Books: You've Reached Sam and I'm Not Single I Have a Dog
Today we are recommending You've Reached Sam by Dustin Thao. This is a bittersweet novel about facing loss and letting go. When Julie's boyfriend, Sam, dies in an accident, she doesn't want to let go. She calls his phone just to hear his voice and is surprised when he picks up the phone. However, she is not sure how long she will be able to keep calling him, and speaking with him at all may be keeping them both from being able to move on. This book reminds us that there is no one way to deal with grief, but to deal with it at all is important. Thus, although the idea of second chances is appealing, ultimately the heartbreaking conclusion of this book is inevitable.
Today we are recommending I'm Not Single, I Have a Dog by Susan Hartzler. We are always told that there is someone out there for everyone or that everyone has a soulmate, but this may not be true. However, remaining single does not necessarily mean that a person can't have a happy and fulfilling life. This book is one woman's journey to this realization. It is a journey filled with several Mr. Wrongs, some family drama, a few faithful friends, and most of all a couple of canine companions who were always by her side. Whether you have been unlucky in love too or you just love animals, you will really enjoy this book.
Today we are talking about Red Heaven. This film is a documentary about a crew of six strangers living together for a year under conditions meant to replicate what it would be like living on Mars. Although these strangers were not arbitrarily chosen each member chosen has a specific function to fulfill, ultimately they are all humans forced to live together under extraordinary circumstances. However, you don't really learn much about what it's like to live on Mars, and there isn't even a fraction as much human drama as on any reality television show. Perhaps, because the movie was filmed by the crew members themselves, and they didn't want to show themselves in a bad light. Accordingly, it all comes across as kind of bland. However, if you are really interested in what it is like living like an astronaut, you may enjoy it.
Red Heaven is available to rent or own now on Apple TV or Altavod courtesy of Utopia.
