I started this blog with one daughter, kept it up with the other, to spend time together doing something we enjoyed.
However, things change and people evolve. My daughters are older, busier, and not as interested in writing.
From now on this blog will be mostly mom with occasional contributions from my daughters and maybe even my husband.
Nothing else will change. We'll still focus on sharing fun places to go, fun things to do, and more, and we would  still love to hear your views too

Tips for Tuesday- Books: In the Hole & We Did That?

We may have been given complimentary copies of one or more of the books and/or other products mentioned below for review purposes. Any and all opinions expressed here are our own.

Books: In the Hole and We Did That?

Today we are recommending In the Hole by Ben Levin. This book written by an autistic teenager is the story of a family struggling with a sudden change of fortune that leaves them poverty-stricken and homeless. At the center of the story is young  David, although he seems at times a little to good to be true especially for a person of his age and in the situation he is in, he is a good and admirable character doing what he can to help his family survive and thrive and get out of their terrible situation. In fact, there are a lot of good characters in this story that really care about each other and support each other. Accordingly, although the book is not all happy, and David and his family face a lot of hard times, ultimately the story is uplifting and hopeful.

Today we are recommending We Did That? by Sophie Stirling. This really engrossing book is full of interesting trivia about weird inventions, strange superstitions, unusual jobs, and much more from the past and some of what is mentioned in the book is actually true in some places today as well. The book is loaded with useless information that you never learned in your history classes but that is incredibly fun, and sometimes kind of creepy and/or gross, to read about. It was once considered good luck to throw shoes at people.  In some places, it is actually considered fashionable to blacken your teeth rather than to try to whiten them.  At one time, arsenic was quite heavily used in various products. This is only a small tidbit of the unbelievable but true information you will learn from reading this fascinating book.

And that's our view. Tune in tomorrow for Where-To-Go Wednesday.
