The Synergy Theatre Project was founded in the United Kingdom in 2000 with the purpose of changing lives particularly those of prisoners, former prisoners, and at risk youth through theater and theater-related activities.Their shows have been performed in numerous venues including unconventional venues like prisons. Their work has included a number of touring productions for young people. Their 2014 production of Girls Like That is currently available for viewing on YouTube.
Girls Like That is a gut-wrenching show about the way girls treat each other. When an explicit picture of young girl is spread around the school, a group of girls that she has been friends with since early childhood quickly turn against her. This is a very timely show that examines the not only the downside of what it's like to be a girl and the different way they are treated than boys but the darker side of social media as well. It is highly relevant and an excellent jumping off point for discussions of such important topics as they way girls treat one another, the double standard for girls versus boys and the dangers of the internet as it relates to interpersonal realtionships particularly between young people. We highly recommend viewing this show with any teenagers in your life.
