I started this blog with one daughter, kept it up with the other, to spend time together doing something we enjoyed.
However, things change and people evolve. My daughters are older, busier, and not as interested in writing.
From now on this blog will be mostly mom with occasional contributions from my daughters and maybe even my husband.
Nothing else will change. We'll still focus on sharing fun places to go, fun things to do, and more, and we would  still love to hear your views too

Broadway by the Year: THE NEW WAVE
Songs from Hamilton, Dear Evan Hansen, The Book of Mormon, Rent, The Drowsy Chaperone and more

When Broadway historians look back at the early 21st Century, they may well call this era a new Golden Age, because right now it’s much like the 1920s when bright new composers like Irving Berlin, The Gershwins, Rodgers & Hart, and Cole Porter took a foothold on Broadway.

In the first concert of their 21st season, Broadway by the Year will celebrate the likes of Lin-Manuel Miranda (In the Heights, Hamilton), Benj Pasek and Justin Paul (Dear Evan Hansen), Bobby Lopez (The Book of Mormon), and Lopez with Jeff Marx (Avenue Q), and so much more. An All-Star cast, drawn from performers who starred in these shows on Broadway, will be an extra, exciting attraction

17) The Player's Theater
Presents
Beauty and the Beast

An original musical adaptation of “Beauty and the Beast”, inspired by the 1740 French Novella, and
decidedly not Disney, has been revived at the Players Theatre, and located at 115 MacDougal Street
(between West 3rd and Bleeker) in the West Village. The production features a live chamber ensemble
with music by Michael Sgouros and book and lyrics by Brenda Bell.

Largely based on the original book by Marie Beaumont, which was written in 1756, this version finds the title character, Beauty (Emily Sharick), to be a surprising heroine. Unlike most fairytale damsels, she is not waiting to be rescued by a prince charming. In fact, if there is rescuing to be done, Beauty will be doing it. But she is far from flawless, indeed she makes a number of mistakes, but as a true heroine, she always learns from her blunders.

In addition to the full 70-minute musical production; families can come an hour early to take part in a pre-show adventure workshop. Here the children meet members of the production team and learn about the music as well as the original story and how it was made into a musical. The actor playing the Beast
explains that he really isn’t scary; even though he is wearing a mask, he is still the same on the inside. Then everyone gets to make a mask of their own to take home with them.

“Beauty and the Beast” February 26th through April 10th on Saturday’s at 3pm and 7pm and Sunday’s at 11am and 2pm. The Players Theatre is located at 115 MacDougal Street (between Bleecker and West 3rd). Tickets are $42-$62 and can be purchased at: https://web.ovationtix.com/trs/pr/1004245 By calling 1-866-811-4111 or at the box office which opens daily at 11a. head the cast of “TRUSpeak:
Hear Our Voices!”,
an evening of social awareness to benefit
Theater Resources Unlimited
Sunday, March 20, 2022 at 5pm ET

Theater Resources Unlimited (TRU) announces a star-studded cast for this year's 2022 TRUSpeak: Hear Our Voices!, a virtual gala scheduled for Sunday, March 20, 2022 from 5pm to 7pm. Presented with generous sponsorship from R.K. Greene and The Storyline Project, Patrick Blake of Rhymes Over Beats, Merrie L. Davis of Next Act 2 Follow, Neil Rubinstein/Dangerous and Stephanie Rosenberg/Financial Advisor at Wells Fargo Advisors, this is an evening to raise awareness of current social issues, as well as awareness of the work TRU has been doing for the theater community for over 28 years. Tickets and details are available at http://TRUSpeakTix.com

Familiar faces will include Tony and Emmy nominee and Obie winner Veanne Cox, Tony nominee Brenda Braxton, Broadway veterans Terry Burrell, Danny Bolero, Bruce Sabath and Todd Buonopane, TV, stage and film veteran Guy Whitlock, plus Daralyn Jay, Phil Chin, Jonathan Dauermann, Penelope Hsu, Jessica Luu Pelletier, Jacob Henrie-Naffaa and Patrick John O'Dea. The event is being produced by TRU executive director Bob Ost with Iben Cenholt, Joe Nelms and Janel Scarborough; Iben is also acting as technical coordinator and Joe is marketing coordinator, with graphics by Gary Hughes. The technical team includes Brian Lawton, Carley Santori, Jay Chacon, Henry Garrou and Gabriella Mykal.

In addition to presenting 7 powerful new short plays, TRU will be honoring producer-director-dramaturg Cate Cammarata with the TRU Entrepreneur Award for her virtual platform CreateTheater.com, serving an online community of artists and offering a platform for developing new work, especially during the COVID shutdown. Says TRU executive director Bob Ost, "Cate's embrace of virtual was visionary, and predated the shutdown that forced the rest of us to consider new ways of doing things."

TRU will also hold a remembrance of Van Dirk Fisher, the founding force behind New York’s Riant Theatre, Strawberry Play and One-Act Festivals and the Jocunda Music, Film and Theatre Festival that offered online support to new works and new voices of theater. Bob adds, "Van directed a powerful play in last year's TRUSpeak gala and supported TRU over the years in many ways. We and an entire community mourn his untimely loss and remember him with respect and gratitude."

General Admission tickets are $55 for the virtual show ($30 for TRU members), and VIP tickets are $90 ($75 for TRU), which include a post-show meet-and-greet with the creative teams and TRU Board and past Honorees. Circle of Angels tickets are $100, $250, and $500, and include the above play and after-party, plus a thank you credit in the waiting room, opening, and closing. Tickets can be purchased at https://truonline.org/events/truspeak-22/
