I started this blog with one daughter, kept it up with the other, to spend time together doing something we enjoyed.
However, things change and people evolve. My daughters are older, busier, and not as interested in writing.
From now on this blog will be mostly mom with occasional contributions from my daughters and maybe even my husband.
Nothing else will change. We'll still focus on sharing fun places to go, fun things to do, and more, and we would  still love to hear your views too

Reinvention and Restlessness: Fashion in the Nineties

Where: Museum at FIT
             7th Ave. and W. 27th St.
             New York, NY

Who: Tweens and Up

When: Through April 17, 2022

When you think of 1950s fashion, you think of things like poodle skirts and pedal pushers. When you think of 1960s fashion, you think of things like mini skirts and sky-high boots. When you think of 1970s fashion, you think of things like bold crazy prints and bright colors. When you think of 1980s fashion, you think of things like padded shoulder and leg warmers. When you think of 1990s fashions, nothing immediately comes to mind.  However, there was a lot going on in fashion during that decade and it is all being highlighted at the current exhibit at the Museum at FIT, Reinvention and Restlessness: Fashion in the Nineties.

Fashions of the 90s ran the gamut from outfits literally made out of plastic and/or paper to much more traditional formal wear. The collection includes well-known articles of clothing from movies and television including Fran Drescher's sweater from The Nanny and Sarah Jessica Parker's shoes from Sex in the City. You can also watch video clips of some of the shows and movies in which these iconic looks appeared. There are replicas of Oscar fashions; a dress with a giant zipper that winds all the way around the dress; and a dress decorated with pictures of former leader of the Chinese Communist Party, Mao Zedong's face. These are only a small sampling of the items on display in this exhibit. For more go to www.fitnyc.edu/museum/exhibitions/fashion-in-the-nineties or visit the exhibit.

The Museum at FIT is completely free to visit. It is open Wednesday to Friday from noon to 8:00 PM and Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. For more information about the museum, visit www.fitnyc.edu/museum

Tune in tomorrow for Theater Thursday.
