I started this blog with one daughter, kept it up with the other, to spend time together doing something we enjoyed.
However, things change and people evolve. My daughters are older, busier, and not as interested in writing.
From now on this blog will be mostly mom with occasional contributions from my daughters and maybe even my husband.
Nothing else will change. We'll still focus on sharing fun places to go, fun things to do, and more, and we would  still love to hear your views too

More Theater Monday - Other World

We were given complimentary tickets to Other World for review purposes. Any and all opinions expressed here are our own.

What: Other World

Where: Delaware Theater Company*
             200 Water St.
             Wilmington, DE

Who: Recommended for 7 and Up

When: This show concluded its run on March 20, 2022

Other World is a show about a couple of people who get trapped in a video game world. If you are not a gamer, your instinct might be to immediately tune out after reading that. However, that would be a big mistake because this is an incredibly heartwarming, exciting, entertaining, and original show which is definitely for everyone whether you are a gamer or not. It is not so much about the gaming as about the characters - characters in both the real and fictional world of the story. The way these characters care about each other; help each other; and form a family, a family made up of all sizes, shapes, genders, and backgrounds is something we all can learn from.

Diversity is definitely not just a watchword in Other World, it is the reality not just in terms of the characters in the show but in the casting of the show as well. The extremely talented and extremely diverse cast was made up of actors of various gender, colors, and physical abilities. Probably the most well-known person in the cast was Bonnie Milligan, who was previously nominated for several awards for her role as Pamela in the Broadway production of Head Over Heels. She was at her feisty badass best as Lorraine, the stand-in for those of us who don't really get gaming, However, by the end  of the show Lorraine gained an understanding and acceptance of gamers and their world that hopefully audience members gained as well.

The show's set, costumes, and special effects were all amazing. Together they created a beautiful, colorful, exciting, extraordinary world where you never knew what was going to happen. It was the perfect setting for this wonderfully intriguing story which definitely kept you on the edge of your seat throughout the entire show.

Unfortunately, Other World has now ended its run at the Delaware Theater Company. We can only hope it has another life in another theater some time soon. When and if it there is another run of this captivating show, if you have the opportunity to see it, we would highly recommend doing so whether you are a gamer or not. Otherwise, you'll be missing out on something really special.
