the 2021 Battery Dance Festival and will now receive full lighting and staging during this engagement at New York Live Arts.
As an added feature to the evening, Battery Dance presents the world premiere of “GREY,” a music video featuring two Company artists, Jillian Linkowski and Razvan Stoian, who were commissioned by the band Eventually Epic to appear in this three-minute film.

This World Premiere performance of The Reckoning is multidisciplinary choreographer and director Francesca Harper’s response to the 2010 killing of seven-year-old Aiyana Mo'Nay Stanley-Jones at the hands of Detroit law enforcement. In collaboration with composer Nona Hendryx, Harper creates an expressive historical record of injustice as she explores the relationship between erasure and commodification in the media's coverage of brutality against bodies of color. Dancers from Ailey II and FHP Collective perform in costumes by Elias Gurrola, with lighting design by Itohan Edoloyi. The Reckoning exists as both an upcoming film and a live performance, premiered for one night only on March 11, 2023.
“Francesca Harper's choreographed movements, through every gesture and elongation offered by the dancers, stirs up the sorrow and frenzy that was dispensed the night Officer Joseph Weekly's bullet struck and killed Aiyana Stanley-Jones,” said ARRAY SVP of Public Programming Mercedes Cooper. “By imagining the future self of Aiyana, the artist condemns the erasure of her young life and demands we confront the systems that police our communities with a carelessness towards Black bodies.”
