I started this blog with one daughter, kept it up with the other, to spend time together doing something we enjoyed.
However, things change and people evolve. My daughters are older, busier, and not as interested in writing.
From now on this blog will be mostly mom with occasional contributions from my daughters and maybe even my husband.
Nothing else will change. We'll still focus on sharing fun places to go, fun things to do, and more, and we would  still love to hear your views too

Where-To-Go Wednesday - Meet the Presidents

We were given complimentary tickets to the New York Historical Society for review purposes. Any and all opinions expressed here are our own.

What: Meet the Presidents

Where: New York Historical Society
            170 Central Park W.
            New York, NY

Who: All ages

Me - The Meet the Presidents exhibit at the New York Historical Society was small but interesting. They had pictures of all the Presidents so if you need to brush up on your Presidents it would be a great place to go. There was information on how the executive branch grew and changed over the years.  When George Washington was President, it was just him, and now there are a bunch of different people involved with the executive branch beside the President. There are pictures and information about important events that occurred during different presidencies. There is a replica of the oval office where you can sit in the President's chair and take a picture. You can play sound clips from famous presidential speeches. If you want to learn more about US Presidents, this exhibit is a great place to visit.

Mom - A great place to go to learn about the presidency and all our past Presidents in a fun way is the Meet the Presidents exhibit at the New York Historical Society. This small but thorough exhibit includes pictures of every former President interspersed with a timeline that indicates during whose presidencies certain major events occurred.  There is also a timeline tracing the expansion of the executive branch. In Washington's time, it consisted of just him as indicated by a single chair.

Numerous objects and documents related to the Presidency are on display including Washington's inaugural bible and copies of the Constitution and the Pentagon Papers. There are also plenty of historic pictures. You can listen to famous historical speeches like Ronald Regan consoling the nation after the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster, and Lyndon Baines Johnson addressing Congress regarding voting rights. You can even sit in a replica of the President's chair in a replica of the oval office.

There is so much about the Presidents, and the presidency that they don't teach you in school or you go over it so fast that you barely remember. There is so much to learn and the years go by so fast that there is never enough time. However, at this exhibit, you have plenty of time to take it all in or at least as much as you want. Besides, visiting this exhibit is a much more interesting way to learn about the Presidents anyway.

And that's our view. For more information about the Meet the Presidents exhibit, visit www.nyhistory.org/meet-the-presidents. For more about the New York Historical Society or to purchase timed tickets for a visit, go to www.nyhistory.org

Tune in tomorrow for Theater Thursday.
