Powerline Road is a musical about power and control who has the power, how they get it, what they do with it, and how they keep it. The plot involves four separate stories that although they do intersect in small ways, at times it is hard to keep them all straight. All four storylines are very dark including things like kidnapping, assault, and drug dealing among other things. Accordingly, this is not at all a good show to attend with children. Also, all the terrible things going on in this show make it hard to know who to root for. None of the characters are truly good.
The acting, on the whole, is very good, however. The singing voices are as well. The songs are not particularly memorable, but the lovely voices make them nice to listen to. All of the actors sing very clearly as well which makes it easy to understand what they are singing. It is so nice not having to try to decipher the lyrics to a bunch of mumbled songs which is often the case.
In the end, the show is mostly just dark and depressing. Plus, not one of the stories really gives you a sense of closure. If you want to see some talented actors plying their craft, or you really enjoy dark shows, you might like this one. If you are looking for a light happy show or to be uplifted, you will want to look somewhere else.
