A Sherlock Carol, a new holiday play, will star Broadway favorites Drew McVety (Billy Elliot, Spamalot) as Sherlock Holmes and Thom Sesma (Sweeney Todd, Pacific Overtures) as Ebenezer Scrooge, with Dan Domingues (The Tempest, Wild Goose Dreams), Anissa Felix (Summer: The Donna Summer Musical, Sunset Boulevard), Tony Award nominee and Drama Desk Award winner Isabel Keating (The Boy From Oz, It’s Only a Play), and Mark Price (Mary Poppins, Chicago) rounding out the onstage company. The play is written and directed by Mark Shanahan.
The eight-week limited holiday engagement will play New World Stages (340 West 50th Street). Previews begin Thursday, November 11, 2021, with opening night scheduled for Monday, November 22, 2021, and the final performance on Sunday, January 2, 2022.
When a grown-up Tiny Tim asks Sherlock Holmes to investigate the peculiar death of Ebenezer Scrooge, the Great Detective must use his tools of deduction to get to the bottom of the crime. 2) ASSEMBLE EXTENDS ITS COMPLETELY IMMERSIVE IRREPLICABLE THEATRE EXPERIENCE
FLYING LEAP LLC is pleased to announce the extension of the critically-acclaimed production of ASSEMBLE, created by David Blackman, Talya Chalef, and Jess Kaufman. ASSEMBLE, a self-guided socially distanced, solo experience will continue at a location in Brooklyn, to be revealed post-ticket purchase. Performances are Thursdays through Mondays (every 20 minutes, 4 people per slot, 5-7 p.m.) through the end of the year. Tickets are $40 and are available at www.projectassemble.org.
To experience ASSEMBLE, part immersive theatre, part audio tour, and an entirely unique experience for each person, the participant must download the custom app (in good wifi), have headphones, and a completely charged phone.
After buying a ticket, the audience members will receive specific instructions on downloading the app. Once they arrive at the secret location in Brooklyn, participants are prompted to navigate and interact with the store through a series of choices and tasks.

Arts On Site is enforcing COVID-19 restrictions. Each performance is located in Arts On Site’s large space, Studio 3R, with an air filter. The stage is set up in a proscenium style with a clear division between the artist and the audience. Seating is limited and the front row of seating is set at least 10 feet from the stage. Additional safety measures include:
- Limited occupancy at each event, with only 34 audience members total at one time
- Hand hygiene stations provided on site
- Requirements that audience members are masked and performers be vaccinated
- Signage posted throughout the location to remind personnel and visitors to adhere to proper hygiene practices, use PPE appropriately, and follow disinfection protocols
- Designation of a site safety monitor whose responsibilities include continuous compliance with all aspects of the site safety plan

Arctic Memory, by award-winning dancer/choreographer Jody Sperling, is an environmentally conscious creation. Arctic Memory had its genesis in a 43-day polar science mission north of the Arctic Circle in which Ms. Sperling was the first, and to date only choreographer-in-residence aboard a US Coast Guard icebreaker. ITNY Artistic Director, Moira North, commissioned Jody to take this choreography onto the ice with ice dancer Valerie Levine. Valerie wears a cape hand-painted with the image of fissures in Arctic sea ice, the dancer's movements suggesting a time-lapse series of floes moving and melting. Music composed by Brooks Williams & Beo Morales. Having brought the legacy of pioneering dancer, Loie Fuller into the 21st century, she currently focuses on using visual-kinetic narratives to connect choreography and climate science.

When The Atoms embrace and time changes pace, I find my magical powers.” Performed 10 times at the ITNY Home Season and Gala at Sky Rink Chelsea Piers as well as Rockefeller Center, by Liz Schmidt, Sarah France and once by apprentice performer, Sarah Baetge.

In the midst of the COVID-19 crisis, the Nai-Ni Chen Dance Company has established a new dance institute through Zoom, The Bridge. The Institute’s aim is to bring together dancers, choreographers and directors around the world to experience the master teachers of color whose practices are embedded in the community and are focused on advancing the art of dance that transform the personal, environmental and metaphysical spaces. As a virtual dance institute, The Bridge will invite world renowned as well as up and coming dancers and choreographer to come to guest teach the class. Advanced/Intermediate level professional or pre-professional dancers who are looking to explore beyond their own boundaries and looking for new dance experiences are encouraged to participate. The core program is based on Nai-Ni Chen’s Kinetic Spiral, which is a cross-cultural dance vocabulary that integrates the Chinese martial arts philosophy in TaiChi with contemporary dance practices she studied in America. Guest artists will cover a wide range of folk and classical dance styles.

Gotham Early Music Scene (GEMS) inaugurates its Open Gates Project with The Divine Feminine: Centering Women of Color in Early Music, a program of 17th–century works celebrating the animating feminine spirit featuring an ensemble composed of women of color. The performances take place November 12 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church (Manhattan), November 13 at Jamaica Performing Arts Center (Queens), and November 14 at Pregones Theater (Bronx).
Taking its name from the creative force that brings all things into being, The Divine Feminine features sacred and secular works by preeminent 17th–century female composers Chiara Margarita Cozzolani, Barbara Strozzi, and Francesca Caccini, performed by outstanding rising and established American and international artists, with careers encompassing early, chamber, and Classical music, opera, jazz, and musical theater. The program is bookended with works devoted to the Virgin Mary. It opens with Madre, de los primores by New World visionary Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz who is considered the first great Latin American poet and recognized for her influential perspectives on women and scholarship. Pergolesi’s glorious and sublime Stabat Mater closes the program.
Through its Open Gates Project, GEMS is committed to significant efforts to make early music performance opportunities more equitable for artists of color and more accessible to historically excluded communities of color. Over the coming year, the Project will offer a rich variety of music performed by distinguished artists for diverse audiences throughout New York City.

Program Seeks to Raise Awareness About Individuals Who Are
Formerly Incarcerated and Those Impacted by the Justice System
Second Stage Theater (Carole Rothman, President and Artistic Director; Khady Kamara, Executive Director) has announced a series of social justice initiatives centered around the upcoming Broadway production of Lynn Nottage’s play, Clyde’s, directed by Kate Whoriskey. A funny, moving, and inspiring new play, Clyde’s centers around the lives of four formerly incarcerated kitchen staff working at a sandwich shop and looking to reclaim their lives.
With a mission to spotlight the issues faced by returning citizens and those impacted by the justice system, the initiatives include:
- Paid apprenticeship program with Second Stage Theater for justice system-impacted youth
- Weekly talkbacks and discussions hosted by advocates and service providers in the social justice field
- Art exhibit at the Hayes Theater featuring works by people impacted by the justice system
- Final dress rehearsal fundraiser for partnering organizations
- Virtual access to Clyde’s for four national organizations run by and for returning citizens and people who are incarcerated
- Job Fair aimed at connecting justice system-impacted individuals with job opportunities and training
- Subsidized tickets for formerly incarcerated individuals and their families

Art Exhibit
Second Stage will showcase artwork by incarcerated and returning citizens during the run of the show. This will include a virtual exhibit, organized by the Prison Creative Arts Project, which will be available on the web and highlighted at the Hayes during the run of the show through the screens in the theater. They will also work with the Youth Justice Network and Fortune Society to create an in-person exhibition at the theater.
Final Dress Rehearsal Fundraiser
Second Stage will use its final dress rehearsal on November 2 as a fundraiser for its partner groups, Rehabilitation Through the Arts, Fortune Society and League of Women Voters.
CLYDE’S In Prisons
Second Stage is working to find ways to share this production and story with currently incarcerated individuals. As a first step, the Prison Creative Arts Project in Michigan is using CLYDE’S as part of their fall 2021 curriculum. Second Stage is working with the Art for Justice Fund to explore possibilities for a streaming presentation that could be seen by some of their other grantee partners who work with formerly incarcerated communities.
Job Fair
Second Stage will host a Job Fair that will focus on returning citizens, with the aim to connect them with job opportunities, training, and other career resources. Second Stage is working with Youth Justice Network and Hour Children to coordinate with fellow theaters, hotels, restaurants, and other businesses in Times Square that have “fair chance” hiring programs. Second Stage is also seeking partners to provide supportive services to job fair attendees including resume writing and interview prep. This Job Fair is currently scheduled to begin in January 2022.
Subsidized Tickets
In an effort to bring the inspiring story of Clyde’s to those impacted by the justice system, Second Stage is offering complimentary and deeply subsidized tickets via its partners in the Thursday Night talkback series.

The Actors Fund, the national human services organization for everyone in performing arts and entertainment, announced today that the original cast from the Tony Award®-winning Best Musical, Spring Awakening, will reunite for a special, one-night-only benefit concert. The concert will star original cast members Skylar Astin, Gerard Canonico, Lilli Cooper, Jennifer Damiano, Christine Eastbrook, John Gallagher, Jr., Gideon Glick, Jonathan Groff, Robert Hager, Brian Johnson, Lea Michele, Lauren Pritchard, Krysta Rodriguez, Stephen Spinella, Phoebe Strole, Jonny B. Wright, and Remy Zaken. Directed by the original director, Michael Mayer, the concert will take place on Monday, November 15 at 7 pm ET at The Imperial Theatre (249 West 45th Street), home of Ain’t Too Proud – The Life and Times of the Temptations.

the Stage Premiere of
The Art of Fugue
at New York Live Arts
November 11-13, 2021
ZviDance (Zvi Gotheiner, Choreographer and Artistic Director) presents The Art of Fugue, an evening-length, multimedia dance performance collaboration between Zvi Gotheiner, composer Scott Killian, lighting designer Mark London, media designer Joshua Higgason, and eight dancers. Johann Sebastian Bach’s “The Art of Fugue” is a point of departure for Gotheiner's choreographic exploration, which highlights the individual contribution of each of his creative team members. In music, a fugue is a contrapuntal composition in which a short melody is introduced by one voice and successively taken up by others; Gotheiner introduces this compositional structure as a metaphor to portray a non-hierarchical society. Killian integrates electronic original music with Bach, anchoring the work in contemporary culture. Higgason’s live and pre-recorded video projection adds an additional “voice” to the complexity of the canonic composition. The Art of the Fugue will have a live staged premiere on November 11-13, 2021 (Thu and Fri at 7:30pm, Sat at 2pm and 7:30pm) at at New York Live Arts, 219 W 19th St., New York, NY.
